  • http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Wikiversity:Productive_Forking_and_Tailoring_is_Encouraged I would like this linked to from the policy discussion and voting page. If there is a place for discussion of draft policy or guidelines that is adequate as well. Forking and tailoring the material to achieve different purposes is a fairly obvious way to rapidly expand our available materials for various purposes. However, I fear much of the local wiki culture is oriented around deleting material perceived as redundant and eliminating duplication from the database. Hence a discussion of this type of useful activity from the start may be extremely useful. Thanks! Mirwin 23:32, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Old Requests for Import

[edit source]

(Some of these are done, some aren't. If a page is needed, please list it above, under today's date.)

For security reasons, only admins can import pages. You can list here what pages on Meta or Wikibooks you would like to have moved to Wikiversity. An admin will take care of the import as soon as possible and notify you when it is done.

Note: there is a list of pages already imported from Wikibooks that have not yet been marked with {{MovedToWikiversity}}.

Done. It's at School:Engineering. If you want to rename it, go ahead and move, but leave the redirect because that's what the Wikibooks page links to now. -- sebmol ? 12:17, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm importing the subpages too. This might take a while. -- sebmol ? 12:29, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, how about you give me a list of the sub pages you want imported? Or do you want all of them? -- sebmol ? 12:32, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Eventually we want all of them. I have requested admin status so I can help out. Pace yourself and service requests by name first. Thanks! Mirwin 19:08, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure I understand the last part of that sentence. "service requests by name first"? -- sebmol ? 19:09, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for confusion. I meant by specifically requested titles that people list here as urgent or of immediate interest. Such as the one below regarding "proposed productive forking and tailoring". 8) Mirwin 23:35, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Probably should move over the department subpages for School of Engineering as well, particularly Electrical Engineering :) --Rayc 23:08, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How about this

[edit source]

Here is a list of all the schools on wikibooks, just check them off after you've imported them (and put them in the "School:" namespace unless such a school already exists. In thoses cases, I am putting the page from Wikibooks into the "Portal:" namespace and linking it to the existing school page already in "School:" namespace):

Embedded System Engineering now exists. --JWSchmidt 15:19, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Note that one of the purposes of this page is also to prioritize what schools are actively going to be developed right away on Wikiversity, so we can make sure that the content is here instead of somewhere else. Still, thanks for posting this message here. --Robert Horning 05:13, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I just thought that every one of these probably should be moved over at some point, so it would be good to have a list so that people see that XXX is oging to be imported eventually, as to not do extra work. --Rayc 20:52, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If this is an unwritten policy to "guide" or "prioritize" incoming volunteers acttivities it is in serious error. Volunteers will have their own priorities and leaving their previous files in limbo is not likely to shift them from one subject to another productively. A page somewhere noted 37 files had been transwikied to date. This does not make us look like a serious going concern. Mirwin 04:43, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I need the following pages imported and moved to these locations:

If I've set it all up right, the links at Topic:Primary School Mathematics should all turn from red links to blue links. There is no hurry to do this, just let me know. --Whiteknight (Versity) (Books) 17:55, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The pages listed above were imported. I only imported the talk page for the first one. Since it might be possible to turn the original pages at Wikibooks into a book that can be used with additional complementary course material at Wikiversity, I did not put the ugly "MovedToWikiversity" template on the pages at Wikibooks. --JWSchmidt 18:29, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

b:Ten Stupid Things Beginners Do to Mess Up Their Contradance Experience again and b:Lohse, Martin, b:Guide to Success and Fulfillment, b:Happiness. b:Happiness at least I'd be interested to import and merge with resources in development on Happiness which I hope to develop for some upcoming teaching. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 09:15, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
While true that consensus at Wikibooks isn't needed to import here, I think requesting import is premature when there is a possibility that the work might be kept at Wikibooks. Duplicating works without anyone on Wikiversity to develop it isn't good IMO. -- darklama  11:19, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, b:Lohse, Martin, at least, has consensus and the the main contributor is on board with it, so you'll have someone working on it once it's moved here. -- Adrignola 03:01, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to request the following transwiki. The following module did not fit in at wikibooks and may be useful here, but I am not really sure if it falls under wikiversity's scope, and I don't know if a good home for it, so I can't preform my usual level of clean up after a transwiki. Since the page no longer has any active contributors at wikibooks it would be a good idea to look it over and see if it fits into this project. Outcome of this deletion discussion on English Wikipedia in 2010 was to transwiki but I don't think any request was made at the time. Is it in scope for this project? January 17:04, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The request was made but there was no clear follow-up. January, if you are willing to take responsibility for this page, here, I'll import it to allow you to do that. Okay? My import will *not*, then, be a decision that it is in scope. It may need to be moved, refactored, etc. However, Wikiversity is highly inclusive, generally. Glancing at the page, it looks useful to me. I'm going to go ahead and import, just to practice using the tool. --Abd 17:45, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
checkY Done. I did not transwiki the Talk page because it had no real content relevant to the page's usage here. But if the Talk page is desired, let me know. Because I'm banned on Wikipedia, I cannot notify the Wikipedia community of the transwiki (except by email or with block evasion, and with strong reason, which this situation doesn't create). --Abd 18:17, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Katie Harwood

[edit source]

The article w:Katie Harwood on English Wikipedia is up for deletion. The consensus in the deletion discussion is leaning towards regretful delete: the person has put work into developing it as a piece of original research. Before deleting it, it seems like it might be an idea to import it to Wikiversity as providing a space for original research is really more Wikiversity's bailiwick. If the page gets deleted on enwiki, please feel free to contact me (I'm an enWP admin) and I can help in transwiki-ing it over to Wikiversity. I've tagged it with the "Copy to Wikiversity" template. Induced stem cells from Wikipedia

[edit source]

Please let me create a page "Guide for studying Induced stem cells" This page has moved here from Wikipedia as all of the Wikipedia content must be supported by secondary sources, as per w:WP:RS. We need to wait until all cited articles will be discussed in secondary sources. But, the article w:Induced stem cells most fundamentally relies on primary sources, where WP calls for primary reliance on secondaries. At the same time instructional and study guides that make use of original research are allowed on Wikiversity Furthermore, Wikiversity will offer a space not just for hosting research, but also for facilitating research through creating researcher communities. Wikiversity is the place for original research, including primary or secondary research. This includes interpreting primary sources, forming ideas, or taking observations. See Wikiversity:What is Wikiversity?# Wikiversity for researching

This article is a new type of scientific review - quickly replenished dynamic review. Its goal to combine the latest research results with an overall picture of achievements in the topic under discussion. See: w:Editing Induced stem cellsDmitry Dzhagarov (discusscontribs) 07:38, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The page is presently at "articles for deletion" (AfD) so it may change drastically at any time, but we may still want to have the essay. There is no point in waiting for the end of the AfD, as most of the participants are convinced that "transwiki" isn't a possible outcome of any AfD, and can't be persuaded otherwise. Remarkable to see the deletion discussion: w:Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gramophone Company of India Limited Vs. Shanti Films Corporation and others. User:James500, you did not understand the relationship of the WMF and Wikipedia governance, the argument about "not allowed to delete" was incorrect. The Wikipedia community can basically delete whatever it chooses, and when you tell people they are "not allowed" to do what they want to do, they may well do it to spite you.
On the other hand, I've seen closes of "transwiki." Blue Raspberry was correct, however. But it requires more work, not only a deletion (which may be routine with a transwiki close, it is merely delayed), but then a request and an undeletion. I'd have suggested a close with blanking of the page and possibly page protection, of a soft redirect, see w:Wikipedia:Transwiki log. We can see in the discussion Wikipedian ignorance about Wikiversity. That's common. --Abd (discusscontribs) 16:35, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please import this version. I need it for this submission. (This time the history is much shorter. Also, the current version would be OK; I can easily downgrade it as needed.) Boris Tsirelson (discusscontribs) 20:14, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

May I have this one please? The time has come when I need it. It's just Module:Coxeter–Dynkin diagram and doesn't seem to have other dependencies, should be easy.Dc.samizdat (discusscontribs) 02:15, 13 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to import this article with its history as a base for something I'm working on. I'm happy to help and do any manual edits required after import, e.g. if there are template dependencies that Wikiversity doesn't support, but I don't think there are many (and no gnarly ones with deep dependencies of their own). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dc.samizdat (talkcontribs) 13 May 2019 (UTC)

@Dc.samizdat: checkY Done - Please add new entries to the bottom of the page/section and sign your requests. Thanks! -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 13:15, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I've done the manual edits to make Wikipedia: links work, and eliminated unnecessary template dependencies. The following Wikipedia template dependencies remain (all shallow table templates), and I'd like to have them imported as well (rather than eliminate them) if you will.
  • W:Template:H4_family
  • W:Template:Tetrahedral cell tessellations
  • W:Template:Icosahedral vertex figure tessellations
I'll edit their links too after they are imported. Dc.samizdat (discusscontribs) 16:55, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • W:Template:Dodecahedral_tessellations_small

Request to import this wikipage into WikiJournal Preprints/Leptospirosis. The wikipage just updated into Good article status. Would like the journal to reflect the highest quality available Wiki version of the article. Thank you. Cerevisae (discusscontribs) 13:28, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Cerevisae: ☒N Not done Unfortunately, the import is failing. There are too many changes for it to import with history, and there's a database lock preventing it from importing without history. Just copy and paste and include a link in the edit summary when you update the most recent content. Sorry. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 21:36, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No problem Dave Braunschweig. I am unable to update the pre-print because of this one "Error: This action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your action was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the abuse rule which your action matched is: New User Blocked Edit". I tried to request custodian action to unblock me but there is no response to my question. I actually have a complete template ready for the updated version of the pre-print. Do you mind if I ask you to copy and paste for me at one go from my sandbox? I am blocked from editing my own sandbox also. That's why I put it on Wikipedia. The coding is not compatile on wikipedia so you can see some codes here and there.Cerevisae (discusscontribs) 06:19, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Problem resolved. After I made my tenth edit on Wikiversity, I am able to update the pre-print without being blocked. Thanks. Cerevisae (discusscontribs) 06:26, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Cerevisae: Sorry, our abuse filter isn't optimal, but it is blocking more vandalism than false positives. I appreciate your dedication to getting it posted. You should be good to go now. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 14:32, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello everyone,

As this is the very first time I am making such a technical request, I hope I am currently writing in the right place and in an adequate way. If not, please feel utterly free to update this content by correcting any unintentional mistake I might have done.

The subject of the request is as follows:

The English version of the article devoted to the Czech-Austrian doctor and professor Johann Lahodny seems to be facing highly specific criteria on the English-speaking Wikipedia, see → correlated debate.

Given that this is also an investigative work that attempts to provide a scientific synthesis of current research still in progress, may I ask you to please perform a global import of the article to Wikiversity, including the entire Wikipedian history?

Once this operation would be done, the previous content on WP could then simply be subsequently converted into a redirection, as formerly suggested by one of the contributors via diff → 958403287. This would then avoid any duplicate entry.

Thank you so much in advance for your help and your kind assistance.

Yours sincerely,

Euphonie (discusscontribs) 04:58, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@DannyS712: A first trial aimed to update the hyperlinks has just been finalized. However, parenthetical referencing does not seem to adequately interact. What would be the internal syntax suitable to Wikiversity regarding this specific aspect ? Same for the terms ISSN, PMC, PMID and doi, which remain in red. Your help and advice would be particularly helpful. Yours sincerely, — Euphonie (discusscontribs) 11:24, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@DannyS712: The update has been completed and the few former technical hypertextual compatibility issues that were previously mentioned above have now been resolved. Thus, from then on, feel free to upload the article to dedicated section. In addition, can I ask you to please import the page entitled → Template:Infobox medical person so that I can subsequently integrate some focused additional information into the article? Thank you in advance for your help. With kind regards, — Euphonie (discusscontribs) 09:34, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Regular convex 4-polytopes

[edit source]

Please import the above template from Wikipedia, replacing the previous Wikiversity:Template of that name. I created this template at Wikiversity, and after a period of development copied it to Wikipedia, where the current version now resides. Wikiversity:Regular convex 4-polytopes is the original outdated version of this template, retained only for its development history. If there is a way to ensure that Wikiversity articles will always use the Wikipedia version of this template, without having to reimport it to Wikiversity after each edit to the Wikipedia version, that would be appropriate. (Is there a way to refer directly to a Wikipedia template in a Wikiversity article? I notice that {{W:Template:Regular convex 4-polytopes}} doesn't work.) Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dc.samizdat (talkcontribs) 2 December 2021 (UTC)

@Dc.samizdat: I've tried two different ways to import this but I don't know if it was successful. Your attempts to move and edit the local template have made a clean import very difficult. Going forward, leave it alone locally and just request the import. The import overwrites and updates with more recent changes. If the changes here are more recent, you'll need to update it manually. Since the work is yours anyway, there's no particular licensing benefit to importing. You can just copy and paste.
Regarding the use of templates from other wikis, this has been a requested feature for many years. It would most likely be a reference to Commons (similar to File:), but isn't currently possible. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 23:20, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, sorry for screwing it up. I've copy-and-pasted the current version from Wikipedia and will keep it updated here that way in future. Dc.samizdat (discusscontribs) 23:53, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
