News and announcements
[edit]- There were 127 new articles in January 2011.
- There were 132 new articles in February 2011.
- There were 178 new articles in March 2011.
Announcements
[edit]- A lengthy request for comment was started regarding grouping of video game consoles (i.e. by "generation").
- The 2011 Game Developers' Conference announced a list of games that will be covered, which include many classic games (see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games/Archive 86#Heads up for classic game articles for more information). The presentations were later posted on the GDC's website.
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Fictional characters was created in January 2011, in which many of WP:VG's articles fall under.
- Discussion regarding guidelines for image names has occurred.
- Extensive discussion has occurred as to whether or not video gaming magazines should automatically be considered reliable sources.
- 16 WP:VG members have been awarded the Triple Crown for contributing to one DYK, one GA, and one FA or FL. The project as a whole was also awarded a special edition triple crown (pictured) for the members' contributions to video game-related articles.
- A requests for comment was underway as to whether or not OnLive should be considered a computing platform.
- Wikipedia:Notability (video games) has been drafted and proposed as a guideline.
- The project's guidelines concerning the titles of video games of Japanese origin have been in mediation. Editors are encouraged to offer feedback on the proposed changes.
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Music Video Games was nominated for deletion (deletion discussion). Discussion is still ongoing as of time of publication of this newsletter.
