Question from Normstahlie (13:50, 10 July 2024)

[edit]

What does "rescuing a source" mean? --Normstahlie (talk) 13:50, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Normstahlie, usually I see that edit summary applied when someone has provided an archived version of a website in order to prevent link rot. I think there is a bot which goes around automatically linking archived versions of websites. If that doesn't seem like the right answer for your question, feel free to link me to wherever you saw it and maybe I can give a better explanation. Happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 23:29, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi ARoseWolf, could you please explain how to create citation link --SravanthiSruthi (talk) 12:31, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello SravanthiSruthi, I'm not ARoseWolf but I am happy to help. There are some instructions here on how to add citations. Does that page answer your question? ~ L 🌸 (talk) 18:09, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize to SravanthiSruthi and to you, L. This may be a new editor that was assigned to me before I abruptly resigned as a mentor and so has now been reassigned to you. I know they will be in good hands. Good luck to both of you on your editing adventure and I appreciate your contributions and the effort it takes to be a mentor. It is not lost on me. --ARoseWolf 19:23, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

One of my articles automatically placed a hyperlink for a person I was writing. Instead of putting the hyperlink for "valorant' Life it put the "starcraft' Life. Do you know how I can fix this issue? --Farrowways (talk) 01:10, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Alawode Anuoluwapo Oluwafunmilayo (07:42, 3 September 2024)

[edit]

Pls how can I lock my post so that Noone can edit it --Alawode Anuoluwapo Oluwafunmilayo (talk) 07:42, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Alawode Anuoluwapo Oluwafunmilayo, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a collaboratively-written encyclopedia, so there isn't really a way to prevent others from editing something: the whole goal is to write together. If you make a user page for yourself here, people will typically avoid editing it out of politeness. If there is an existing article that is getting vandalised a lot, you can request that the page be "protected" to limit who can edit it (though not so no one can edit). ~ L 🌸 (talk) 17:44, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

How do you get your information about motorcycle clubs and what are you doing to check the information you poblish? --KABOTATHEHUN (talk) 21:17, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello KABOTATHEHUN, and welcome to Wikipedia. I personally don’t know anything about motorcycle clubs, but if you’re asking how Wikipedia articles get written on the topic, volunteers like you click the “edit” button and do their best to include accurate information based on what is published in reliable sources. I am here to answer questions about editing Wikipedia, so if you’ve noticed an error and aren’t sure how to correct it, I’m happy to help if I can. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 21:47, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Green's "Around the World in 31 Days" GA Editathon – October 2024

[edit]

Hello LEvalyn:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

Question from SuvGh (04:24, 2 October 2024)

[edit]

Hey in an article I added some info about JC bose and his discovery of radio signals before Marconi. But 2 users keep deleting that part even though I added 5 sources. What should I do?Can I take actions? --SuvGh (talk) 04:24, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello SuvGh, thanks for reaching out for help here. It looks like, shortly after your question to me, you received a response on the talk page, which captures the same advice I would have given you. More broadly, if you find that you are not reaching consensus through back-and-forth editing of an article, making a new topic on the Talk page is the best next step. If you think there is still a change that ought to be made at Guglielmo Marconi, you could try suggesting it on the Talk page and see if the editors there can assist with making it fit with the writing style, referencing, etc of a wikipedia article. I am happy to answer additional questions you may have, or for a faster reply you can also ask the mentors at the Teahouse. Happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 22:36, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator Elections: Call for Candidates

[edit]
Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates

The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/Call for candidates.

Here is the schedule:

  • October 8–14 - Candidate sign-up (we are here)
  • October 22–24 - Discussion phase
  • October 25–31 - SecurePoll voting phase

Please note the following:

  • The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
  • Prospective candidates are advised to become familar with the community's expectations of adminstrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
  • The process will have a one week call for candidates phase, a one week pause to set up SecurePoll, a three-day period of public discussion, followed by 7 days of no public discussion and a private vote using SecurePoll.
  • The outcomes of this process are identical to making requests for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA or administrator elections.
  • Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.

Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. A separate user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.

To avoid sending too many messages, this will be the last mass message sent about administrator elections. If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

You're receiving this message because you signed up for the mailing list. To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself from the list.

Question from AmritAtman (16:50, 8 October 2024)

[edit]

Hello! I just want to edit one specific article, which is one-sided (and I have legal documentation to that effect), and I want to create a page as well. Do I need to build up my experience? Can I go right into that edit?

Thank you,

Amrit Atman --AmritAtman (talk) 16:50, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AmritAtman, welcome to Wikipedia. In principle, Wikipedia is the encyclopedia anyone can edit, and only a few articles will prevent inexperienced articles from working on them. But your question here raises some red flags for me, so I don't want to encourage you too strongly without knowing more. It's extremely unusual for legal documentation to be relevant to writing a Wikipedia article, because Wikipedia is a tertiary source which just tries to summarize what has been published elsewhere (eg in newspapers, books, and scholarly research). What is the article that concerns you, and what seems to be the problem with it? ~ L 🌸 (talk) 02:55, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
