Hey Husond!

[edit]

Hey long time no see, I was going to ask you a favor, the following article Steve Stivers is going to get a lot of vandalism now that he won the primary and is an official candidate for congress, I was going to see if it is possible to have it semi protected for the next 6 months until election day, if you cant do it thats cool, i just thought it might be a good idea to ask.--Joebengo (talk) 00:08, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Could you check on this article? Recent edits by Kalt wie Stahl[1] are rather POV backed by a non-English, unpublished website. Thanks. --Kansas Bear (talk) 17:05, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey!

[edit]

Nice to see you back. You probably still recognize me (from my old RfA); I'm still active like I was. I just wanted to pop in here and say hello and welcome back! Have a good day/night/week. Schfifty3 03:53, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate the help. Also, thanks for pitching in at recent changes. We need all the help we can get. See ya 'round Tiderolls 14:52, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

IP block

[edit]

You recently blocked User talk:174.91.217.32 for vandalism. I noticed this IP was specifically targeting User:Paul Erik. I'm suspecting sockpuppetry. Thoughts? --N419BH (talk) 00:51, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea; I do not have enough experience to make that call. I just find it extremely odd that a brand new IP is specifically targeting a 20,000+ contribution user by name. I've left a message at Paul Erik's talk page as he'll probably know more. Other than that I don't really know what to do. --N419BH (talk) 01:04, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The following is from Paul Erik's talk page. I'd say we can just drop it for now. --N419BH (talk) 01:17, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"Thanks for helping with the cleanup. It's an anon who is apparently mad at me for reverting his joke edits to the Joseph Cirincione article. I'm just ignoring for the time being. But he seems to be unaware that unregistered editing from an IP address is traceable; his address is in Montreal, using Bell Sympatico internet. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 01:14, 10 May 2010 (UTC)"
Okay, thanks for clarifying. I'll let you know if I have any further questions. Advice and input is always appreciated. --N419BH (talk) 01:55, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Roachies

[edit]

Huh, your hand is sort of famous there, thanks to all the roachies... --Illythr (talk) 16:38, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You yourself - not yet. Your hand, however...
A question that's been bugging me for awhile - how did you manage to keep them from falling off or crawling up your sleeve? --Illythr (talk) 22:42, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I've made the same mistake, apparently - anything as agile as the "regular" roachies would swiftly fall off on their own in order to be able to further pursue their eek-provoking activities... --Illythr (talk) 20:34, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bronx/The Bronx

[edit]

Hello, you participated in a discussion last spring that resulted in renaming The Bronx as Bronx. There is now a proposal to open a new Request for Comments on restoring the original name. If you have comments about the timing of such a proposal, please make them soon at Talk:Bronx#Query: when do we consider this? because, unless a there's a consensus against such a Request for Comments, it will begin early this week. Thanks. —— Shakescene (talk) 21:47, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've listed Portal:Portugal for Featured portal review as I don't think it meets current standards because it's not kept up to date - in fact, you said much the same in January 2007! If you can join in the discussion or help to improve the portal, that'd be fantastic. I've left a note at WP:Portugal but I don't know how active that is; if there are other people you think I should tell, please let me know. Hi Husond, I posted recently to the BLP noticeboard with a problem about a BLP that relies on Portuguese sources, and Slp1 suggested I contact you. It's Antonio Petrus Kalil, an article about a Brazilian operator of an illegal lottery. I noticed it after a couple of requests for protection at RfPP. Someone apparently from Kalil's family is objecting to the content.

There were some very serious allegations in the article -- the worst have been removed, but we're still having difficulty making sure (a) that the article doesn't go beyond the sources, and (b) that the sources are high quality. If you have any time to look that would be very helpful. There's a section on talk that starts at Talk:Antonio_Petrus_Kalil#BLP_concern, though it's quite long to read. There's a suggestion that we go back to a stub at Talk:Antonio_Petrus_Kalil#Suggestion, and a list of the sources the article currently uses at Talk:Antonio_Petrus_Kalil#Current sources.

It would be helpful to have an uninvolved Portuguese speaker overseeing what's going on, even if it's just to comment occasionally. But don't worry if you're too busy to take a look. I'll completely understand, so feel free to ignore the request. Cheers, SlimVirgin talk|contribs 22:06, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

[edit]

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Extended confirmed protection

[edit]

Hello, Husond. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:48, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 09:04, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

[edit]

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

[edit]

Hi Husond.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

regarding this message (please see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:193.137.135.2), i was not the person to edit wrongly in Olivenza. If you check the IP's list of contributions, you will find i only started editing there on 8 November of this year, which is the IP from where i edit whilst at work.

At home, my address is this one (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/85.242.133.151). Of course, i understand your concern, it could very well have been me to perform that edit. Attentively, happy editing and apologies for any inconvenience --85.242.133.151 (talk) 15:42, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That message was 9 years ago!! Húsönd 21:43, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

(editing from work)Oddly enough, I was only notified of it (through the "you have a new message" banner in orange) in this year (2016) and month (November). Thus, I immediately responded to avoid any misunderstandings. Hope this clears things out. --193.137.135.2 (talk) 14:41, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Just thought of this now: or maybe i was reading the message for the 193 IP whilst at home (thus, the 85 IP), and the latter received a message and i thought it was a notification of the former. Most likely my bad in understanding. --85.242.133.151 (talk) 15:41, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation from Wikimedia Portugal

[edit]

(English below)

Agradecemos desde já!

Hi! Wikimedia Portugal is the Portuguese chapter of Wikimedia, founded in 2009 and recognized by the Wikimedia Foundation. Our mission is to contribute to the general dissemination of knowledge and culture through the incentive to the collection and creation of content without restrictions on use, modification and distribution, and promote their difusion; we promote and support the Wikimedia Foundation projects, among which Wikipedia, with emphasis on projects in Portuguese and Mirandese.

We would like however to count on the support of (and in turn ourselves support) all volunteers that are citizens, resident, or simply interested in Portugal. Despite being founded in 2009, the chapter has gone through a long period of inactivity that we are trying to overcome. We have sent you this message to invite you, if you are interested, to enroll as associate to the chapter, demonstrate your support to the existence of a chapter in Portugal, and get involved in the discussion of future activities by registering in the mailing list. Recentely, the Wikimedia Affiliations Committee suspended support to Wikimedia Portugal pending, among other things, the support from the community of portuguese editors.

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Hi, Husond! I am working on this article, which has been heavily edited for years by the subject, who has added what looks like every mention he's ever received, including photo credits and announcements of exhibitions. I am having a hard time assessing sources and was hoping to find someone who can help me go through and throw out the ones that are blogs, photo credits, and otherwise not useful. Some are in Spanish, some I think in Galician, and I'm finding I'm having trouble even recognizing the blogs, in particular, even when I run them through a translator. Like, do you know whether 'microsiervos' means it's a blog? At any rate, if you have any time to provide assistance, I'd surely appreciate it. I'm also having trouble determining whether an online source is a photography magazine, or just the announcement of an exhibition. It's a pretty overwhelming task. I think this guy is notable, but honestly it's almost hard to be sure because of the sheer number of references. --valereee (talk) 12:49, 28 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

[edit]

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Crazy message

[edit]

Today I received my first message via wikipedia, and it is signed by yourself.

It accuses me of making some type of prohibited edit to a wikipedia page in 2006. Please know that I have never made any edits to any wikipedia page. I assume that the message was sent in error, maybe to my IP address? If so, I wasn't living in this time zone during 2006 so if I inherited some nefarious IP I suggest that you contact my provider rather than myself.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.227.68.136 (talk) 16:25, 11 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I notice that you've asked for "teh bit" back, although you're an accomplished countervandal for which you don't need the mop. I am quite un-moppable (because I anger many of the unblockables) so I just can't understand the need for a status symbol on wiki when it's almost always in violation of WP:HATSHOP. Most of my work now on wiki is editor retention, with projects like WP:MIA and WP:BDC so I welcome contributors to return to editing. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Remote (company), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Nomination of Remote (company) for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Remote (company) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Remote (company) until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article.

Chris Troutman (talk) 16:38, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Husond: I strongly suspect the AFD will end up as a Delete. As you know, I feel the sources *should* clearly be sufficient, though I respect some people may judge that differently even if proceeding wholly impartially. Some of the other reasons that have popped up for deletion are pretty ridiculous (e.g., now, that "global provider of payroll services" is marketing gobledygook). Husond, while you may feel the pressure to declare absence (I presume) of a CoI is inappropriate, it is a reflection of how Wikipedia has developed in recent years. For better or worse, the threat of the evil hand of marketing -- for companies in particular, for some reason -- is viewed as sufficiently threatening that if there's even a whiff of a potential CoI, the whole article will come under preternatural scrutiny. So - if you'd like to continue writing articles, please next time just be prepared to confirm you have no CoI if asked. And just not write it if you do have a CoI. This is all meant not to pile on or moralize, more to express solidarity that I don't think this article is being treated fairly here. But also to encourage you to adapt more to current mores if you stick around! Martinp (talk) 02:17, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Martinp. Yes, it's likely going to be deleted and I have no qualms about that, as legitimate concerns about the sources/notability seem to be piling up. Maybe it was premature of me to have created this article before some more diverse content about the company had been published, as most of the existing one is linked to the round of funding. I still think the company is notable and we should have an article on it, but maybe it's not the right time yet. Inevitably we will have to have one as the company grows and its coverage in the press increases - but when that happens I'm sure I won't be the one creating it! Very bruising and time wasting this whole COI episode, it reminded me of the unpleasant side of Wikipedia. But I'm not demotivated, I'll just focus my attention elsewhere. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:35, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Spacehive logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:38, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
