Major cryptocurrency firm article corrections and important updates

[edit]

Hi, I see you’re a participant in the WikiProject for Finance and Investment and are currently active on Wikipedia. There are some corrections and important updates needed in the article about Digital Currency Group, one of the major players in cryptocurrency. I’ve started a discussion here. I have a COI, as fully disclosed on the page. Given the nature of the topic I thought this might be of interest to you as a participant in the Finance and Investment WikiProject. Thanks very much for your time. CertifiedTurtle (talk) 23:11, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, CertifiedTurtle. Thank you for letting me know about this. I will go have a look at the discussion today or tomorrow.--FeralOink (talk) 05:50, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Digital Currency Group Proposal Implementation?

[edit]

Hi FeralOink, sorry to bother you on your Talk page but I’ve been trying to reach you about the proposal you weighed in on. Since the discussion about the proposal appears to have concluded, I was wondering if you would be able to implement the changes I suggested? Please let me know if I can be of any help, within the parameters of my COI. CertifiedTurtle (talk) 16:45, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Small Feral Pig

[edit]

Are you sure that the photo on your page is not a Javelina? 2601:681:C00:CCF0:8080:C1DB:55E5:C42D (talk) 18:48, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes! It IS a Javelina! Wow, you knew. Thank you so much for your comment! Given that you're an IP user with no talk page, I do hope you have an opportunity to read this reply.
I love pigs and javelinas. The latter might not quite be pigs, taxonomically; however, they are known as "New World Pigs". That's close enough, I think. Javelinas go feral-ing around near where I live, without causing harm or fuss. Bigger feral pigs, more boar-like ones, have a worse reputation. The boars live a few states to my east.--FeralOink (talk) 19:36, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I love sweet capys. They seem so docile and nice, but there are also the jumpy, skittery, hard-livin' jungle capys. I love them all. Equinox 19:00, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Eileen Collins

[edit]

Here's our problem with this article: at FAC the reviewers thought that it relies too heavily on one biography, and wanted more general statements about the Air Force or NASA programs, and especially about distinctions/firsts... augmented by other sources. (Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Eileen Collins/archive1#Source review) Hawkeye7 (discuss) 23:02, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hawkeye7, yes, I noticed the dependence on a single source. Thank you for taking the time to explain the background re FAC to me, here, rather than reverting me a second time! Now I understand your motivation. I concur. BTW, I added another source and am about to add a second one now, along with some content about what she did after her retirement. When possible, I will try to rely on other sources instead of that biography!--FeralOink (talk) 23:25, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't going to revert you a second time... if you can dig up some more sources for the "Astronaut" section, we can co-nominate the article for Featured. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 23:24, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

USAF organizational actions

[edit]

A while ago, you edited Sixteenth Air Force to replace "inactivate" with "deactivate." Inactivate is the proper term for organizational actions for USAF units. See the glossary of terms in Maurer, Maurer, ed. (1982) [1969]. Combat Squadrons of the Air Force, World War II (PDF) (reprint ed.). Washington, DC: Office of Air Force History. ISBN 0-405-12194-6. LCCN 70605402. OCLC 72556. Retrieved December 17, 2016. or Ravenstein, Charles A. (1984). Air Force Combat Wings, Lineage & Honors Histories 1947-1977 (PDF). Washington, DC: Office of Air Force History. ISBN 0-912799-12-9. Retrieved December 17, 2016. Lineagegeek (talk) 12:15, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lineagegeek, thank you for letting me know, and sourcing it. There was at least one other word like that, i.e. a proper term that had the appearance of being ungrammatical because I wasn't adequately informed of the military use / context. I tried to go back and repair the damage I had done. I didn't even know about this one. I'm sorry! The military articles are NOT easy to edit in general! I learned my lesson that day, as I spent hours realizing that things like air forces get retired, then resurrected, moved to other home locations etc.!--FeralOink (talk) 16:47, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't call it "damage", even semi-official sources do the same thing. Lineagegeek (talk) 19:54, 16 September 2023 (UTC) BTW, (in view of your username) are you aware of a tactic used by the Luftwaffe during World War II, called Wilde Sau? Lineagegeek (talk) 19:58, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wow, thank you so much for sharing that with me! I love piggies, boars, oinkers of all kinds. That was a clever name AND tactic by the Luftwaffe in WWII. Too bad it wasn't more effective, but it was worth a try. I feel guilty a bit for saying that, but Wilde Sau and the Desert Fox were kind of awesome.--FeralOink (talk) 14:17, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Clearview AI

[edit]

Hello I saw you have recently commented on the Clearview AI page. I just did a major rework and I am hoping you to get your input? Czarking0 (talk) 20:24, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for stopping by, Czarking0. I'm glad to hear that you did some work on the article. I had made some superficial improvements but realized it needed a major re-write, or better yet, rework as you phrased it. Clearview is distinct as it has a high degree of accuracy per NIST, unlike some alternatives in that space, e.g. DataWorks+ (if I got the name right). I'll mosey over right now and have a look at your work! I'll leave feedback on the article talk page, in a new section or a relevant existing section if any.--FeralOink (talk) 17:07, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi FeralOink, I wanted to let you know I started a GA nom for Clearview which has quite a bit of progress on it now. I think it is close to decision time, but I thought you might want to weigh in with more feedback? Czarking0 (talk) 04:11, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Czarking0. I was feeling guilty about not doing more with Clearview AI. I used to read Charles Johnson's substack, so I wasn't so eager to edit the Clearview article. I checked the edit history and see how many edits you've done. Wow! I'll take a look and give you feedback. You're a statistics and probability person just like me! (Your userboxes.) I noticed the DOI link to a scholarly journal article that includes this in its title: "Competitive Politics of Offence-Taking". I lol'ed! I also saw a note to self about the New START treaty. From what I can tell, the answer is no, neither side has done any of their 18 annual inspections as of 30 June 2022, see New START at a Glance at the bottom of the page. The most recent status update as of 1 June 2023:
"The U.S. is refraining from facilitating New START Treaty inspection activities on U.S. territory, specifically by revoking existing visas issued to Russian New START Treaty inspectors and aircrew members, denying pending applications for such visas, and by revoking the standing diplomatic clearance numbers issued for Russian New START Treaty inspection airplanes. . . .Russia chose not to exercise its right to conduct inspection activities and has also denied the United States its right under the treaty to conduct inspection activities since August 2022, when it refused to accept a U.S. inspection. Russia has not notified the United States of any intent to send a Russian inspection team to the United States since February 25, 2020."
It is scary.--FeralOink (talk) 18:53, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

November Articles for creation backlog drive

[edit]

Hello FeralOink:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 1300 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

For future reference

[edit]

If you see people posting personal information like at Talk:David Barnea, the appropriate thing to do is revert the edits and then contact Wikipedia:Oversight to make sure the information is hidden from public view (I've already done that here). Posting to WP:AIV just makes the information more visible (and no blocks are necessary especially since it's been a few months since the IPs have edited). Galobtter (talk) 17:16, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Galobtter, ah okay! I didn't know what to do. I wanted to get rid of that information, so that it wasn't publicly visible, ASAP. The article itself is highly-viewed. It didn't occur to me that posting to WP:AIV would have the unintentional effect of alerting others (internally, so to speak), en masse, about the existence of the information! I have never used WP:Oversight before as I am weary of being chided for making a fuss over something improperly, despite having been an editor for almost 12 years. Thank you for being helpful and doing so in a friendly manner!--FeralOink (talk) 18:08, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Steven Tananbaum

[edit]

Hi FeralOink, I'm working on updates for Steven Tananbaum, hedge fund manager and chief investment officer at GoldenTree Asset Management. I noticed that you are a member of WikiProject Finance & Investment and WikiProject Economics, and thought you may be interested in reviewing my edit request on Steven Tananbaum's talk page. I'd be glad to discuss any of the points and appreciate your assistance. Thank you, Alexandra at L Strategies (talk) 15:27, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Alexandra, I'll be glad to review your edit request. Given your user name, I gather that you are a COI editor. That's not a problem. I don't see any indication that you are a COI editor on your talk page, but let's continue discussion on the article talk page.--FeralOink (talk) 15:34, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am a COI editor and have disclosed here and on Steven Tananbaum’s talk page. I look forward to your input at the article talk page. Thank you! Alexandra at L Strategies (talk) 16:38, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, FeralOink. Thank you for working on Steven Tananbaum's page. At the time, you mentioned that you had made some clean-up edits to the article and that you'd look at the remaining requests on the talk page in the next few days. If you have time to review, I would really appreciate your input and assistance with implementing the edits. Thanks so much, Alexandra at L Strategies (talk) 22:50, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Alexandra at L Strategies. I will have another go at it in the next few days. Thank you for reminding me! I'll ping you when I'm done.--FeralOink (talk) 21:18, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi FeralOink, thank you very much for taking the time to review and implement my requests. I am working on further suggestions for the page and plan to post a new edit request on the article talk page soon. I hope to be back in touch then. Thanks again! Alexandra at L Strategies (talk) 16:04, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi FeralOink, thanks again for your previous work on Steven Tananbaum. I recently posted some additional requests on the article talk page. I'd greatly appreciate your input on my suggestions and assistance with the edits. Thanks so much, Alexandra at L Strategies (talk) 10:08, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Alexandra. Have we now concluded all edits for the Golden Tree WP article? Let me know if there is anything further, as I think everything has been addressed--FeralOink (talk) 11:36, 8 April 2024 (UTC).[reply]

OTJQ

[edit]

I thank you for your thanks lol. It’s the first time anyone has ever thanked me for trying to accurately label anti-semitism there. That article is actually the reason I refused to edit Wikipedia for years, due to the bullying I received. I would suggest you’re potentially putting yourself in a precarious position editing it. That article is hated by Left-leaning editors. People will argue all day & night about whether it’s really anti semitism. I provided dozens of additional sources and my edits were still reverted, removing hundreds of lines of sourced wording Manboobies (talk) 16:28, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ping !!!!. Thank *you* so much for stopping by and saying that. I didn't know how to respond on your talk page because I didn't want to disturb the nice red bell. I feel so proud and happy whenever I read your message. Those editors, the ones you mention, they are so mean. And they dominate Wikipedia. There are three articles of the sort you mentioned: TJQ, OTJQ, and that older and also horrid one by Martin Luther. OTJQ is most definitely anti semitism. I keep returning to it, seeing it modified, to make it seem less so, then sparring with editors to restore my prior edits. I'm glad you're here, and that I'm not the only one to recognize this. I'm so sorry to read what happened to you. Thank you for everything you do. FeralOink (talk) 09:52, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

GoldenTree Asset Management

[edit]

Hi FeralOink, as discussed, just a friendly reminder to take a look at the sources I replaced at GoldenTree Asset Management and remove the tag if they are sufficient. Thanks, Alexandra at L Strategies (talk) 17:12, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Adding an Interview that appears in a book.

[edit]

Hello FeralOink, Thank you again for stepping in two years ago regarding my wiki page. I would like to take you up on your offer to "make further changes to the BLP of Tony Vitale as he moves on to his next accomplishment; please do not hesitate to ask me."

I recently did an interview for a book that has now been published. I would like to add some excerpts from that interview to my page.

Also, there were two more articles that were published about me. What is the best way to add info from those articles to my Wiki page?

Thanks again for your help. Tvdowntown (talk) 21:19, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Tvdowntown! I'm glad to help, and left a message on your user talk page. We will discuss further on the BLP talk page as you requested.--FeralOink (talk) 18:08, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tvdowntown, I am trying to find the articles and the interview that you mentioned. Can you provide me with URLs? Also, I found an obituary for a Tony Vitale when I was looking, which I hope is not for you. Let's continue our discussion on the Tony Vitale article talk page please.
