Hey. Your have some wrong information you keep on posting on wikipedia. Are you a native Emirate citizen? I don’t if you are genuinely misinformed or someone is paying you to do that or what exactly but what you are writing is very biased and contains mistakes and the claims you make are very and is offending us here in Oman to have a neighbouring country that didn’t exist before its independence 1971. (Which before that was called the coast of Oman.) just claim our heritage and history and subscribe it to themselves? I think someone is paying you to do this where do yiu get your sources from if i may ask? Alexandermcnabb, this user has accused me of being a POV pusher, stonewaller, performing stunts, BS content etc.. and I have ignored them all. I honestly am too busy in real world to deal with some keyboard commando in Wikipedia. It took two admins to revert his copyright edits. He will continue to game the system. I have linked him the Wikipedia:Advice for hotheads page and advised him to take a wiki-break, but he continues to have a very bad case of WP:IDIDNTHEARTHAT. I wouldn't waste time on him. Murdoch University Dubai

[edit]

Hi - Im the GM for Murdoch Dubai and im trying to update our Wiki page as it was not accurate and not a complete picture. Why is this causing so much discussion? Markbrownnavitas (talk) 09:42, 13 October 2020 (UTC) Markbrownnavitas[reply]

Firstly, User:Markbrownnavitas you're the LAST person who should be editing that page. You're adding content that is not reflective of a Neutral Point of View (WP:NPOV is the policy on this) and not sourced, either. You'd be best to leave the page as it is - it's already been marked for deletion and is in danger of being deleted entirely, let alone your efforts to add content that just detract from the page's value. I suggest you revert yourself and leave editing the page to editors who do not have a conflict of interest (WP:COI) as you do. Right now you're breaking lots of rules on Wikipedia and it's not helpful to anyone. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 09:47, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

[edit]
New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello Alexandermcnabb,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 803 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 852 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

AFC article

[edit]

Hiya - My attention wandered and I accepted the draft article on Marudamalai (or variant - tbe) without checking the ins and outs of its history so did not spot until after accepting it that you had only just draftified it, so apologies for that. I do think however that although the sourcing is far from brilliant it's enough to get the place past WP:GEOLAND (even in its reduced post-deletionist state - which perhaps I ought not to say, as I don't know where you are on the inclusion-deletion spectrum). Anyway, rather than sending it back to draft again, do you think you could live with the article as a stub (perhaps minus the full details of the bus timetable)? Ingratis (talk) 08:58, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ingratis: No biggie - I was concerned that there are three spellings of the place name in the article and that the articles on the larger geography (Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu etc) do not even mention the place. As a suburb of Coimbatore, it sort of even struggles with the relatively low bar WP:GEOLAND sets, IMHO, and I honestly think for now it was better as a draft or perhaps even a redirect to Coimbatore until such time as someone sources notability. The temple there seems more notable than the place itself! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 10:32, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm wishing I'd left it alone now! I tried to find more refs (in English only) but haven't had much success. You're right about the temple. Marudhamalai etc is actually the name of the hills the temple stands on, and any settlement there is secondary, so I've redirected it to the temple article until such time as someone can strengthen it, and hope you will not find this unacceptable. A redirect to Coimbatore, as you suggest, would obviously be possible, but Coimbatore is clearly a v big place and its article doesn't attempt to list all its constituent parts: far larger places than this are omitted. Ingratis (talk) 03:03, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ingratis: That redirect didn't work, but that's probably the best solution for now I agree! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 04:03, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I got sidetracked before I could get to it but will tackle it first thing when I'm next on. Ingratis (talk) 08:57, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Edits for Sultan Al Jaber

[edit]

Hi, I work for ADNOC and I recently posted an edit request on Talk:Sultan Al Jaber, who is the head of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. I noticed that you are a member of Wikipedia:WikiProject United Arab Emirates/Members, so I thought you would have an interest in implementing the edit request, which contains straightforward edits, mostly updating the article. Thanks so much. CB at ADNOC (talk) 11:21, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya CB at ADNOC - see the article talk page - I made most but not all of the changes you requested. Happy to chat about that, but have left you a little guidance on the talk page of the article. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 12:26, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Thanks so much for implementing the bulk of my edit request. I am quite happy with the way you chose to leave in or take out information. Changing the subject, I have a question for you: for the sake of trimming the boards section a bit, which seems a bit bloated to me, I am wondering if you think it is a good idea to remove all the board seats he no longer sits on? If you think it is a good idea then please go ahead and take out whatever he was on, but is no longer. Thanks again. CB at ADNOC (talk) 10:37, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @CB at ADNOC: - if you would like to confirm which board seats he currently holds I'll try and update the article. It would be best if they were supported by news stories or other sources confirming where he sits/no longer sits, as per WP:OR. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 10:44, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again. Unfortunately, I do not have sources that clearly mention each board position that he no longer sits on. (As far as the boards he still sits on, those are already confirmed by sources found on the page.) Since the article already says that he 'was' the chairman, or 'was' on the board, I would just like, for the sake of cleaning up this section of the article, all those board positions that he no longer sits on, removed. In other words, please remove the entire last paragraph of the Board positions section, except for the first sentence. It would make sense to attach that sentence to the end of the second paragraph.
I do have two sources as follows:
Thanks for your help. CB at ADNOC (talk) 12:01, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hiya @CB at ADNOC:. Updated - it makes no sense to remove his former positions (particularly as they are well sourced and factual), but I have tidied up and clarified those already sourced in the article. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 12:25, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there, thank you for your edits. Even though I would have preferred to have the old boards removed, I understand your position and accept your decision. All the best. CB at ADNOC (talk) 11:04, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sultan Al Jaber climate section request

[edit]

Hi. This is a gentle nudge to ask you to please have a look at my most recent edit request at Talk:Sultan_Al_Jaber#Climate change and honors sections. The request is for a few straightforward edits that I believe you will agree add value to his article. While you are there, could you also look at the revert of a direct edit I made, changing the Infobox:Person to Infobox:Officeholder. I believe that Officeholder is a better choice, and that my change was reverted back to Infobox:person without a good reason. Thanks so much for your consideration. Jumeirah

[edit]

Hello, even though it is written in the source, Dibai, it is clearly a spelling mistake and it is fair to correct it. Mario1952 (talk) 14:54, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mario1952 - the discussion belongs on the article talk page, not here, but actually no, it's not a spelling mistake. It's an archaic usage and, in a quote from the source, it's appropriate. The British called Dubai all sorts of things - Dubayy, Dobei, Dibai, whatever depending on the writer and the whim - because historically there wasn't a 'standard' transliteration (see my user page!). It's a quote from the source and that's what the source says. It's also an incredibly small niggle to be worrying over - there are bigger issues out there to fix on WP! Thanks

[edit]

My first thoughts were that suggesting a geographical stub article that was referenced to a reasonally reliable source on a geographical feature that is of interest to some on this planet outside of Japan needed to go to draft was a bit extreme when there are multiple articles on significant geographical features if you run into them in a ship in a storm, that have no references that I am aware of. These are noted as class 5 articles, but have for the reason that geography context is important in a encyclopaedia, been left for up to decades, as the facts are actually easy to verify. The correct reason for asking for a rewrite is found on the Japanese Wikipedia and I apologise for not checking on this basic reference for Japanese geographical matters which has a fuller article not available to those with poor Japanese. Deletion of Transportify Page

[edit]

Hi. My interest here in Wikipedia encyclopedia is to improve logistics content for the Philippine readers. I have contributed/edited a lot of logistics pages just like what I created - the Transportify page. Could you point out how can I improve it to pass the Wikipedia standards more? I've made it concise and brief enough just to introduce companies. Realmel.martin (talk) 09:15, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Realmel.martin - it's not the quality of the article as such - the guideline here is WP:GNG - the general notability guideline and specifically WP:NCORP - notability of companies. Transportify is not, as per those guidelines, notable. It may be worth looking at other articles where a mention of Transportify would be appropriate - perhaps even in Food delivery! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 10:13, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see. I've added new references on the page hopefully to increase the notability of the page. I would not like the page to be deleted because I believe the company has notable contribution in the trucking and logistics scene in Asia and the Philippines. I however, is very much open to accept points of revision so I can continue working on the page for it to remain longer. Realmel.martin (talk) 02:30, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand the deletion request. Mbali Dhlamini is a young artist. In the few years she has been working, she has produced original works/series. I find the arguments for the deletion subjective. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaubuk (talkcontribs) 15:03, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Alexandermcnabb,

Thanks for the work you cheerfully put into making Wikipedia content compliant to policies.

On the tagging of Elesin Oba, The King's Horseman for lack of notability, I had undid the tag because the article meets notability. It was directed by of Africa's most recognized directors, premiered at one of the world's most prominent film festivals and is based on a book by a Noble prize winning author. Danidamiobi (talk) 15:40, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it does, Danidamiobi. Perhaps let other editors be the judge of that - but the FILM needs coverage from independent sources. It doesn't matter if the world's most authory author wrote the book, or if its most directory director directed it - it doesn't even matter if the world's most actory actor acted in it - is IT notable? That means finding sources - references - to the film. See WP:GNG and WP:NFILM. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 15:46, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Sarkis Martirosyan

[edit]

Why did you move it to the draft space? You were VERY vague, only said it was "not ready". If notability is a concern to you, please read the guidelines on miltiary biographies which clearly state that recipients of their state's highest award (Hero of the Soviet Union in this case) are notable. Also, if you think the article needs more sources, you could have imported any of the many sources in it's corresponding Russian and Armenian language counterparts (those articles are WAYY longer and I intended to expand it off the Russian article later). Please consider editing an article before moving it to a draft space which effectively deletes it from the record.--RespectCE (talk) 13:15, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RespectCE - it really doesn't! In any case, until it's reviewed or 90 days old, it never reaches the record. Do please feel free to ping me when there are more sources and perhaps even information in the article in which case I'd be happy to take a look at it and, if appropriate, AfC it back to Mainspace. Hello, and thank you for your concern about Van Powell. As you can see, various sources seem to establish a fairly sufficient notability, so I'm wondering if you might consider withdrawing your deletion proposal. Up to you, obviously. Best, -MY, OH MY! (mushy yank) 23:12, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, regarding your accusation of bludgeoning at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pehr W. Palmrooth, did you intend to address it to me specifically? Ljleppan (talk) 07:46, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Could I gently suggest consideration of WP:DROPTHESTICK and WP:BLUDGEON now?" was my comment, Ljleppan, it was by no means an accusation. But if you wish to take it on board, then I'd anticipate no harm could possibly come from such consideration. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 14:17, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm having a bit of a hard time understanding your response, but I suppose I'll just interpret it as a non-specific comment directed at no editor in specific. Ljleppan (talk) 14:32, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please feel free to take it personally or generally as you see fit, @Ljleppan. Either way, it's perhaps worth consideration... Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 15:18, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you have a problem with my editing, just say it: I'll gladly take any direct feedback into account. Otherwise, I'd appreciate if you stopped with what I interpret to be thinly veiled accusations. Ljleppan (talk) 15:25, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Voice Arts Awards notability tag

[edit]

Hello! Would you mind elaborating on your rationale for placing this tag? The independent sources I've used are largely industry-specific sources, but their coverage seemed pretty substantial to me. Additionally, this article is still a work in progress, and there are additional sources I haven't yet used, so I would be interested in your interpretation of the sourcing component of the notability guideline, as it seems we may not see it quite the same way. Thanks! LaMenta3 (talk) 20:26, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the talk page of the article may be a better place for this discussion, LaMenta3, but I'd note there are a LOT of primary sources used in the article and that the best place to develop a WIP is in Draft space or a sandbox - articles in mainspace are reviewed by New Page Patrol and it was that process that saw the article tagged - articles can also be draftified or nominated for deletion if their subjects aren't notable - the WP:GNG being the guidance used for that. The Society of Voice Arts and Sciences website or its press releases aren't sources that can demonstraate notability - and VoiceOverXtra could be arguable as an independent source. That leaves very little indeed in the article as it stands to show that the awards pass the GNG - hence the tag! There's every chance that the article in its current state could be nominated for deletion, so I'd get those extra sources in or - if you'd prefer - I can happily pop it into draftspace where you can work on it undisturbed for a while. Please help us add more information.

Regarding BigMotor, the basis on which we can say that there are many scandals reported in Japan is that a Google search for 'ビッグモーター' brings up many news stories about scandals. We hope you will help us by searching for additional information. Wikidate47 (talk) 17:48, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the concern you raised concerning the article Bizuum Yadok. The article has been defined and improved. A google search shows it's notability and importance. I suggest it should be improved and expand rather than being deleted. Ezra Cricket (talk) 20:35, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your comment

[edit]

Hello,

I've redacted a comment you made at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mojo (programming language). Please do not cast aspersions at other editors. I know that running into the same editors over and over again at AFDs can bring frustration and a familiarity that prompts off-handed comments. But there are thoughts that we can think but we don't post for everyone to see. Even if the comment was meant humorously, it can bring down the level of civility in deletion discussions. Please do not do this again. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 23:00, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good grief, @Liz, it's called humour, and @Scope creep would have taken it as such. I have removed the remains of the comment because absent the humour it is simply rude. Please don't do that to me again unless a complaint has been made by another editor. Alexandermcnabb (talk) 08:03, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Liz: I thought the comment was quite funny and took it in the spirit that it was intended, which was a funny joke. Unfortunately, we are not even allowed that and there seems to be no humour on WP. I got a laugh out of it. Kudos to Alexander McNabb for trying to get a laugh going. scope_creepTalk 08:15, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I was wondering why you tagged this obvious Wiktionary redirect for speedy deletion. It had just been tagged for CSD yesterday and untagged. It's quite a coincidence for the page to get tagged two days in a row. I guess you haven't encountered a Wiktionary redirect so far because I don't see how CSD G6 was an appropriate criteria for a redirect. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 02:17, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Liz, it was indeed my first encounter with one of these and presumably also for the other editor. We live and learn! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 04:19, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I try to find the balance between healthy discussion and WP:BLUDGEON and I note that I have commented a few times. An article that I started is up for deletion and I think and hope it is normal to seek clarification and to try to persuade and I'm trying to be careful around that. Asking you to correct the suggestion that I've replied to "every" comment - there are multiple !votes and even multiple delete !votes that I did not reply to. Just in the interests of accuracy and fairness, please strike "every". In peace, CT55555(talk) 15:53, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing & no problem. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 16:27, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On another note, I had meant to amend the 'letter and spirit' part of my comment to note I was borrowing that lovely turn of phrase from you, and then the discussion closed before I got to it. But I tip my hat to you, and wanted to at least say so :) Beccaynr (talk) 00:06, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the discussion opened again, so I was able to add my note! Cheers, Beccaynr (talk) 00:13, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Purlie Victorious

[edit]

Hi!

The Purlie Victorious page - which you moved out of the Mainspace a few months back - needs to be brought live today or tomorrow. The Broadway revival begins performances tonight (9/7), and the page cannot wait 4 months for review to go live.

Draft:Purlie Victorious

I’ve edited down any prominent issues with the page, but otherwise, the page now has the basic information on a well regarded 60s broadway play by a prominent playwright that is now receiving a prominent revival.

Can you please review and consider taking live today or tomorrow?

Thanks!

Mistamystery (talk) 16:44, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Mistamystery - that's done. The timing is really not the essence, but the article is sourced now and would pass WP:GNG, so we're good to go! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 05:08, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm Twenty Something

[edit]

Hello,

The article "I'm Twenty Something" is being considered for deletion. I added more sources and informations, do you think it is still considered for deletion?

I'm still new, I am always looking for any positive feedback!

Best,

Antoine AntoineČiobreliai (talk) 14:36, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @AntoineČiobreliai - it's likely (IMHO) the film wouldn't pass the notability standards required for a Wikipedia article (as noted in the nomination for deletion, WP:GNG and WP:NFILM would apply here), but the deletion process gives seven days for editors to weigh in and give their views before an admin closes the discussion with a decision - so the process is underway and it's really up for others to decide now whether the film is notable or not. Thanks for creating new articles, if you're ever unsure about notability or suchlike, you can use the new article creation process WP:AfC to get help and guidance on improving articles before they go into Mainspace, where things like deletion nominations can happen! Vikas Shakya

[edit]

Greetings I saw you nominated Vikas Shakya for delition and in your comment, you saw G11 delition criteria applicable on it. Let me explain, i have created numerous articles before, but this was my first article about a personality from the glamour world. Some texts may appear pov, but that could be changed. I request you to withdraw the nomination as significant expansion is going to happen on that article and i will try to remove pov stuff.- Admantine123 (talk) 07:11, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cherries (2022 short) : Notability, orphan

[edit]

Hello,

I made some changes to this page you tagged.

For the orphan tag, now this page is linked to the Cannes Festival 2022 Wiki page.

For the Notability one, I changed one source and added a few more. I don't see the issue anymore now, the pages are either Festivals, professional Movie industry database or National Lithuanian newspapers.

What do you think now?

If you have the time, I would be super happy to have your feedback, I want to grow and become more skilled at Wikipedia as I have other pages in mind! Thank you by advance

Best,

Antoine AntoineČiobreliai (talk) 07:36, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya - briefly, the two guidelines you might need to take a look at are WP:GNG and WP:NFILM - for a start, I'd remove the many, many redlinks from the page (ie: links to people/things which don't have Wikipedia articles). I'd also review the sources against the criteria in WP:NFILM... Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 07:51, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the review. I take your point about the Marston book but I got the information from a historical endnote about the eventual fate of the ship eight years after the novel's timeframe, so it isn't fictional. I hadn't yet looked for internet sources and it sort of got left in. Anyway, the History Press article states the facts about the engine room deaths and the Army payroll so I've used that for the extra citations.

Dogsbody (album)

[edit]

Hi, I checked your mention, but you wrote that Dogsbody (album) didn't meet Wikimedia: Notability (music) standards, but I think this album meets under the first part, "The recording has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent from the musician or ensemble who created it." (Pitchfork, Beat per Minute). And I'll add more additional links to DIY Magazine, Consequence, Sputnikmusic (staff review), and you'll see in Wikimedia: WikiProject Album/Sources that all three are reliable sources. 올해의수상자 (talk) 07:10, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Khasbar should be added to the total list of Ror Balwant Chopra (talk) 07:18, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to be WP:BOLD and add 'em, and any sources you may have, to the Ror article but independent notability is currently absent, so a redirect is still appropriate. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 07:20, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Reference has also been given in adding what is the problem? Balwant Chopra (talk) 07:49, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WP:GNG is the problem. Can I suggest you apply that guideline to the proposed article? Until its subject can demonstrably pass that guideline, it should remain as a redirect. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 10:32, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Page mover granted

[edit]

Hello, Alexandermcnabb. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages.

Jeffrey Ansloos article - Multiple orphan tags

[edit]

Greetings, for the Jeffrey Ansloos article I removed the three orphan tags that were added here. For the What links here, the article is wikilinked at two articles so it is not an orphan. Regards, JoeNMLC (talk) 19:36, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That's great, @JoeNMLC - the page curation tool is dumping multiple tags at the moment, hence the duplications! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 05:57, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, some time ago I did "try-out" that page curation tool and discovered a number of "false positives", namely the article is tagged as Orphan and it really is not an orphan. So there may be a time-lag on that New Pages feed. After some thought, I can see how people can think "This article is an orphan, so I need to tag it" instead of fixing it, or checking "What links here" (alt-shift-j) to investigate further; or that the article my already have the Orphan tag. I will start a discussion here. We need "Add orphan" display or "Tagged orphan", IMO. Regards, JoeNMLC (talk) 13:35, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cherries (2022 short) Notability tag

[edit]

Hello Alexander,

I don't understand the reason behind a second time a notability tag on a Lithuanian short. Could you give me clear reasons? Cherries is the second Lithuania page you tagged but the articles were backed by national and international newspapers/website and were nominated to prestigious and serious international festivals. Cherries was nominated at Short Cannes Festival, the second most important short festival of the world. So to me, it seems that no shorts at all should pass the test if cherries doesn't. AntoineČiobreliai (talk) 13:40, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The article talk page is the place for this discussion, really - but the relevant guideline here is WP:NFO, and here I'm informed by criteria 3 - "The film has received a major award for excellence in some aspect of filmmaking." (my bold) A nomination is not an award - and a festival screening is not necessarily sufficient for criteria 1 - "The film is widely distributed and has received full-length reviews by two or more nationally known critics." Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 15:07, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, other editors may agree/disagree - hence the tag. It's not a badge of dishonour, it's a call for more eyes! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 15:08, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Casimir Mondon-Vidailhet

[edit]

Could you please explain the reason for the notability tag at Casimir Mondon-Vidailhet. Explanation on the talk page would of the article be appreciated. Otherwise, I will remove the tag until it is properly substantiated. Thanks. Olivier (talk) 09:11, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Note that I will not remove the tag unilaterally, but a rationale would be very welcome. Olivier (talk) 09:34, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the addition! Olivier (talk) 01:47, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Of course, I already wrote “Keep” in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Decadent (band), but there are parts that are not true in the parts you wrote in the discussion you opened, so I’ll write it to you.

You wrote that the Decadent (band) article doesn't correspond to WP:Band because they didn't win the award, but you could look at no. 8 over there, it says that “the registration of nominations” at the major awards shows notability. (Even if they didn’t win) And I also wrote about no 9 on the deletion discussion page and revised the article, so you could check it.

When I write an article about music, I first check if they correspond to WP:MN and then write it. Thank you for reading the long message, and I'm sorry to bother you. But this time I am writing because I thought some of your sentences are not true. 올해의수상자 (talk) 05:21, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Edgard

[edit]

Hi there @Alexandermcnabb. I’m the editor who wrote (and then rewrote) Edgard&Cooper. I made substantial edits to the page, and another administrator removed your G11 because they didn’t feel it was valid. I think you may have missed some of the changes made, and the admin who deleted the page when prompted (despite the removed G11) may have missed that the page was substantially different. I’m going to resubmit the altered page; just a heads up. Thanks, SerAntoniDeMiloni (talk) 09:24, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You're probably better off raising this with the deleting admin - a recreation without substantive sourcing, scrupulously neutral language and a clear pass of WP:GNG and/or WP:NCORP is likely to find itself G11'd again, or at AfD absent my intervention, other new page reviewers may well take a similar view. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 08:19, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Alexandermcnabb. Appreciate the response. Best, SerAntoniDeMiloni (talk) 14:55, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's still essentially corporate/brand promotion and refbombing it doesn't remove that... Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 15:28, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Alexandermcnabb. I disagree there: it's a key example of the increasing rise of ' challenger brands' – businesses taking on and challenging the status quo – a topic I'm quite interested in (per quite a lot of my other contributions). These challengers (and especially star ones) need more representation on Wiki; I use this pet food it to feed my dogs at home. Would be great to get some thoughts on improvements that could be made. Notability tag - Greta Grinevičiūtė

[edit]

Hello,

This is the same message as the 3 I sent you before for other Wikipedia pages, and I am not understanding again. Please explain the notability tag on Greta Grinevičiūtė, because all my sources are from either different national Lithuanians newspapers or the most estimed movie festivals. My sources are serious and diverse, including the Golden Globes and the Sundance Festival. And about the Content, Greta Grinevičiūtė is an international dancer, won Lithuanian national theater and dance award multiple times and is in 2023 the main actress of the latest Sundance Directing Award 2023. It seems to me that this is enough to remove the notability tag. Thanks.

Best,

Antoine AntoineČiobreliai (talk) 11:06, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

PS : My message has to be read in a very chill tone haha, I am not angry at all and I am not looking for problems! :) AntoineČiobreliai (talk) 11:12, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The issues lie in the sources - you're looking for high quality, WP:RS reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject and treat the subject in some degree of depth WP:GNG. The notability tag is a request for eyes and consensus, not a badge of dishonour! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 11:38, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Otluk Mountains

[edit]

Can you explain on which page you mentioned Otluk mountains in this pdf resource you gave? There is more than one mountain called otluk in Turkey. Are you sure? Otluk mountains extend from the middle of Muş to the Bitlis border.Vartolu3566 (talk) 15:57, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm really not sure what you're talking about - perhaps start a talk on the article page? For my part, I added a reference to Xenophon's Anabasis, a mention in an academic paper and not a PDF. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 16:09, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In the source, it was stated that they crossed from the Otluk mountains to the Euphrates river. I found this short sentence in Google search. But the grass mountains are quite far from the Euphrates river. Do you want me to delete the resource you added? Vartolu3566 (talk) 17:57, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Transliteration of Arabic

[edit]

I was amused by your example on your User page. The town of Pézenas in the south of France, weakly associated with Molière, has been spelt Pézenas (probably correct), Pézénas, Pezénas, and Pezenas. Once driving through there (around 30 years ago, so what I say may no longer be true) I noticed that all four spellings could be found on the signs around and in the town. Note that this is not a translation from Arabic or anything else, but (presumably) French people writing in French. Athel cb (talk) 09:11, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That's pretty impressive for a Romance language, @Athel cb! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 09:13, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sohar

[edit]

You undid a cited revision clarifying the history of the city, cited from a well-respected historian on the matter, from a much more recently published book, and re-instated a version that is vague. I'd like to know the reasoning behind this before I re-instate the citation/information from al-Salimi's Oman: A Maritime History, and why you consider the cited content to be 'puzzling' over the uncited content. The existing citation does not mention Sohar in the context of Ormuz once, and the Arabic language page for the Sohar Fort corroborates the same content with its own citations. This is a matter of the appropriateness of the reversion and not the content and that's why I do not bring it up on the article talk page. Mehrashehra (talk) 05:22, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not a hill I intend to die on, but you really shouldn't have removed the Hormuz material. Flag it as Cite Needed by all means, but removing it just looks like purposeful obfuscation of historical fact. I'm not saying that was your intent, just how it looks. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 14:15, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The Hormuz material is not supported by the citations and is directly contradicted by added citations. I understand why it would look like vandalism though. I am going to restore the cited material, as well as add additional citations for the relationship between Ormuz and Bani Nabhan during this period. No doubt the existence of the Sohar Fort as constructed by the Hormuzi princes caused some confusion as to the actual control of the city of the time, and I understand why removing this would seem like vandalism. The Arabic-language sources that I'll add will hopefully clear up the confusion: the city remained under the control of Bani Nabhan but their maritime affairs were handled by Hormuz, and Hormuzi ascendancy over the city would not happen until later.

Hello @Alexandermcnabb, Khejarla Fort is an old heritage site and fort in rajasthan. This is famous fort which was built by Maharaja Gopal Das ji. This is a notable thing. Please move this articles to orignal as i created. Thanks in advance Ramulalji (talk) 13:00, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Ramulalji - the problem you have is that Khejarla Fort as it was presented demonstrated no notability - that is, it did not have WP:SIGCOV significant coverage in independent reliable sources - WP:RS. And so it doesn't pass the general notability guideline - WP:GNG and is likely to be deleted. An alternative to deletion is to redirect the article to Khejarla, where the fort is mentioned (I added a little detail on it there, in fact). Can I suggest you take a look at the links to these guidelines I have provided and familiarise yourself with them? That'd help you put together a more enduring article - and by the way, working on that article in Draftspace would be a better idea!!! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 15:47, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
ok i will rewrite this articles and after that i will distrub you again : ) Ramulalji (talk) 09:23, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
this fort is listed in top tourism place of rajasthan by officials and government of rajasthan. i am sharing you official link of page. https://www.tourism.rajasthan.gov.in/content/rajasthan-tourism/en/forts.html

Speedy deletion declined: 2024 Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit

[edit]

Hello Alexandermcnabb. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of 2024 Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: I've taken out all the stuff about the roadshows, which was the spammiest part. What's left is still a bit promotional, but I think that's mainly language. The source range indicates that this is more than just spam. . Thank you. GedUK  10:20, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:40, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Alexandermcnabb!

Please, when you have a chance, check whether the topic of this article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline. I have added more sources. Thank you in advance. --Alex091981 (talk) 16:13, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

See what you think about these articles for places in Dubai. Both have been proposed for deletion:

Note that second opinion ("Originated by now-blocked puppeteer and edited by sockpuppets") is not a binding reason to delete since the articles were created before the puppeteer was blocked. (The rules for this are at WP:G5)

I value your understanding of UAE geography. --A. B. (talkcontribsglobal count) 19:43, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, @A. B. - thanks, that's kind of you. They're both rubbish, from the same (I've always assumed 'young man' but that is something of an assumption!) as a whole raft of other misleading and fallacious articles before they got blocked for socking (and 99.9% of their contributions reverted). Basically they got hold of a list of 'place names' from Dubai Municipality and where these locations on the geographical database didn't conform with any basic idea of notability, dressed them up with images and copy/pasted tags to look like 'actual' articles. Al Ttay is an area of warehouses and a car pound, a completely non-notable sub-area of the notable district of Khawaneej - which is currently a redirect to Dubai and not a 'community' as such or per GEOLAND - and Nakhlat Deira is a relatively arbitrary carving off of an area of Northern Deira but not even arguably GEOLAND (as, for instance Al Murar - which reminds me I should add some history to that one!). So I would heartily support Double Grazing's PRODs! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 06:50, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! --A. B. (talkcontribsglobal count) 07:08, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alexander, thanks for the amend. To be fair, the whole article is a mixture of hearsay, legend and rubbish, but a good idea to keep it as you left it for any readers from the Grauniad who follow the link in today's article about the incident. Ericoides (talk) 09:01, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

[edit]

Hello Alexandermcnabb,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Notability tag on The Myth of Falcon page

[edit]

Dear Alexander, I'm reaching out regarding the The Myth of Falcon page, where you added a Notability tag last October and suggested adding more information and sources. I've made some updates. The article now contains additional details about the inspiration behind the overture, its structure, and music samples of the folk tune integrated by the composer. Furthermore, I've included several source links as per your recommendation. Could you please review the changes and advise if the Notability tag can be removed? Thank you for your contributions. Best regards, Patrick0506 (talk) 19:33, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya. Responded on the article talk page. I'm afraid I still don't believe the piece is notable! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 13:14, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
Yes, I just answered there too :) Thank you for your input. I am grateful for your help, and I will keep improving. Best! Patrick0506 (talk) 12:01, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Opinion on request review

[edit]

Hi @Alexandermcnabb, I hope all is going well. I am a conflict of interest editor who made a request at Talk:Sultan Al Jaber. As an editor who has previously contributed to the page, engaged with another COI editor on the talk page, and is interested in articles related to the Emirates, I was wondering whether you could assess the changes I have put forward. Specifically, my first point, which is that I feel more balance could be given in the article lead by the incorporation of a sentence regarding the international response to the agreement presided over by Sultan Al Jaber at the conclusion of the COP28 summit. Thank you! Dedemocha (talk) 14:41, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

al bu muhair family edit

[edit]

Hello @Alexandermcnabb, How are you doing. I would just like to inform you that the whole Yemen situation is very misleading, our origin is Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi. We are members of the bani yas alliance it would be impossible that we are from Yemen. As a local myself ask any local anyone would tell you that this is false information, so as a al bu muhair tribe member myself I feel the obligation to delete anything misleading to my tribe. I really hope you understand and keep it that way because this causes argument between locals, take care and stay safe. Mmmmh0o (talk) 02:01, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Mmmmh0o - You are missing the key point here, which is that information in Wikipedia needs to be based on a reliable source - citations are used for that very reason. Because you 'know' something to be true doesn't mean it's true. The information you are trying to remove is sourced, to a reliable source. Until you provide sources that refute (and they would have to be pretty strong) that source, the information stands. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 09:33, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
