From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is the user page for SailinStuff. Welcome.

I would like to be adopted.

I joined Wikipedia because there is a page that is factually inaccurate. I would like to correct the inaccuracies. I want to do this in the proper/acceptable way. Because I am totally new to Wikipedia I am concerned that I will commit blunders in my attempt to correct the inaccuracies I have identified. In fact, being new, it seems certain that without mentoring I will be virtually certain to do something incorrectly. I want to avoid that.

This situation is complicated by the fact that the people who are editing the page in question are not using the Talk page. The situation is further complicated by the fact that some people have very strong feelings about the topic. I want to avoid being banned/barred/blocked or whatever other control measures are directed at careless or trouble-making Wikipedians.

Please adopt me and help me make Wikipedia an accurate source. Thank you.

Please feel free to email me at sailinstuff@yahoo.com. I am not familiar yet with the Wikipedia communication system. Thanks again.

As I read more about how things are done on Wikipedia, I have discovered Mentoring. (On this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:MENTOR)

I find this passage:

Voluntary mentorship

Sometimes one or more experienced editors will take a newer user under their wing. In some cases, this might arise due to difficulties the new user is having with other users or with Wikipedia policies and guidelines. In other cases, the protégé simply feels he or she would benefit from the help of a more seasoned Wikipedia editor. Voluntary mentorship often arises spontaneously, as two or more editors naturally develop a mentorship-like relationship. A good place for new editors to receive voluntary mentorship is Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user. In Adopt-a-user, adoption, a specific form of voluntary mentorship for new or inexperienced users, is practiced. Sometimes, mentorship is requested for special purposes, like learning New page patrol or becoming prepared to be an Administrator.

I am requesting voluntary mentorship "for special purposes". I "simply feel (I) would benefit from the help of a more seasoned Wikipedia editor" and I am requesting that help. I will very much appreciate it if "one or more experienced editors will take a newer user (me) under their wing" for the purpose of correcting factual inaccuracies on a Wikipedia page. Many thanks in advance!!!!
