From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I aspire to be a wikignome but also make some contributions in my areas of interest, including those mentioned below. I am a fairly frequent participant in deletion discussions of various kinds but try to limit my comments to when they will be helpful. After all Est omnino difficile iudicare inclusionis meritum cuiusdam rei in encyclopædia cum ratio sciendi quid populi referat incerta sit, sed nihilominus aliquid encyclopædiam dedecet.[1]

I began editing Wikipedia in late 2005 first from IP's such as 156.33.140.149 and then registered an account on March 2nd, 2006 in order to create the article Keynes (disambiguation). Prior to 2006 unregistered users could create articles. I became an administrator on August 8th, 2007 after my second request for adminship. Since then I have worked largely at AfD and DRV closing deletion discussions and opining when I think I have something important to say.

Most of my direct contributions to the encyclopedia have been wikignoming, fixing typos, replacing internal links to the wrong page, and miscellaneous clean-up. I have however written a few articled from scratch: Patrick Flores, Mark Johnson (producer), Vatta's War, etc. I have also moved around content so that it is organized better and created redirects, especially from titles that seemed logical to me. Minor stuff, but I believe that overall I have been a net positive.

As part of my interest in deletion discussions, I have sometimes commented on the various notability guidelines that we have. Especially Wikipedia:Notability (films) of which I wrote the first draft. Others have vastly rewritten it, much to its improvement, but I am gratified that they have seen value in my proposal.

I believe that Wikipedia is just beginning, and that it has a prosperous future ahead of it. All we have to do is keep working. Sometimes outside disputes or disruptive editors can get in the way, but overall we are still on the right track. Our explosive early growth has slowed and a renewed focus on recruiting and retaining quality editors is necessary. Nevertheless, I am convinced that the best is yet to come. Certainly, nothing that is required is more difficult or unlikely than a bunch of random people getting together and writing the world's most popular encyclopedia.
