Video games

[edit]

@Pumpoffed: Why don't you think those tie-in video games should not be included here? They're directly related to the films that are the focus of this template. Pinging @NunyaBeeness in case they have additional comments. InfiniteNexus (talk) 21:41, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I concur with @InfiniteNexus. Those specific games are directly tied to the movies and should be included. NunyaBeeness (talk) 04:49, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@InfiniteNexus: @NunyaBeeness: I think they should be put into a new, separate Template:X-Men (Fox franchise) template. They do relate to that film series/franchise, but not X-Men in film in general. Pumpoffed (talk) 17:10, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No. We already have three templates now. We don't need any more. InfiniteNexus (talk) 17:35, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@InfiniteNexus: @NunyaBeeness: I agree. Most of the info in Template:X-Men in film is about the 20th Century Fox X-Men series, except for Generation X, already mentioned in Template:X-Men in television. I think that should be cut, and this template renamed, meaning the tie-in video games can be added again. Pumpoffed (talk) 18:24, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Generation X is a DTV movie. Kind of a gray area. I don't have an opinion on this (i.e. stays on both templates or only one)
Regarding this template. It should not be renamed. Other films are coming from Marvel Studios that will be added here. At that time it'll need to be made clear which projects belong to which parent.
Video game tie ins should already be included here and there's no logical reason not to have them. Dr. Strange cameo should be removed. It is the only property in this template that is not an X-Men or mutant project. It sticks out like a sore thumb.
Films on the first column should be - as of now - the 20th Century Studios films since they are the only films that exist. I'd move the reference from the top to the first column. I would move the Cast Members reference to the Characters row, after Peter Maximoff. NunyaBeeness (talk) 18:45, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The Films header can't be linked to the Fox films because of Generation X (and Doctor Strange, if that stays). I'll add the tie-in video games back. InfiniteNexus (talk) 03:48, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@InfiniteNexus: @NunyaBeeness: That is what I mean. Take those two out, and this is a Template:X-Men (Fox franchise) template completely. As Generation X is already mentioned elsewhere, I think splitting this template if not renaming it would be best. Pumpoffed (talk) 10:00, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You do realize this template had just been split from {{X-Men media}}? If we make this a Fox-only navbox, where shall we place future MCU films? They're InfiniteNexus (talk) 17:39, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also you don't have to ping me every time, I am watching this page. InfiniteNexus (talk) 17:39, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
IMO the template is fine as is now except for the Dr. Strange mention which I'm having a hard time seeing why it should be here. NunyaBeeness (talk) 18:25, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But there are no future MCU films right now, and will not be for years. Right now this is essentially a Template:X-Men (Fox franchise) template already, but for the inclusion of Generation X. Pumpoffed (talk) 14:11, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Strange movie

[edit]

I do not believe Dr. Strange MoM should be included in this template. That is a cameo appearance by one X-Men member. It is not a film in the IP, produced or otherwise. Cameos and appearances in other movies are better off in its own section, if needed, instead of being amalgamated with other actual films using the property.NunyaBeeness (talk) 04:54, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Pumpoffed: Please explain why you believe Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness should be included here, since you were the one who added this in. InfiniteNexus (talk) 03:50, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@InfiniteNexus: If this is a Template:X-Men in film template, then it should be included, being an X-Man in film. If this is a Template:X-Men (Fox franchise) template (which it is), Generation X should be removed and the template renamed, while Doctor Strange (specifically featuring Patrick Stewart and having him quote his X-Men lines) should be move down to the Related section. If this remains a Template:X-Men in film template, then everything should stay where it is. Pumpoffed (talk) 10:00, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Dr. Strange is not an X-Men film, so no it shouldn't be included in "Others". Every property there is an X-Men/mutant film except Dr. Strange. It just doesn't belong. A cameo does not make it a film based on the property. NunyaBeeness (talk) 18:22, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, to be fair, an X-Men character did make in an appearance in that film. I can't think of any other films besides the Fox films and MoM that feature an X-Men character, can you? InfiniteNexus (talk) 23:21, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, and it wasn't legally allowed to appear anywhere but Fox films previously so any other appearances do not exist. It's not a film based on the IP though. It's a cameo of the IP on another IP. Similar to Spider-Man appearing in Avengers or Civil War. That's not a Spider-Man movie. Or to keep it to X-Men only, would you consider adding Spider-Man and Fantastic Four TV series to the Animated section of that template? I wouldn't, but there were X-Men cameos there. Likewise I would not consider Dr. Strange 2 an X-Men movie, spin off or otherwise. NunyaBeeness (talk) 00:09, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I would agree with InfiniteNexus. He is an X-Men character (the X in the X-Men part), and there are not the films beside the Fox films and MoM that feature one. Pumpoffed (talk) 14:11, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So by your rationale Captain America: Civil War, should be included in Template:Spider-Man_films, Template:Iron_Man, Template:Black_Panther_(Marvel_Comics), Template:Thor_(Marvel_Comics), Template:Black_Widow_(Marvel_Comics). Infinity War and Endgame should be included in all of the previous ones plus Template:Captain_America. Furthermore Spider-Man_(1994_TV_series), Spider-Man_and_His_Amazing_Friends_(1981_TV_series), Fantastic_Four_(1994_TV_series) should be included in Template:X-Men_in_television. In my view the answer should either be "Yes" to all of the above or there is no reasonable, logical reason to include Dr. Strange 2 in this template. NunyaBeeness (talk) 18:18, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot Thor is not in Civil War, but everything about my point still stands. There's actually a better argument to be made to include those in their templates since those appearances were way longer than the 2 minute cameo from Professor X in Strange 2. I still don't think they should since it's not a movie based on that IP, rather an appearance by the IP in another movie based on another IP. Following up on your rationale and if this is to be the case then is to be the case then you can add IW and Endgame to the following templates Template:Doctor_Strange, Template:Hulk, and Template:Captain_Marvel_(Marvel_Comics). Matter of fact Template:Captain_Marvel_(Marvel_Comics) and Template:Fantastic_Four_in_popular_media should have Dr. Strange 2 in them if we are following your line of thinking. NunyaBeeness (talk) 23:25, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
TotalTruthTeller24 again! I don't believe it. Should have caught this earlier... Anyway, @NunyaBeeness, if you are still insistent on MoM to be removed feel free to do so, because there is technically no longer any opposition (note that I have been neutral on this).
