"worshipped at the altar of heavy metal"? Give me a break. --DCrazy talk/contrib 00:37, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This article could use some NPOV edits and citations for these claims of critical and commercial success. Also: "Most of their early work had a special trademark that resembled many of the European Black and Death Metal bands of the 1980s." and "David Wayne's vocals resembled those of the growls used by the European black metal bands but in a very high pitched tone." are pretty much just the author's own opinions. I have never heard anyone claim such things prior to reading this article. --MacMoney 11:24, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah this needs NPOV-edits. On a side note according to the liner notes of Mangled Demos from 1983 by The Melvins (fans of Metal Church will not like those liner notes) this band was still a Iron Maiden and The Scorpions (while already named Metal Church) cover-band circa 1982-1983 rather than the inventors of Thrash metal in 1981. The Truth might even be somewhere in between...

Disagreement over the "Iron Maiden/Scorpions cover band" Statement  ;)

[edit]

I Disagree Due to the following reasons:

1. Songs from their "four hymns" demo tape (circa August 1982), indicate a more Judas Priest influence rather than Iron Maiden. Plus, Scorpions sang ballads (or are you referring to the easy-beat band from the 1960's?) and were a heavy metal band that are best known for singing ballads only. Metal Church are remembered for their openers, and their first album.

2. If Kurdt Vanderhoof is the "Geezer Butler of Metal Church", why would he want to sing ballads? This is not Metallica we are talking about.

3. None of their album titles have a single reference to "Lovebirds and Fiction" {;)}, and instead focus on more serious topics. e.g. Batallions refers to attack from foreign forces (enemies, terrorists, extremists, minority groups etc). similarly, Deathwish refers to unexpected death.

Other than that, I totally agree with the "Writer's Opinion" fact. and the 'Worship" opinion too. (It was written o their oficial website, what could I do?)

...could someone please teach me how to upload pictures? And message the procedure in my message inbox? I would be grateful.

Nice Devils horns, I like!

Missing facts in early history of the band

[edit]

It's not really important, per se, but Lars Ulrich of Metallica was considered for the drummer position in Metal Church before he moved out to Los Angeles. Might be a nice little Fun Fact to put in the article.

NOTE: Ron Quintana, KUSF FM "Rampage Radio" disc jockey and Metal Mania fanzine editor set up the audition for Lars Ulrich with Metal Church but he never went. -See R.R.R - RETRO ROCKET REVIEW fanzine Issue #1, January 2013, Canada, [Ron Quintana interview done Sept.28th,2011].

"From Aberdeen"

[edit]

I don't doubt that they started there, but weren't the based in Seattle for most of their career? Citations on this (whichever way it turns out to go) would be nice. - Jmabel | Talk 03:09, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Metal Church started in San Francisco

[edit]

Kurdt Vanderhoof lived in San Francisco and his apartment was nicknamed The Metal Church because everyone came to jam there. That is where the band name came from. That is when they coined the phrase "join the congregation". Lars Ulrich did play with them but jokes himself that he was not good enough for the band. Metallica and Metal Church have many common roots in the start up years. Both bands were signed to the same label. Metal Church are considered the pioneers of Thrash —Preceding unsigned comment added by Attempter (talkcontribs) 18:50, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Missing info on 1981 demo

[edit]

Any reason why the 1981 demo with "Red Skies," "Heads Will Roll" and "Merciless Onslaught" isn't mentioned in here? Was that demo under a different band name? If it was a Metal Church album, it really deserves to be in there - that's a major point in thrash metal's history. Random name (talk) 15:57, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Jersey_hardcore if you click :shrapnel" from the "first wave" it takes you to here , metal church. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.192.118.180 (talk) 19:17, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, there is no separate Shrapnel article: the period in which Metal Church called itself Shrapnel is covered in this article. The link in the NJHC article is presumably about another band with the same name who do not have an article. I will fix it. CCS81 (talk) 21:32, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why the "90 Demo" is not listed?

[edit]

It is documented after leaving Electra/Asylum, Metal Church recorded and distributed an unnamed demo in early 1990 at Triad studios with Three Tracks 1) To the Naked Eye 2) End to End 3) Flee From Reality. The demo helped get them signed to Epic Records. Why is this not listed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.169.68.17 (talk) 22:43, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
