[edit]June 2008 At the Bank of International Settlements, Senior advisor William White , being 65, went into retirement. Popular, and newly married, he went with honour. His boss, General Manager Malcolm Knight confirmed he was staying on, being only 64. Bill White , as a real worker, leaves a huge hole. One week later, and Mr Knight shocked all by changing his mind. Now was moving over to DeutscheBank, to start there October 6th.
To have two top men leave seriously weakens this Banker´s Bank. As a Swiss and neutral institute, it oversees, regulates and mediates between private banks and national Treasuries. People at BIS are priviledged to know much insider fine detail. For Malcolm Knight to quickly jump over to this one private bank with all his current knowledge gives DeutscheBank a huge competitive advantage. Unfairly. Sadly, such is becoming a pattern. He follows Caio Koch-Weser and Helmut Bauer, both suborned by CEO Josef Ackermann from the German Finance Ministry.
BIS sent Mr Knight home immediately, to get him out of the loops. Credit here, as this was a huge step, and fast , within top banking. There is a code of ethics, albeit rather vague. Details like a time-out of one year are simply not there. Also lacking are teeth like coming on pension rights for wrongs.
Malcolm Knight and Josef Ackermann are on various international accounting standards, and ethical , bodies. They lecture on these themes.
