The expression "50 times dimmer" seems OK until you think about what it means, by strict reasoning. Using ordinary light sources as an example, let's say that the original source has a brightness of 1 lambert. 50 times that brightness is 50 lamberts, so a light source that is 50 times dimmer has a brightness of -49 lamberts! Even one time[s] dimmer would be totally dark. I'm not trying to be annoying, just hope to keep straight thinking in scientific writing.
