The lead

[edit]

Currently I find the lead difficult to follow and therefor not a great introduction to give the reader a broad understanding of what this land is. I went ahead and rephrased this section as well as adding additional information that the article goes further in depth to later on. --Goldenpterodactyl (talk) 03:10, 2 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Replaced Threats and Conservation Section

[edit]

Previously, this entire section was unreferenced. I replaced it with information about the threat of invasive species to the fynbos and an example of conservation efforts to combat this threat. I regret removing so much information but it can be revisited in the future if someone is willing to find citations for all the statements. WCK8207 (talk) 04:27, 27 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fire?

[edit]

Someone please explain the fire bit. What does fire have to do with these plants?

What's the difficulty? Some fynbos needs fire to germinate, as briefly explained in the article.Greenman 12:33, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting how this is also the case with many Australian plants, which are also sclerophyllous and live in a similar climate Eug 05:11, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation

[edit]

I do not comprehend the pronunciation. The phonetic spelling seems to indicate that, in an English spelling, it would be pronounced "fane-boss." However, general rules of pronunciation would seem to indicate three possible pronunciations for the "y": "fine-boss," "fin-boss," or "feen-boss." What is the correct pronunciation? jaknouse (talk) 20:19, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Fane-boss" is closest, definitely not "fin", "fine" or "feen". Greenman (talk) 20:59, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
