Was the external link Pictures of Badin Lake rejected due to the "anchor link"?Boseidon (talk) 02:47, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Now that I've spent several hours reading the help files, I realize I should have placed a suggestion here in the discussion area. So, I would like to suggest an external link to www.infobucket.com/photo/. It has many pictures of Badin Lake that vistors to the Badin Lake article should find informative. Infobucket isn't the place for images here. Images shown on Wikipedia are only the images hosted on wikipedia, which include only images that have the proper license (ie: you have to actually OWN the images to upload them). There are certain "fair use" exceptions, but they wouldn't apply here. You can only upload what you own and only if you release it under one of the Free licenses. (ie: free as in speech and free as in beer). The images I have uploaded (less than a dozen, including one for High Rock Lake) are images that I have personally taken and own the copyright for, as an example. let me expand a bit: If you own the photos, then you can upload them *if* you license them as free. (meaning I can download them Wikipedia and do whatever I want, so can everyone else). There will no ads next to them, no profit, virtually no control over how they are used once you do this, and you can't take a license away once you publish under it. Thank you for the explanation. I didn't wish to upload images from Infobucket. It was my intent to link to the site so that people might find the pictures of Badin Lake. In that way there would be no copyright problem. It seemed to fit all the requirements for an external link. Thank you for your help. Boseidon (talk) 20:04, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
