School alumni

[edit]

Hansraj Morarji Public and other schools are not really notable. This section should be deleted. Just mention the names of the schools in a list, but don't go on writing about their alumni etal. utcursch 08:33, Oct 25, 2004 (UTC)

Now I've no problem with this. See Wikipedia:Schools. I've moved the alumni section to the school's article. utcursch | talk July 5, 2005 09:19 (UTC)

Juhu

[edit]

Since when is Juhu/JVPD considered part of Andheri? In the twelve years I spent at Cooper, I never once knew it to be located in Andheri. --69.158.80.181 01:49, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've now removed Juhu and JVPD from the list of residential areas. --Amit 05:24, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Map requested

A map of Andheri is requested. If the map is copyrighted, the copyright owner must release the copyright, or allow it to be relicensed under GFDL. --Amit 04:23, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lists

[edit]

Hi guys, I am skeptical of including list of schools and colleges, malls, hospitals, places of worships... for that matter any kind of lists. Wiki is encyclopedia so things should be presented in details if they are worth knowing or is associated with any kind of important events in past or present. Information should not be bulleted.

Wikipedia is not a directory, and hey, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information either.

If you all agree I would like to delete all lists from this page. spacejuncky 15:41, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article is severely lacking proper content. I recommend that some serious content be put in first before deleting lists. --Amit 06:32, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is too much irrelevant information about Vijay nagar. Could this be made crisp. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.18.116.3 (talk) 12:55, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suburb

[edit]

Andheri is not actually a suburb like Americans call it. When this article says it is a suburb, it means a district of a city. Do you think we should add this on to the article and articles on the other districts of mumbai? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sidobagga (talkcontribs) 23:58, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Detailed Map

[edit]

A detailed map is available and I need help in adding it http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Map165.jpg&oldid=29890896

Schools, Colleges, Hospitals

[edit]

Suggestion: We can just mention 2-3 schools, colleges and hospitals and have a separate page for schools in andheri and in that page we can even describe their history? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rmoorkcor (talkcontribs) 16:18, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

station

[edit]

i think more details can be provided of andheri station, the outstation trains halting here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.183.198.205 (talk) 16:00, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

population

[edit]

population of andheri as 4million is improper seeing total mumbai population as 12million.this should be removed — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dhrvprkh91 (talkcontribs) 15:40, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

Judging by the images, there seems to be nothing other than a station in Andheri. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.248.130.148 (talk) 20:52, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edits

[edit]

Did a basic cleanup of sentences and re-arrangement of words in the article. Added a few historical details regarding the etymology of Andheri. Does anyone have any details regarding the BEST bus network in Andheri?, would imagine it's pretty large.  yanka  AD  =Talk= 11:33, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced

[edit]

This is almost entirely unsourced. Moved here per WP:PRESERVE. Per WP:BURDEN, don't restore without finding reliable sources, checking the content against them, and citing them.

This list also contains embedded URLs which is not OK per WP:EL.

Please also keep in mind WP:NOT]; we don't have to list every school in the suburb. High level summary about the school system would be great.

Schools

Andheri has a number of public as well as private schools serving the student population of this suburb. The list of schools includes:

Schools formerly in Andheri East:

@Jytdog: I'm going to repeat what's on your talk page:

"Usually lists of schools in a place aren't challenged - I think because the criteria for whether something needs to be sourced is whether the content's likely to be challenged and usually a list of schools is "self-evident". De facto IMO stuff that's likely to be challenged is 99% of material on WP, but anyway...
It's better IMO to mark the section as "refimprove" or "unsourced" so somebody will see that and add sources. If it's just removed somebody will come back and add another unsourced list of schools, or the material's gone and won't get unsourced (and not having an overview of the education in a city subdivision is a big omission).
Since it's not BLP it's not especially sensitive so one can be "soft" with it. In Andheri I sourced the Japanese school and threw up a refimprove for the rest: Andheri#Education"

Now - I believe in this case, and I'm basing it on observations and practice and this is in consideration of Wikipedia's sourcing requirements, it's better to be conservative and tag it with {{refimprove}} - I am well aware of the sourcing requirements, but we also need to consider relationships with budding/inexperienced editors and getting contributorship numbers back, as well as showing and teaching editors how to source things. Here are some explanations:

1. There's an expectation that "obvious" material doesn't need to be sourced (the sourcing guidelines do say this, in that material likely to be challenged should be sourced - implying that it doesn't have to if it's not likely to be challenged). Ideally this stuff all should be sourced (to postal addresses from official websites), but I think the contributors will think to themselves "oh, so-and-so and just google it" - to them it's "obvious". If you feel it's necessary to wipe the whole list, please chase down ever single contributor and tell them, in detail and in your own words, what's going on and exactly how to fix it. Despite the fact that officially the burden is on them, an inexperienced editor will give up and quit if he/she is too overwhelmed, and if this process happens too often, Wikipedia will be starved of new editors and the project would eventually deteriorate. Because lists of schools are not BLP-sensitive, it's way easier to just tag it and let someone else deal with it later (as long as you don't think someone's lying in the content or that it's an ad). This is how Wikipedia worked in the early days: Somebody adds something, then somebody else improves on it.
  • I notice List of educational institutions in Mumbai has some sources, but this largely doesn't have sources either.
  • Frankly I consider the EL guideline on no external links in the article text to be an afterthought sometimes - People shouldn't do that with ELs, but they do it anyway and to police it IMO is just like trying to clean the Augean stables without the river. Obviously it's best to just remove the ELs, in some cases I'd rather wait until it's time to bring it to good article standards before taking an effort to police that aspect as long as it's not blatant advertising.
2. Actually there was supposed to be a list for this: List of schools and colleges in Andheri (based upon User_talk:WhisperToMe/Archive_20#RE:Andheri) - But someone just redirected it after I split it off into its own article (on the grounds of lack of sources), but I wasn't aware of this until now. Plenty of places do have "List of schools in X place" and those articles don't often have sourcing either.
While technically Wikipedia isn't supposed to be a "directory" people do have lists of schools in small town/city subdivision articles and frankly that's to be expected as people want to know what schools are in those places, though if the lists are too long they should be pared down.

I will work on sourcing 5-10 of the entries. In the meantime, I will notify the user who created the list, @Deendata:, as well as a user who added the to lists, @YankaAD:, so they understand what's going on. I would suggest to them that they should cite street/postal addresses from official websites as protection for the content. WhisperToMe (talk) 05:49, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Now I started List of schools and colleges in Andheri as a repository. The best solution is to tag or to just source it anyway so new editors know what to do. Wipe it, and people will make the same mistakes again and again. WhisperToMe (talk) 06:44, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
