Expo 2027 Belgrade (Serbian: ЕКСПО 2027/EKSPO 2027) is a specialized exhibition that will be held in Belgrade, Serbia, from May 15 to August 15, 2027. The central theme of this Specialised Expo is "Play for Humanity: Sports and Music for All" and it focuses on the importance of play, sports and music and their contribution to the development of humanity.
On June 21, 2023, at the General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), Belgrade was chosen as the host of the Specialized Expo, being selected over competitors such as the Spanish Malaga, the American Minnesota, the Thai Phuket, and the Argentinian Bariloche.
History of Serbia's participation in EXPO exhibitions
[edit]Although this is the first time that the Specialized Expo is held in Serbia and the Balkan region, Serbia has a long history of participation in International Exhibitions. Serbia participated for the first time in 1885 in Antwerp, Belgium, and its first significant performance was at the World Expo 1900 Paris.
At Expo 2010 Shanghai, the Serbian pavilion left a special impression with a facade in the style of a traditional Pirot carpet. At Expo 2015 Milan and Expo 2020 Dubai, the Serbian pavilions presented a combination of traditional culture and modern technology.
The theme
[edit]The theme of the Specialised Expo, "Play for Humanity: Sports and Music for All", focuses on the importance of play, sports and music and their contribution to the development of humanity. About 120 countries, international organisations, and companies will have the opportunity to respond to the given theme by presenting at various programmes and activities on a 25-hectare exhibition space. More than 4 million visitors are expected.
Silver medal for the visual identity for Expo 2027 Belgrade
[edit]The Expo 2027 Belgrade branding project, designed by designer Saša Vidaković, with his London team SVIDesign, won a prestigious international recognition for their work. The silver award was presented by Graphis as part of the traditional annual 2025 Design Awards. The project is based on the recognisable logo of the event, which symbolises the reflection of the Belgrade Fortress in the water at the confluence of the Sava and the Danube, while the logo’s striking colours represent the play of light at different times of the day.
