Hello Nrdirects. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Magnetosphere (film), gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Nrdirects. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Nrdirects|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:36, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I receive no financial compensation WHATSOEVER. I only wish. If I did, I would disclose it. Please reinstate my edits. Removing them was wrong. Nrdirects (talk) 22:38, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In no way am I being compensated. This is entirely false. On the contrary, I just spent a lot of unpaid time making that article. Please reinstate my edits. Nrdirects (talk) 22:41, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You have an external relationship with this film, and you are a single purpose editor. Please refrain from editing articles about this film, and follow the guidelines at WP:COI. Thank you for your cooperation with this important Wikipedia policy. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:53, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is pretty unfair, as I just stated the facts. But I’m not interested in fighting it. 2603:7080:E505:372E:FCEB:FD8C:C80F:A324 (talk) 22:56, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Genuinely doing nothing wrong. Trying to post factual info about Nicola Rose and the movie Magnetosphere. Her first film Goodbye, Petrushka is already well cited here. This is not a spam or advertising account. I'm exhausted with this.

Accept reason:

Conditional unblock per talk page discussion and agreement to indefinite topic ban. Ad Orientem (talk) 01:51, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

So you aren't paid as the director of the film? 331dot (talk) 23:52, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not one cent. If anything, I lose money daily as the director of the film. Indie directors are NEVER paid in any way. 2603:7080:E505:372E:FCEB:FD8C:C80F:A324 (talk) 00:14, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Several points, first you may not use IP addresses to edit while you are blocked. If you wish to discuss the block you must do so on your talk page and using your account. Secondly, it is clear that you are in fact Nicola Rose, and that you have failed to disclose this despite messages advising you of the requirements in WP:COI. And further that your edits are very obviously intended to promote your work. Regrettably, I stand by the block. -Ad Orientem (talk) 00:26, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha - if our team (it's me and an assistant) promises not to post anything further until release of the film, can we unblock? This is bizarre, but I'm not going to fight it. Nrdirects (talk) 00:30, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Remember to log in when posting, please. Even if you receive nothing for your work on the film, you have a severe conflict of interest, as has been pointed out to you already. Films that have not yet been released only rarely merit articles, usually only if there is something very unusual about the production of the film(such as Alec Baldwin discharging a firearm on set which merited the film Rust an article before its release) 331dot (talk) 00:27, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Per WP:NOSHARING only one person can have access to the account. It cannot represent a business or any entity beyond a single person. That said, if you will agree to restrict access to the account to Nicola Rose, and agree to an indefinite topic ban from any pages or templates related to yourself or your work broadly construed, I would agree to unblock you. I will also add an exception where you could suggest edits related to yourself or your work on talk pages. But you would not be allowed to actually make any yourself. -Ad Orientem (talk) 01:40, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. That's all fine. Nrdirects (talk) 01:42, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You have been unblocked. -Ad Orientem (talk) 01:52, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of Topic Ban

Per your agreement as a condition for being unblocked; this is to advise you that you are indefinitely topic banned from making any edits related to Nicola Rose, their works, life, career etc, broadly construed. You may however make requests for edits on this topic on appropriate talk pages. This editing restriction is indefinite and any violation may result in immediate sanctions from any uninvolved administrator. You may request modification or lifting of this editing restriction either from myself or the community at WP:AN. These restrictions are being logged at WP:EDR. Beyond the aforementioned restrictions, you are free to edit anywhere on the encyclopedia subject to the policies and guidelines of the community. I will add a template below to help you get started. Lastly, you are free to remove this notice and the old block template and unblock request from your talk page should you so desire. However the restrictions remain in effect until/unless you are informed by an administrator that they have been modified or removed. Happy editing. -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:04, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
