Pronunciation
editEtymology 1
editFrom Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (böyle), which is attested in the XIVth-century Anatolian epic Danishmendnâme. Origination from merging of bu (“this”) and ile, ilə (“with”) (thus, from an expression that had the meaning with it) has been suggested.[1] Starostin et al. reject this with a reference to a proposed Proto-Turkic form *bEd-le,[2] which they reconstruct with the support of Karakhanid [script needed] (böyle),[3] Turkish böyle, Turkmen beýle, Azerbaijani belə and Salar bele, that is, based almost exclusively on Oghuz material.
