Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Actors and filmmakers

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Actors and filmmakers. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Actors and filmmakers|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Actors and filmmakers. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This article presents a number of issues. Firstly, it was originally created by a connected contributor (Wickedmagpie is the same name as a production company, Wicked Magpie productions, who worked with the subject on a local Chicago TV show she apparently presented). Secondly, the article contains unverifiable information, most notably her last name "Haydock" (I can find nothing whatsoever that mentions this as her name). Third, the article subject fails WP:BIO. The article as it stood a few minutes ago was puffed up with bare URLs to websites with no mention of her, the link in the article to Fox Sports is dead and I can find no evidence of it existing online. The link that purports to be to Men's Health is archived, but Internet Archive keeps timing out... additionally, I'm pretty certain www.mh.co.za is not the official Men's Health domain. I'm not really sure what is going on here. She is a real person, but I'm not sure this article is presented with verifiable facts. Even if the Men's Health link was correct, the title seems to indicate it was written by the subject herself, making it a Primary source. My WP:BEFORE has turned up no reliable sources. No evidence of any notability. Fails WP:GNG. There's hardly any reliable sources about this individual. I can only find her social media profiles, which fall under WP:SPS. Skitash (talk) 20:11, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Keep This is entirely false. First, I have provided numerous articles from major news outlets on the talk page of Karima Gouit [9]. Second, she is a popular public figure with almost 10 million combined followers across all her platforms. I have listed multiple sources on the talk page from outlets that are recognized as reliable for non-academic matters WP:GNG, such as Le360 and Actu-Maroc.
Here are a few examples for you, that are of her "amazigh" work, not anything more than that, exactly what Skitash has been avoiding leading to this:

and just one of the "many" relating to the subject of her talent show: https://ar.le360.ma/culture/189199/ , https://www.alaan.cc/article/73767/ and much much more in and outside these subjects.

More sources can easily be found if you search in French, Amazigh, or Arabic. This meets the criteria. Just because you couldn’t find much, I raised the matter of reworking the page to reflect her current popularity, as she is no longer mainly known for being a talent show contestant, but for her many songs and acting roles. These can be easily cited from the sites I mentioned. However, you dismissed it entirely, focusing solely on the argument over "NOT" including the translation of her name in Tamazight, which led you to try and remove her page, again, all because of the language she primarily speaks and uses in her songs. Still, I won't talk about your behavior on matters relating to this ethnic group wiki page as it's not of the subject. TahaKahi (talk) 06:18, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Weak Delete I don't think it's an slam-dunk delete as I think it's fairly close, but that's the side I fall on. TahaKahi, you have not helped the case for her article at all - things like social media follower numbers are not relevant and many of these sources are really fleeting mentions. And if you didn't want to talk about Skitash's "alleged" behavior, then you don't talk about it at all; making a point to announce that you're not going to talk about it is literally talking about it, and WP:ASPERSIONS are supposed to be avoided. I think you're a good faith editor, but I don't believe that you really grasp the objections that several people have brought up. Have you considered refocusing on Amazigh Wikipedia? It has fewer than 3,000 articles, so it sorely needs help more than English Wikipedia does. CoffeeCrumbs (talk) 09:05, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly, I’m not the most refined in writing in Tifinagh script, so I chose to focus on the English Wikipedia instead, as I major in English. My goal is to help refine a few subjects related to the Amazigh and revive the related WikiProject. As far as I see it, I will try to proceed more slowly with these topics, working carefully to ensure that everything is properly referenced from academic sources, especially when it comes to historical matters of the Amazigh.I’m currently working on a document to identify pages that are missing citations. I plan to rework these articles by adding proper citations, and once I feel it’s enough, I’ll begin drafting them. Unfortunately, I’ve been struggling with the Karima Gouit article, as, while she is popular, Maghrebi news outlets often write brief articles. Though such articles can be cited, they don’t always provide enough substantial information for a well-supported article.Beyond that, I’ve been trying to act in a more respectful manner and listen to the issues raised by Skitash. However, he has escalated a simple topic into a report on [10] and of course deletion of the page. This makes me feel that his behavior is not entirely in good faith. Nevertheless, I apologize if I come off as confrontational. It’s just confusing to me why this topic is being so overcomplicated for something so minor. TahaKahi (talk) 09:19, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not notable per WP:MUSICBIO, she released one EP which didn't chart, and I can't find significant coverage of her or the EP in reliable sources in English or Chinese. Not notable per WP:NACTOR, as her only lead role was in the film Dreamtrips, and I can't find SIGCOV of the film or her as an actress in reliable sources, apart from that it was screened at a notable festival. In the last AFD, two editors said that it was in the Hong Kong Film Archive, but I can't find it there when searching for 夢之旅. I couldn't find any coverage of her as a radio presenter, apart from sparse coverage that she won the RTHK disk jockey competition. She left show business in the 90s or 00s to become an architect, and I can't find SIGCOV of her per WP:NARCHITECT.

Editors searching for coverage that I missed, please note that there's an unrelated singer Jennifer Chan from Hong Kong at JC (singer), who debuted in 2016. There's also an unrelated American Jennifer Chan, who's been a TV presenter. Wikishovel (talk) 09:25, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. The subject passes Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Basic criteria, which says:

People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.

    • If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not usually sufficient to establish notability.

From Google Translate: After hosting two seasons of 'New Land MTV,' Jennifer Chan feels that her performance has gradually improved. However, she finds that compared to radio, the satisfaction from television is greater and the creative output is higher. Although Jennifer is satisfied with her performance in the 'New Land MTV' program, what she dislikes the most is her chubby face. It turns out that at a height of 5 feet 7 inches, she weighs 160 pounds, which explains why her boyfriend keeps urging her to actively lose weight. As everyone knows, Jennifer and Vivian Chow are very close friends and were often referred to as 'the chubby duo' back in their radio days. However, as time has passed, Vivian's weight has steadily decreased, while hers has increased. Now, besides asking Vivian for tips on hosting television shows, what she wants most is to get a complete set of weight loss secrets from her. Jennifer joked, 'My weight loss goal is 30 pounds!' Although Vivian's diverse career is gradually on track, Jennifer does not feel envious because she believes that diversified development must focus on personal potential. Just looking at Vivian Chow's slender figure and elegant appearance makes her feel that Vivian is already a step ahead."

She debuted around the same time as other notable figures like Vivian Chow and Wong Kai-kin. Later, she moved to New City Radio, and that's how I got to know Jennifer. However, she soon left Hong Kong to study in France, and there weren't many old colleagues who could keep in touch with her. During her time at the Hong Kong radio station, there were many rumors about her encountering supernatural events, but since she hadn't confirmed them herself, her experiences could only be relayed by others. Recently, I suddenly learned that Jennifer and another former colleague, Fang Ka-huang, started a YouTube channel primarily sharing their life experiences in France and the UK. From Google Translate: "Director: Ng Ka-long. This is a local independent film that premiered in 1999, starring Jennifer Chan and Kwok Wai-on. The director has conceived a Hong Kong-style sci-fi that resembles the milk tea served in tea restaurants. The story follows a heartbroken girl wandering in Toronto who uses a computer program called "Journey of Dreams" to enter a dream world in search of her runaway boyfriend. Many critics believe that the film integrates poetic imagery with urban architectural spaces, creating a form of spiritual reflection. It is a manifestation of infinite creativity born from technical and financial constraints."

There is sufficient coverage in reliable sources to allow Jennifer Chan (simplified Chinese: 陈汉诗; traditional Chinese: 陳漢詩) to pass Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, which requires "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject".

Semi-advertorialized article about a filmmaker, not properly referencing any strong claim to passing inclusion criteria for filmmakers. The attempted notability claim here is that his work exists, which is not an automatic notability freebie in and of itself -- we would need to see some evidence of distinction, such as notable awards and/or WP:GNG-worthy coverage and analysis about him and his work in media and/or books. But this is referenced entirely to primary sources self-published by people or organizations directly affiliated with the statements they're referencing, which is not support for notability, and the article claims absolutely nothing about him that would be "inherently" notable without better sourcing for it than this.
Further, there are no inbound links here from any other page in Wikipedia but the disambiguation page at Bob Connolly, and this appears to be a conflict of interest as the creator (who created it in 2013 and has occasionally returned to edit the article as recently as August 2024) appears to have self-identified as Bob Connolly in past posts to Talk:Lee Aaron, but even people who do properly pass our notability and sourcing standards still aren't entitled to write or curate their own articles themselves. I also don't see articles about the subject since the previous AfD that would add to coverage such to satisfy N. Bobby Cohn (talk) 16:02, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not notable either per WP:NACTOR or WP:SINGER. An earlier version of the article falsely claimed that he has received the State Nihol Award. It's not a state award, nor does the cited (and unreliable) source mention anything about any award. Furthermore, the sources cited in the entry entirely lack WP:RELIABILITY.

  • Kun: an interview with the subject of the entry.
  • Malumot: a Wordpress blog (with an incorrectly spelled name).
  • Savol-javob: another Wordpress blog with no credible standing.
  • Daryo: another interview with the subject of the article.
  • Uzmedia: a highly unreliable entertainment blog.

Lastly, it is worth noting that his entry has also been proposed for deletion on the Uzbek Wikipedia. Nataev talk 15:50, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Non notable individual. Not as a producer or as a "crack-dealing mogul" (as called by Daily Beast, ref 10, content noticeably absent from the page). Refbombed spam that screams of UPE. Fails WP:NLIST and is basically a WP:CFORK of characters already listed in Bulbulay main Wikipedia page. Only three characters are sourced and the references do not match the description provided (I will stop short of saying they are WP:FAKEREF). I would normally recommend a redirect as an WP:ATD but do not believe one would be needed here. CNMall41 (talk) 02:46, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This source assessment table is based on this version of the article: [14]. References were added to the article while I was assessing the sources, and I revised the table. The addition of more sources was not material.
As noted above, there is an extensive history, which includes previous versions of articles on the subject, as well as redirects, and an article about a fictional person. This article should be cut down to a redirect. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:49, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
User:Robert McClenon: I'm sorry, but I don't think this reflects the reality of some of the sources in the article. Comments below.
1. Agreed.
2. Mostly an interview, but also covers other material, which I'd argue is secondary. Described above.
3. No, the wiki link follows the norm for how we cover press material, same as other sources in the article – the name of the publication is linked. Not the name of the article, which is an offline source (or accessible though sv:Mediearkivet). Not all sources are online sources. This is nine pages in Dagens Industri, mostly but not only interview material. Described above. Can be checked by pretty much anyone with a Swedish university account (or access to Mediearkivet, provided to some editors by Wikimedia Sweden). As noted above, I've not been able to locate the online equivalent.
4. Agreed.
5. Disagree. Unlikely this is merely a press release, for four reasons: a) Unlike Cision, Dagens Media does produce journalism, which merits that we take a closer look; b) it's the same day as the press release in 4., but with different content, noting things which were not present in that press release c) it's signed (Eva Wisten), d) it contains material unlikely to have been in a press relase, such as noting that he'll "be on paternal leave and think". This reads like a reaction to the press release in 4., but someone actually having written an article based on other sources.
6. Definitely not. This is an article, takes up most of a page in the leading Swedish financial newspaper, and doesn't read at all like a press release to me. Why do you think it would be one?
7. Agreed.
8. Agreed.
9. Agreed.
10. Uncertain. Not terribly interesting as a source anyway.
11. Agreed.
12. Agreed.
13. Agreed.
14. (In the current version.) Missing. Added before this was posted, but after the assessment, I suppose.
Could you please explain your reasoning around 2, 3, 5 and 6? /Julle (talk) 02:36, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On ref 2 it does say the Pallas met him for conversation. I can't read it fully as paywalled, but it does look an interview. scope_creepTalk 06:47, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. "Much of this is interview material, but not all of it", I wrote above, and then "Mostly an interview, but also covers other material, which I'd argue is secondary" in the comment to the source assessment above. (: /Julle (talk) 11:12, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The other material is likely provided by the PR agency. It put the reference in the context of a interview and can't be used to prove notability. It not a valid. scope_creepTalk 13:51, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On Ref 5 it reads a profile generated from a press-release. That fact that its bylined doesnt add much to it. It reads like a 300 word profile and is not in-depth. scope_creepTalk 06:52, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Since we have a press release from exactly the same day (4.), that would mean that they'd sent out two different press releases on the same topic, with different information (since much of the background in 5. is missing in 4.). To me, that seems much more unlikely than a journalist taking a look at the press release in 4. and writing something based on other sources than the press release (since it contains information not in the press release in 4).
(It's still not a longer piece, no.) /Julle (talk) 11:14, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That looks and reads like conjecture, is not indepth and is not valid. scope_creepTalk 13:51, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On Ref 3. The reference format is fine. This is a financial paper similar to Bloomberg and the Financial Times. Its is likely paid PR. scope_creepTalk 06:55, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not intimately familiar with Bloomberg and the Financial Times, but this is the main article in this issue of the newspaper. I find it extremely unlikely that this would be paid PR, that's not how Dagens Industri works and they'd completely resign their position as the dominating financial newspaper in Sweden if they presented paid material as journalism. Why would we assume it's paid PR? /Julle (talk) 11:17, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because that is mechanism used to market themselves. Billionaires and millionaire are extraordinary secretive, they don't like their business dealing and their private lifes being made pubic, generally speaking. They build a public facade, their brand in the modern era using PR agencies so they are always shown in a good light. That is known thing. Lastly, its not necessarily paid material as journalism. You need to read up on it. All papers take the marketing dollar, more so since the coming of social media when it the industry was absolutely eviscerated, more or less right across the world from about 2007-2008. Its recovered now because many of them are behind paywalls and legislation that has come in to protect the industry but for many years, journalism as a practice was hit very badly. So the boundary between real journalism and all this other "crap" that came in was blurred and they used that money to effectively save their industry. Real journalism is making a return but for certain things like this, you don't know if its paid for. You really have to look, particularly for this type of source. So it could be potentially be a good reference right enough, but its hard to verify and I'm not confident considering the subject matter, that its not been paid for. scope_creepTalk 13:51, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The source analysis has been done and it has no real secondary coverage and interviews can't be used to establish notabilty. scope_creepTalk 11:44, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll address the point above later (the media archive I use to access the sources has been down for a couple of days, and I want to make sure I properly assess everything I say, and not argue to keep just because that's what my evaluating landed in above), but I'd like to point out that there's no agreement in the conversation above that we have a source analysis which reliably shows this. /Julle (talk) 18:26, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The subject fails to meet WP:GNG on their own merit and is only notable due to being the sister of a notable person, as evidenced by all available references primarily focusing on her relationship to her sister. And WP:INVALIDBIO explicitly state That person A has a relationship with well-known person B, such as being a spouse or child, is not a reason for a standalone article on A. Not notable per WP:NACTOR. He has not "had significant roles in multiple notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions." Furthermore, the sources cited in the entry lack WP:RELIABILITY.

  • Uz24: It is an online portal, as clearly stated on its about page and such is not a reputable source.
  • Qalampir: The article does not discuss Kayumov's work as an actor; instead, it focuses on his controversial calls for violence against women.
  • Sport.uz: This unreliable blog covers Kayumov's challenge to a Kazakh MMA fighter to face off in a cage match but does not substantiate his notability.
  • Hordiq: The article has been deleted.
  • Savol-javob: This is a Wordpress blog with no credible standing.
  • Malumot: Also a Wordpress blog (with an incorrectly spelled name).
  • Uz Daily: While potentially more reliable, this article raises suspicions of paid content, as it merely lists 15 trivia points without discussing his career in any detail.
  • Aniq.uz: This tabloid source reports on a video Kayumov made after allegedly being snubbed by Sitora Farmonova.
  • Yuz.uz: This entry appears to be an interview, also potentially paid content, discussing Kayumov's personal plans ("to take his parents on the Hajj pilgrimage and buy a new car for his dad") rather than his career.
  • Peoplenews: This online blog no longer has the entry about Kayumov available.

Additionally, Kayumov has publicly stated in a video podcast that he needed a Wikipedia entry to obtain a verified mark on his social media profiles. In the video, he states that he actively sought out local publications like Kun.uz to get articles written about him. He also mentions that in Uzbekistan, such publications can cost nearly 10,000 USD. He was negotiating to reduce this cost to 1,500-2,000 when the English Wikipedia entry was created – supposedly independently from his actions. Given that a flurry of articles were published right before his entry was created, I doubt he did not pay to have them published.

Lastly, it is worth noting that his entry has also been proposed for deletion on the Uzbek Wikipedia. Nataev talk 10:57, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
