Re: Edit Count

I saw this message on JJ's talk page. This does not include deleted edits. The edit counter via "My Preferences" does. I hope this answers your question. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 19:53, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Via "My Preferences" - yes. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 19:58, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: Hi

Well, hello RyRy. I'm good, how 'bout yourself? Listen, not to make a situating worse or anything, but what are your opinions on me running for Adminship? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 16:48, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

I know, like I said, I would spent equal time with wrestling articles and the recent changes patrol. And yes, I'm a female. Glad that Matt went onto explain that. ;) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 17:05, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Absolutely and thank you for your feedback on how I would be a good or bad Admin. ;) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 17:12, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
I'd be willing to answer any questions you have in mind and see if that can help me or not. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 17:18, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

I was trying to perform a history merge per your tag, but I can't find where this page was supposedly copied from. Cool Hand Luke 21:03, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

OK, no problem. Cool Hand Luke 21:11, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Your signature

Is too big. It breaks up the lines and spacing. Would you mind terribly making it a bit smaller? Thanks, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:08, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Appreciate it. Thanks for being cool about it. Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:13, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Just got your second message. I would recommend making it size=3 or less. Doesn't really need to be any bigger than that, does it? Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:14, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

No. Considering that the default size is "1", and it isn't hard to read, all you're really doing is drawing unnecessary attention to yourself. I honestly recommend a "2", but a "3" is fine as it doesn't break up line spacing on most monitors. Thanks RyRy, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:19, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Why is your signature size such a big deal to you? I don't know if it can be made 3.5. Who cares? We're here to write an encyclopedia, the best in the world! Who cares how big your signature is? Colors are fine, I use them too. Why do you need yours to be bigger than everyone elses? I don't get it. Sorry if I'm sounding a bit cross, I just have other things i'd rather be doing. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:31, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

You need to change your entire signature to be less than 4, (the "talk" in your signature is still too big). Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:39, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

"nomination for deletion" tags

Please don't remove the TfD tag until the debate is closed, thanks. Once the debate is closed, is the decision is to keep the template, then the tag is deleted and a different notice that says "this article was nomination for deletion on such date and the decision was keep" is placed on the talk page. That tag links to the closed debate so other people will be able to read it. --Enric Naval (talk) 22:08, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

You mean that you thought that it was a speedy deletion tag :) Yeah, there are tons of tags and it takes a while to distinguish them, don't worry. About your name, it's just a little too tall because it causes lines to get a bit more separated than normal. Maybe 4 pixels shorter. You can make it wider to compensate, since a wider name causes no problems. --Enric Naval (talk) 22:20, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Ah, you are right, you can't reduce a typeface the way I'm saying. You need to use css, like this abc. It's explained here, for example [1], or if you like reading documentation, here [2]. There is a ton of documentation about this on the internets. Another option is making your signature to be an image, and then you can make the letters exactly in a certain way using an image editing program like Photoshop or similar --Enric Naval (talk) 22:42, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Rivers

The problem of notability of rivers has been discussed and a decision has been taken. I have difficulties in understanding why you have singled out one river which is part of a project covering nearly 20,000 rivers. Afil (talk) 22:32, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Oh, that's fine. At least you gave your opinion. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 00:07, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Personal opinion from myself:

  • Wait a few months.
  • Write some good articles.
  • Get an admin coach.

Most RFA !voters want a user to be active for about 4 months before becoming an admin. If you still want to run, go for it. Just know that some people may oppose you for time period alone. Malinaccier (talk) 00:23, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

The template looks great! STORMTRACKER 94 Go Irish! 00:26, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

An admin coach will help you prepare for an RFA by teaching you policy and other things needed in an administrator. Most use question/answer situations to discover your weaknesses and rectify them. I would coach you myself, but I'm currently coaching three others right now =). You can request a coach at WP:ADCO. Malinaccier (talk) 00:34, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

'purveyor' deleted message

Hello!

I see that you've requested that the article I just created on 'purveyor ' be speedily deleted. I was reading the Miguel de Cervantes article, and came across the word. Thinking that most people may not know what it means (including me), I created a page for it.

I would leave the page and wait for people to add to it and discuss the various roles of purveyors, such as the positions in the royal household and navy. I think this would be better than simply deleting it. I find that people are much more likely to add to an article than create one.

However, if you think it should be deleted, fine. Just change the link on the Cervantes page to go to the dictionary instead.

Sigh, I guess I'm ok with you giving out graduate diplommas for your program, or awards, whatever the name. I'd prefer that people used the existing one, but, oh well, if people want to use yours.... Just try to remember that the main goal of wikipedia is making and improving articles (after seeing the tiptoey's page) lol, are you creating a para-wikipedia or what :D --Enric Naval (talk) 19:42, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, no worries, I'm from the "old school" and I need a bit of getting used to this new fangled userspace stuff --Enric Naval (talk) 19:46, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
I think I can already do by myself, thanks :D Except for the +2000 contribs (I have about 1000) and actually pasing the tests, I think that I would already qualify as graduated (do I really need 2000 edits to consider myself graduated on wikipedianism???) --Enric Naval (talk) 19:56, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Nah, I just edit when I feel like it, and randomly pick stuff to edit depending on the day and my watchlist. I don't want to bind myself to a graduate program, when I can learn myself at my own pace --Enric Naval (talk) 20:03, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Adminship

Remembering that you wish to become an administrator, here are two things that I noticed you should do (off the top of my head):

  • Enable email in your preferences
  • Edit in the mainspace
    • Try using this. Lot's of articles need simple fixes that can be found in this.

I just thought of these things and decided to come to you because of your aspirations. Cheers, Malinaccier (talk) 23:19, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Email is needed for blocked users to contact administrators, and for other private matters that need attention for admins, and mainspace edits are those made to normal articles, such as "Boston" while projectspace edits are those made to pages like "Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Today." The prefix Wikipedia: designates that it is the projectspace. You can see a breakdown of where your edits lie here. Hope that helps, Malinaccier (talk) 00:03, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes I do have the rollback feature, can I please help out in your program. I have some good ideas for it. AndreNatas (talk) 17:18, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

I have chose to wait a long time and not go up for RFA straight away so I can have confidence in not failing first time, I am not ready yet, but I do not want to be your adoptee sorry. It is editing duration that counts, not edit count. AndreNatas (talk) 17:23, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

RE:Invite

Sorry, Im going to have to decline for a couple reasons. First and foremost, I support another team, although I do root for the Sox when they play the Yanks :-) Also, I already have a lot on my plate and I am focusing my efforts on WP:PACKERS. The reason I edited the project was because Milks Favorite Cookie used the layout of WP:PACKERS for the new Sox layout, and although I got the basic layout from another project, I have refined and done a lot of work, and the layout needed to be fixed for WP:SOX to make some links work and to add better colors that fit the team better. If you guys have any questions on the WikiProject in general though, I would be glad to help. I have learned a lot from getting WP:PACKERS from this to this :-) Thanks for the invite though! socks have to be identified clearly

You, yes you, you are not aware of WP:SOCK, I see.

Now, go read Wikipedia:SOCK#Alternative_account_notification and then go to User:SoxAward4 and identify that account as your sock as specified there, and then identify on your user page that you have socks, like specified on the same page. Either that or stop using that alternative account. I don't care if says "it is recommended" because you are treating him as if he was a separate person (he's not a separate person, I can see the gap on your contribution history when you go to create the account and make a few edits and then go back to your account to keep editing), adding him to the same project as you, treating him a new member as if he was a separate person, etc., so you *need* to make this clear now or drop it altogether.

What are you doing still reading this? Go read WP:SOCK, come on, you still need to read a few policies more before you can successfully pass a RfA. One day you will be need to give this sort of warnign to someone and you need to know the policies :D --Enric Naval (talk) 20:37, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Don't you worry, you just didn't know about the policy --Enric Naval (talk) 20:54, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Look at WP:ROOMMATE (it's just a redirect to a section of WP:SOCK), it explains on what situations you should disclose a relationship. You are participating on the same project, so you should probably disclose it. --Enric Naval (talk) 21:11, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, you can do that too. --Enric Naval (talk) 21:23, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, if you don't edit in the same areas, then you don't need to disclose anything. --Enric Naval (talk) 21:37, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Hehe, if you are using the same internet connection, you will still have the same problem. And if you are relatives, then you *still* have the problem, even if you are on very distant places, since the connection between the two accounts still exists --Enric Naval (talk) 21:42, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, you can have an account just for giving awards and stuff, as long as you identify it clearly. There are admins that have this sort of account for editing from unsafe computers, operating bots, etc. --Enric Naval (talk) 21:56, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
In Wikipedia:SOCK#Alternative_account_notification it says what templates you need to put on both your account and the alternative account --Enric Naval (talk) 22:03, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Prisoner Ball

Could use a cleanup. Its good for the first article you ever created. I created my first article all the way back Summer 2007. And guess what? It got Speedy deleted. That article you created is a keeper, but then again, could use a reference cleanup. See WP:REF. Nothing444 20:39, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

I plan on graduating in a month, when I'll get a rollback. After that, I'll adopt a few users. I know you are good with adoption, so after I graduate, can you refer some users to me? Nothing444 20:43, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

no need to comment about vandalism

You don't need to leave a message when you revert random vandalism [3], vandalism on articles happens every day and you just make a little comment after the edit summary that is generated automatically. Vandalism is best reverted and ignored.

If you are reverting a page that is located on userspace, then you can consider leaving a message on the talk page of the user that the page belongs to.

If you see persistent vandalism, *and* it is oriented to push a POV on an article, harass an user, disrup an article, etc., then you can consider talking about it. Otherwise, just leave warnings on the vandal page, being careful to start with low level warnings and going up if the vangal persists. If a vandal persists after you give th highest level warning, then go to WP:VIP and follow the instructions there. But don't post about the vandalism itself unless necessary, since this only enocurages the vandals. --Enric Naval (talk) 20:50, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, you're allowed to have as many co-noms as you like. However (I absolutely hate this), sometimes when you have several co-noms (usually more than five or so), people will oppose because of too many co-noms. Three sounds perfectly fine.   jj137 (talk) 21:49, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Your reversion of my deletion of a blog entry from the external links of Noble Eightfold Path

Howdy,

I'm wondering why you've reverted my deletion of a newly added external link to a blog on Noble Eightfold Path. As indicated in my edit summary, I deleted it per WP:ELNO #11 -- in addition to the blog's essentially simply rehashing what was already on Noble Eightfold Path itself (just check the blog's end notes). You did not provide any reason for reverting my edit. (In addition, I was following up on a prior deletion by the regular WP Buddhism contributor User:Tdudkowski of a previous attempt to incorporate material from this blog into Noble Eightfold Path.)

Thanks for any help with resolving this matter in a thoughtful manner.
Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 01:30, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Since you've made a number of edits on other matters without addressing the above, I've moved the matter to the article's talk page at Talk:Noble_Eightfold_Path#Addition_of_personal_blog_to_.22External_links.22_section. I respect your choice to be silent on this matter although would still welcome your rationale. May you be well, Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 18:47, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Bot

I don't think I can create it for you. Of course, I can help you create it; I'm not sure about your idea, though: vandalism seldom lasts longer than five minutes, and I don't think there's a way to automatically send any vandalism to you. If you have any other ideas, I'd be willing to give it a try.   jj137 (talk) 02:24, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, yes. Do you use your watchlist often?   jj137 (talk) 02:37, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
You can find and watchlist several pages that frequently receive vandalism (such as George W. Bush or User:Jimbo Wales). There's a great vandalism reverting application called Huggle, which I use pretty often.   jj137 (talk) 02:41, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
I can't remember what the name of the page is either. And no, you don't have to do anything there, I removed you from the list.   jj137 (talk) 02:48, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Los Angeles Angels

Is there any sort of template to go on talk pages to signify that it is a part of this project? I was going to create one based on Wikipedia:WikiProject Boston Red Sox, but I got too confused with the code. Also, shouldn't the project be named Wikipedia:WikiProject Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, simply because that's the team's official media name? Ksy92003 (talk) 03:55, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

I have created the userbox for the project members, based on the code for {{User WPBoston Red Sox}}. Here it is, at {{User Los Angeles Angels}}:
This user is a participant in WikiProject Los Angeles Angels.
I'll start doing what I can to get the project going, including inviting other users and doing whatever I can in the short time I have. Ksy92003 (talk) 06:27, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
What is the template page for the Red Sox barnstar? Because I'm having some difficulty locating it. Ksy92003 (talk) 06:44, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Never mind, I found it. It was just a capitalization error from where I copied the title. Ksy92003 (talk) 06:46, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Did I not? Could've sworn I did... sorry. I added it back in. It's past midnight where I am in Arizona, and the desert air must be getting to me :) This is the only reason I'm still up in the first place. Ksy92003 (talk) 07:20, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
I'll add the code to that little portion on the project's home page momentarily. It's very similar to the one for the Red Sox project. Ksy92003 (talk) 07:32, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
I've been adding {{WikiProject Los Angeles Angels}} to several articles' talk pages, but it looks weird because it doesn't collapse like the others (see Talk:Luis Alicea, for example). Do you know how to fix the code in the template so that it collapses like that? Ksy92003 (talk) 07:43, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Also, do you know how to create Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Los Angeles Angels articles by quality statistics in the same format of Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Boston Red Sox articles by quality statistics? Ksy92003 (talk) 15:30, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Shoo

I was nice previously, however now I am irritated. The majority of your "2000+" edits are made to your OWN pages. These are not exactly contributative edits. I do not want you as my adopter. Infact, I removed the adopt me template due to this. Please, take the hint!! Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 10:38, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

I do not know what you are inferring in that last sentence. If you mean to say that you are planning on taking retaliation against me for not wanting you to adopt me, then that needs to be brought to an admin's attention. I hope you are not insinuating that you plan to make my life here hell. Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 16:48, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
FYI, I have brought this conversation to the attention of an admin. I do not take threats lightly. I realize you have redacted what you wrote on my page, however I need to ensure that that sentence is seen by other admins who might take notice of your RfA should you apply for one. Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 16:59, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
RyRy5, you need to be careful about what you say. This comment [4] which I gather you only meant to imply that you could be a mentor if or when you become an admin, could easily be interpreted on its face as threatening retaliation. That's how I saw it too. Being an admin is an important responsibility, and often a drudgerous one from what I've observed, so be careful what you wish for. And comments like that could come back to haunt you, if and when you try to gain adminship. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 17:42, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Adoption program

Well, firstly, thanks for the barnstar. :) I like the idea of that page. One thing I might change is the whole "greatly improve an article" thing: yes, it would be great, but not everyone likes to expand articles; some people spend a lot of time reverting vandalism, some at AFD, etc. (You don't have to change it, of course, just a suggestion.) Adoption has a lot to do with "learning the ropes" of Wikipedia. With your adoptees, try to teach them about many different areas so they will be familiar with many things. Oh, I'm sure you'll do well. :)   jj137 (talk) 20:00, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Not an admin

Nor would I want to be. It's a job consisting mostly of looking for vandalism and other such drudgerous stuff. I do enough of that as it is. I would not run for admin, and if elected, I would not serve. :) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 21:19, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Comment

Hi there, RyRy.

A conversation here to which you were a party has been brought to my attention. I gather your intent was only to say that you believed that you could be an effective mentor as an admin, but I want you to know that you really need to be careful about how you say things. I think it's also best that you disengage from conversation with User:Queerbubbles unless there's something fairly critical that you must bring up.

It's clear from that conversation that you have probably crossed a line and that Queerbubbles would prefer not to have interaction with you. Just as in the offline world, there are people with whom we don't always get along online, and in this case I think that's precisely what the problem is.

I strongly encourage you to disengage from Queerbubbles. - Philippe | Talk 22:08, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Having looked at this (because you are watchlisted for a separate issue), I agree with Philippe here. Thanks, RR5, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 22:10, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
No need to ask forgiveness from me, I'm just offering you advice from a Wikipedia "old-hand". As I told Queerbubbles, I think you're just being pretty enthusiastic. While I admire your enthusiasm, I really wish we could find a way to direct it towards improving the wikipedia rather than focusing on your admin program or user-space stuff. I'm glad to see you reverting vandalism, because that's really important. I hope you'll do more of that in the future. - Philippe | Talk 22:21, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I didn't think you meant to imply any threat, but we tend to take that sort of thing very seriously, so I wanted to be sure. I'm more concerned that everyone feels like they have a comfortable environment in which to edit, and it's clear that Queerbubbles wasn't comfortable with your communication. I'm glad you see the wisdom of backing off there. I hope you won't feel like you need to ask Queerbubbles to participate again (it sounds like you agree with me).
Can I ask why you think you might want to become an admin? I can tell you for sure that the best way to become an admin is to be a really good article editor. Vandalism familiarity is important, but it's more important that an admin understand the editing process and the decisions that go into making articles really good. - Philippe | Talk 22:31, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, being an admin doesn't mean that you can help teach more people about wikipedia. In fact, it often means you have LESS time to do things like that. I really think that the best thing you can do right now - while learning more about how to maybe some day be an admin - is to focus more of your attention on the mainspace (articles) and less on the userspace (social/personal pages). Unless you can demonstrate your ability as an editor, it can be very difficult to pass an RfA. More and more, people want admins who focus on writing. My advice to you is to focus on that: pick six or eight articles that you really know a lot about or are willing to put a lot of attention into and make them the best that they can be (always using the article talk page as a staging area, of course). Otherwise, you'll have a hard time passing RfA. - Philippe | Talk 22:49, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
From an outsider's perspective, this whole thing was pretty silly. RyRy clearly wasn't threatening anyone, from my point of view. He simply meant that he wouldn't bring up adoption again to this user until he became an administrator. Enigma msg! 23:00, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
uhm... two users who have been around for a while (both admins) - both also "outsiders" left comments suggesting that he back off. I still believe it's good advice. I also consider the matter closed at this point, unless RyRy thinks that more clarification is necessary. - Philippe | Talk 14:09, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Adoption Program

Hello RyRy5. I've looked at your user profile and adoption program page, and I would like you to teach me the ropes. I like the idea of being tested as well. I have no idea where to go from here, will we always just communicate through the talk pages? I look forward to seeing what I can learn from you! As for this signature thing I see what the sandbox is for =P Axecution (talk) 05:57, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

This is a good program you have going on. I have a few questions. Am I able to view subpages or do I just have to know they exist? For example the Adoptee_Tests on my user page, if somebody creates a page under my name will I be able to find out about it? I'm wondering how you set your signature to different font colors while using the four ~'s. I'm done with the test too, but where should I post the answers for that? Axecution (talk) 02:16, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello RyRy5

Moved from User page

Thanks, my mistake, 'twas meant to be {{numtext/8th}}, {{numtext/12th}} ... Jɪmp 08:16, 25 March 2008 (UTC) ... no it was in the template space. I'd done that before, put a subtemplate in the article space by mistake. Yes, these are small and insignificant by themselves but should be taken in context e.g. {{numtext|10}} → ten [5]. Jɪmp 08:20, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

No, not that new and don't really deserve any break. Don't know how I ended up in the wrong location ... three times ... thanks for tidying up. Jɪmp 08:29, 25 March 2008 (UTC) ... Thank for the biscuits anyhow ... Jɪmp 08:30, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

I had more of a user page a while ago but I periodically get board of it and achive it with the talk page. As for barnstars ... dunno maybe I haven't earnt more than three. Jɪmp 08:35, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Kinda empty ... but it certainly ain't lonely. It's {{numtext}} I'm rewriting. It seems that a subtemplate approach far outstrips a {{#switch:}} in keeping beneath template limits. I'm creating a whole array of these. It's been good to meet you, RyRy5, I'm going to have to get going soon, though, so I'll catch you round. Jɪmp 08:50, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Have a good one. Jɪmp 08:57, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Please repost up my page on "John Capodilupo." There is no harm being done, only the simple statements of his achievements. I don't see a problem with that. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nolookpass26 (talkcontribs) 16:24, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
