Hello, I'm BilCat. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Pilatus PC-9, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. BilCat (talk) 01:43, 20 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi BilCat,
The corrections made to the PC-9 article were made to clarify the paragraph as it doesn't make sense without the clarification. The clarification is based on the same story more succinctly written about the F-15 aircraft activity during the gulf war.
I don't think my changes materially changed the information on the PC-9 but did clarify what happened on that day.
How do I source the PC-9 corrections based the information from the F-15 article? Robjohn2011 (talk) 04:00, 26 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Willa Holland edit

edit

I have reverted your addition of an unsourced date of birth to Willa Holland. In addition to Wikipedia's basic principle of citing sources (Wikipedia:Citing sources), a special need for citations applies with regard to elements of a biography of a living person (WP:BLPPRIVACY). Feel free to add a date of birth when it is accompanied by a citation to a reliable, published, non-primary source. Eddie Blick (talk) 00:20, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Teblick,
Sorry for the lack of reference. Is IMDb considered a reliable source? IMDb (along with a myriad of other web sources) are carrying the June 18, 1991 date as Willa's birthday. Granted, a wrong date propagated by all the sites doesn't make it guaranteed correct, but you'd think it's probably more correct than (1991/1992). Maybe it can be winnowed down to just 1991? Additionally, I just read the article referenced in note for her age (1991/1992) and it doesn't appear there is anything that equates to a birth date resolving to 1991/1992. However, unless her birthday is in the first 19 days of January, a 14 year old girl having a published article about her on January 19, 2006 would have a birthday in 1991. I just saw both of your replies, so let me respond to each of them here.
  • IMDb is not considered a reliable source because is user-generated (meaning that users can add and edit content at will). You can read comments about IMDb at WP:IMDB. You might also want to read WP:USERGENERATED to see names of some other sources that are not reliable for the same reason.
  • The "1991/1992" that you see in the lead of Willa Holland is generated by the "Birth based on age as of date" template. The template contains parameters for the date of publication of the cited source and the person's age as stated in the source. The template then produces a "yearX/yearY" format for years of birth. Age (in age1/age2) form (as shown in the infobox) can be generated by removing another parameter.
The top of the cited article shows "Published on January 19, 2006" and "Age: 14". Putting that date and that age in the template produces the results that you see in the article. If you would like to read more about that template, you can go to Template:Birth based on age as of date.
  • Regarding your comment, "However, unless her birthday is in the first 19 days of January, a 14 year old girl having a published article about her on January 19, 2006 would have a birthday in 1991." Even if probabilities favor 1991 as the correct year, we have no basis for assuming that and ignoring the possibility that 1992 is correct.
