AfD nomination of Adrián Gabbarini

edit

An editor has nominated Adrián Gabbarini, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Adrián Gabbarini and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 15:59, 11 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Usiminas

edit

A tag has been placed on Usiminas, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read our the guidelines on spam as well as the Wikipedia:Business' FAQ for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ukexpat (talk) 16:26, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Kenneth Kronholm

edit

I know, the english Wikipedia is satisfied by having such (non-)articles, but I'm not. Espeacially if you include several mistakes to a single sentence and an infobox: Kronholm was neither born in Germany nor is he German only. But that's something that takes serious investigation to find out. Obviously not your favourite kind of work. --78.55.115.192 (talk) 16:52, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

If you'd taken a short look at german wikipedia you could have included much more (accurate) informations than by looking at those (mostly incorrect) profiles at transfermarkt.de. Alternatevily: have a simple look a the Hansa website. This way you'll find out the players places of birth at last. --78.48.103.92 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 15:03, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Faidherbestamp.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Faidherbestamp.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:08, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

question about templates

edit

Hi, Mario. I'm a new user you welcomed on January 28. I have a question for you. I want to put a bunch of templates on my user page (or a subpage) that I think I will use frequently for tagging pages (like cleanup needed). Is there a way to do that without adding my user page to the category that the template assigns? Substituting doesn't seem to be a good option, because I do want to see the current text of the template. Thanks for any help! Libcub (talk) 01:39, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:VedereAerianSaint_Louis.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 02:17, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Elman Abdurrahmanov

edit

A tag has been placed on Elman Abdurrahmanov requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I request this unblock because i know that what i did was wrong and my attitude was incorrect expecially regarding other wikipedians but in recent weeks i observed that other users keep adding PROD tags to articles that i have created or contributed in an attempt of massive deletion (expecially my football players articles). I please urge you to reconsider my block because i would like to defend myself against other users that try to ulcer my origins. I would not support an unblock of this user because of his uncooperative attitude, demonstrated by the fact that he repeatedly deleted requests and advice on his talk page (to make sure his articles met notability standards, categorise & index things properly, stop making up information and to use more than one source) and carried on in the same manner. Not to mention the obvious sockpuppet abuse.
If he is unblocked I would argue that it should be on the condition that he gives a firm guarantee that he will go back through all the football player articles he has created and make sure that they both assert and display notability, add all the information he couldn't be bothered to type out in the first place and remove all false information. So that they stop producing reactions like this I know, the english Wikipedia is satisfied by having such (non-)articles, but I'm not. Espeacially if you include several mistakes to a single sentence and an infobox: Kronholm was neither born in Germany nor is he German only. But that's something that takes serious investigation to find out. Obviously not your favourite kind of work. 78.55.115.192 when people come across them. (he deleted this from his talkpage).
There is still a vast backlog of players to be verified and brought up to standard here and very few editors can be bothered to verify, fix or update them, having no interest in minor footballers from Azerbaijan, Ablania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Serbia, Ukraine etc. It damages English Wikipedia's reputation that it continues to carry inaccurate, misleading and incomplete articles about often non-notable footballers. English peasant 09:54, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't know why you consider footballers from Azerbaijan, Ablania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Serbia, Ukraine etc. "minor" are they not football players aswell? So what if they come from non-traditional football countries. You should know that Ukraine is considered to have a good national football team (check out the FIFA ranking), and that Dynamo Kyiv has won twelve league titles, nine Ukrainian Cups, one UEFA Super Cup and two UEFA Cup Winners' Cups. They have also won 13 USSR Championships, 9 USSR Cups, and 3 USSR Super Cups.
Serbian football is also notable, Red Star Belgrade are the only Serbian club to have won a UEFA competition, having been victorious in the 1991 European Cup final. Mario1987 17:51, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I am clearly not saying all footballers from those countries are minor, but if you create an article for every single player at a particular team without doing any basic research about appearance data and career history, (as was your methodology) you are bound to create articles on lots of minor players. The stubs you have made very rarely made any distinction between the established international players and teenagers that have never even played at professional level. If the player has made an international appearance then article should say so and if the player has never even crossed the white line, then he is non notable and shouldn't even have an article. A player like Serhiy Zakarlyuka is definitely notable as a footballer and as an Athlete, not because "Dynamo Kyiv has won twelve league titles" but because he himself has played 9 times for the Ukraine national football team and made over 200 professional appearances in a career which began in season 1993-94. All of which was omitted in the article you created, because of your rush to make a huge list of football articles. According to the article you created, his career started in 2007 at the age of ~31, no international stats, no club stats, which is totally misleading. As for the non-notable players around 20 of your articles have already been deleted because they do not meet Wikipedia's fairly soft inclusion criteria and only 11 of the 50 different nationalities in your list have been checked for notability suggesting that you could have created another 80 odd non-notable player articles. Many of the ones that have survived such as Jacobo Mansilla are incredibly borderline (1 substitute appearance in stoppage time in the last game of the season in a meaningless fixture), but perhaps he is not a minor footballer because Independiente has won 7 Copa Libertadores titles? Hi Mario. While you have a couple options at your disposal for dealing with repeated abuse, I'd like to suggest a few things first. While a personal attack is a very serious matter, I think it's important to note that English peasant has the best interest of the project at heart, and is simply trying to stay within the guidelines for notability and factual accuracy. While it could be argued that he does so with too much fervor, I believe there are alternatives to reporting him at this stage. One of his major issues was factual accuracy; What I would do in this circumstance is, instead of treating it as an attack against me, treat it as constructive criticism. If I were sure that my articles were factual, in spite of his claim to the contrary, the logical thing to do is reference them! I think in this manner you two could possibly play off each other to build up a strong stream of well referenced articles.
Another major complaint of his is notability. I personally see people who make complaints about the notability of articles as people dedicated to maintaining the quality of the encyclopaedia. When an article of yours goes up for deletion, I'd simply wait for the community decision. If your articles are truly notable, odds are that they shall remain in Wikipedia, as several of them already have. As for these percieved negative comments towards you, I'd suggest honestly to rise above it and ignore them. Try to avoid becoming personally affected and hostile yourself, and keep in mind that many people, including yourself, do questionable things with the quality of the project in mind.
If, after all this, you still feel it necessary to take further action, you have several options at your disposal, most of them within the dispute resolution process. Consider informal mediation or contacting a third party to give a hand. If an attack is extremely disruptive (such as a physical threat or whatever) you have the option of reporting the abuser to the administrator's noticeboard, but I would strongly advise against this as immediate fighting after the release of a ban is not going to look good for you, further, I don't think he really deserves to be reported in any way shape or form. If you're still interested, consider reading the no personal attacks policy, don't call the kettle black and assume good faith
Good luck! I hope you two can resolve your dispute peacefully and work together to build strong football articles, something you both obviously want to do!--Liempt (talk) 20:36, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Footballer articles

edit

Hello. I've noticed that you have started many articles about footballers and wanted to see if I could help make them more complete. As others have said, there are footballers who have not yet played a match which probably don't need an article, so I would wait to create them until they have played. For footballers that have played, it is important to make sure the information is as correct as possible. One example is the career history in the infobox - if this only shows the most recent club for a player that has been at 5 or 6 clubs, it is misleading. I recommend using websites like www.eufo.de (european players), www.national-football-teams.com (national team players), and www.bdfa.com.ar (players from the americas) to help find the career history information. There are many other sources (some are listed at WP:FOOTY). Please let me know if I can help. Best regards. Jogurney (talk) 16:09, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I appreciate the friendly gesture. I have also noticed that you are at least trying to give accurate player details on the biographies you are creating. There are still improvements you could make, like including club categories and ensuring that all wikilinks lead to the right place. It would also be good if you could help to update some of the player statistics, lots of people make football articles, very few people ever update them.
