edit

Audi R8 central console

In year 2010 Audi introduced updated version of RNS-E. Although it looks almost the same as previous, it features some big and small hardware changes:

  • Higher resolution LCD screen, 800px by 480px resolution
  • SDHC cards support
  • Chrome control knobs
  • MEDIA button instead of CD/TV and SD/TV button.

Special version was made for Audi R8 to fit in narrow central console of the car. Buttons and control knobs were moved under the screen.

User interface

Audi decided to copy Multi Media Interface look and feel. Thanks to this unification switching between both systems was seamless for end user. Both systems display the same name at startup which resulted in some confusion.
RNS-E can be also controlled using multi function steering wheel buttons and Speech Dialogue System. DIS display in the instrument cluster is supported for route guidance and media source names.

Software updates

edit

Available for car owner and distributed on navigation DVDs. Support ended at software version 0650.

Hidden menu

edit

Hidden menu (a.k.a. Engineering Mode) gives access to diagnostic data.[1] This menu most likely was used for stability tests and bug fixes while developing software and hardware.
