Page merger
editI just tagged Texas–Pan American Broncs men's basketball to be merged into this article. The University of Texas System announced in the summer of 2014 that the UTPA athletic program would be converted into that of UTRGV once UTPA and UT Brownsville merged in 2015 (unfortunately, the UT System has killed the Q&A page for the merger that explicitly stated this). UTRGV also maintained UTPA's WAC membership. — Dale Arnett (talk) 05:27, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

Texas–Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's basketball → UTRGV Vaqueros men's basketball – The official athletics website uses UTRGV when referring to the name of the teams. It is also on their jerseys. They use the same abbreviation style as UTSA and UTEP, not Texas-Arlington. AquilaXIII (talk) 20:08, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose – Texas–Rio Grande Valley is the WP:COMMONNAME, not UTRGV. We don't go by the school's branding just because that is what they [want to] use, we use the common name. ESPN spells it out, the NCAA spells it out, CBS spells it out, Fox Sports spells it out... do I need to go any further? Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 07:26, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose No one knows what "UTRVG" is at this point. Right now the major sports sites like ESPN and CBSSports don't use it for that reason. Someday that might "take" like USC or BYU, but December 3, 2016 is not that day. Rikster2 (talk) 21:34, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
