Inconsistency...
editFrom the page on flax (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flax#Preparation_for_spinning): "In field retting, the flax is laid out in a large field, and dew is allowed to collect on it. This process normally takes a month or more, but is generally considered to provide the highest quality flax fibers, and it produces the least pollution."
On this page: "Dew-retted fibre is generally darker in color and of poorer quality than water-retted fibre."
It's noticeable that the flax page provides a reference and this one doesn't, but there are potential complexities.
