Loh Kah Seng's "Squatters into Citizens" book as a source.
editCurrently this book is heavily referenced, but I note that many of the points added and sourced to the book are taking isolated quotes from singular persons and using it to paint generic statements. Case in point: The line about people fearing arrests being a factor of reluctance to discuss the arson theory was actually made by an interviewee about another fire different from that of the article, and the parts preceding and proceeding it actually does dismiss the rumours as wild talk, which is painting an uneven picture. - Thank you for your comments regarding this issue. To address your point about this article being heavily referenced to the book, I would say that I have little choice as this event is not widely covered by other scholarly literature works. Please do add any additional useful and reliable reference that you know of. Regarding the contention about rumours of the cause of the fire, the book does not use only 1 interviewee, but multiple ones. My intention wasnt to use Ms Chong's interview; it was a summary of what was said in the second paragraph on page 259 to the second paragraph on pg 260. To possibly balance this article further, I will add the part regarding "wild rumours". Cheers!--Lionratz (talk) 03:55, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
- I forgot to add that it is no point in speculating what the author's stance were in this book- the author himself said that he "was not interested to establish the “true” cause of the Fire." at a book event. source--Lionratz (talk) 04:04, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the updates. No worries. AS I said, I just wary of being over reliant on singular sources but as long as it is attributed it should be fine. Thanks for drawing my attention to the book, I absolutely agree that lack of alternative resources make this subject hard to write for. Zhanzhao (talk) 03:24, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
