editIn the Mithila region, there are two Kumarila Bhatta Dih located at Bhatsimar village in Madhubani district and Bhatpura village in Darbhanga district. According to legend, the Kumarila Bhatta Dih located at Bhatsimar village of Madhubani district is believed as the birthplace of the philosopher Kumarila Bhatta[1] and similarly the second Kumarila Bhatta Dih located at Bhatpura village of Darbhanga district is believed as the academy of Kumarila Bhatta where Indian philosopher Mandan Mishra was taught Mimansa Shastra.[2] Kumarila Bhatta is considered as one of the major icons in Hinduism during the 7th century CE who protected the Sanatana Dharma.[3][4] It is said that Kumarila Bhatta established four Vidyapeethas in the Mithila region. He himself was the Kulpati of these four Vidyapeethas. There was a large number of students at the Vidyapeethas in Bhatpura and Murukia villeges, so Kumarila Bhatta was mostly available there.[5]
