Taighde Éireann - Research Ireland is a statutory government body in Ireland, established on 1st August 2024 [1] as an agency of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.

The new research funding agency will promote and support the contribution of research and innovation to Ireland’s economic, social, cultural, and environmental development and sustainability. It will also strengthen collaboration between the research and innovation system and enterprises, government, public organisations, the voluntary sector, and society. [2]

Taighde Éireann - Research Ireland amalgamates the activities and functions of Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) and the Irish Research Council (IRC). [3]

The Research and Innovation Act 2024 was enacted in June 2024, and outlines the objectives and functions of Taighde Éireann – Research Ireland.

The board of Taighde Éireann - Research Ireland was appointed by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science. [4]
