International Business

La Cooperación Internacional juega un papel cada vez más importante en las dinámicas políticas y económicas de América Latina. El presente artículo muestra los hallazgos sobre las relaciones donante-receptor, en la gestión de la cooperación internacional en la ciudad de Medellín, respecto al periodo comprendido entre los años 2003 y 2008. A partir de un estudio minucioso de los contenidos de las entrevistas realizadas a los actores significativos de la cooperación internacional en la ciudad, se identifican los principales momentos que caracterizan y dinamizan dichas relaciones. Fundamentalmente encontramos que una buena gestión de la cooperación internacional debe considerar los siguientes momentos: la identificación de los socios y de las fuentes de cooperación internacional; la generación de confianza y credibilidad; la conformación de alianzas; la elaboración de planes y negociación y, finalmente, la relación ejecutor comunidad.

¿Qué relaciones pueden esbozarse entre administración y sabiduría? Los problemas contemporáneos (pobreza, desigualdad, corrupción, destrucción del medio ambiente...), nos indican que algunas de las prácticas y teorías de gestión no siempre resultan benéficas para la humanidad.
Buscando humanizar la gestión, rescatamos la noción de sabiduría y sus múltiples significados. Proponemos la adopción de un marco de análisis que permite introducir la sabiduría en distintas dimensiones de la administración. Para esbozar nexos, evocamos citaciones literarias que proporcionan formas novedosas de sensibilización y que admiten argumentar que en el ser humano y su vejez podemos descubrir fuentes de sabiduría que invitan a la acción.

With the purpose of crafting a coherent argument in favor of more business inclusiveness, this paper explores the convenience of a well- accepted model for Corporate Social Performance. After a detailed examination of all its parts, two ethical perspectives –utilitarianism and deontology- are adopted as prisms to evaluate the compatibility of the model with sound moral thinking. At the end, a model of ethical funneling is proposed as a means to enhance business inclusion and performance.

Expressing concern about every dimension of human welfare, this paper explores the possibility of enhancing integral development by means of potential synergetic connections between ethics and the postulates of social economy. Arguments about the importance of utopian and ethical thinking precede the case for a more comprehensive approach towards human development. The synergetic relationship among social economy, ethics, and integral development is based on the simultaneous articulation of ethical defi nitions, literature from the fi eld of social economy, and the ideas of the philosopher Ken Wilber. The article concludes with an exhortation to learn from the social economy as an inspiring mean to strive for the implementation of the ideals of ethics and integral development. Even though utopian, the big gap that separates us from a 'better world', makes compulsory the quest for virtuous paths.

La contextualización del conocimiento en administración implica el desarrollo de inteligencias versátiles, que le permitan al profesional de la administración darle sentido a la polivalencia de acepciones, orientar de manera pragmática su saber y fundamentar con propiedad su conocimiento. El análisis de discursos, la interpretación y formulación de historias y la adopción del pensamiento crítico, se proponen como áreas de estudio que permiten avanzar hacia la inteligencia en la teoría y la acción administrativa. Además de constituir objetivos de investigación relevantes en varios contextos, tales métodos pueden conjugarse con experiencias y actitud de servicio para franquear la ruptura entre las teorías y las prácticas administrativas, así como también para forjar nuevas interpretaciones de la realidad, fundamentadas en sólidos criterios epistemológicos. Abstract Contextualizing management knowledge implies the development of fluid intelligences that enable professional managers to give sense to polyvalent meanings, pragmatically orient her/his knowledge and solidly ground her/his understandings. Discourse analysis, story telling and interpretation, and critical thinking are proposed as study areas that enhance the intelligibility of administrative theory and deeds. Besides constituting relevant research objectives for several contexts, such methods can be mixed with service experiences and attitude that bridges the gap between management theories and actual practices, while forging new interpretations of reality, founded in solid epistemological criteria.

Diversas disfunciones de las sociedades contemporáneas se derivan de prácticas e ideas corto-placistas que prevalecen en la administración de las organizaciones modernas. Luego de introducir esta problemática y de expresar la necesidad de renovar las representaciones mentales y estrategias pedagógicas que permean los ámbitos de la administración; el presente artículo es una reflexión que se sirve de la evocación de las figuras míticas de Midas y Teseo para discutir algunas de las patologías de la administración y del pensamiento económico actual, así como para inspirar desde la perspectiva crítica y humanista, concepciones y prácticas alternativas que renueven la administración y le permitan enfrentar, con vigencia renovada, los desafíos actuales de las comunidades humanas.

How effective and sustainable are the practices nurtured by business schools? This paper is triggered by the obligation to refl ect about the social accountability that should be expected in the fi eld of ME; insisting on the need to acknowledge the pervasive ubiquity of business, and the structuring role that management education –ME-plays within society. Pondering the question of 'how ME performance should be assessed and improved?', this article adapts Donna Wood's model of Corporate Social Performance as a frame of reference to rethink the responsibility of management education through the exploration of principles of social responsibility, processes of responsiveness, and outcomes of behavior. While the existence of multiple levels of analysis is acknowledged-institutional, organizational, and individual-, emphasis is placed upon the refl ection of the discretionary power-its limits and possibilities-that individual professors and researchers might have.
