It summarizes decisions made by the AOU's Committee on Classification and Nomenclature—North America between 1 January and 31 December 2005. On pp. 727 and 731, the supplement erroneously stated that the English name of M. americana should become American Scoter. Instead the English name Black Scoter stays with M. americana, and the English name of M. nigra, now restricted to Eurasia, becomes Common Scoter.
