Abstract
We summarize the basic observational properties of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), including prompt emission properties, afterglow properties, and classification schemes. We also briefly comment on the current physical understanding of these properties.

Notes
The so-called electromagnetic model (Lyutikov and Blandford 2003) conjectures \(\sigma \gg 1\) in the emission region which is close to the deceleration radius. It is hard to maintain such a huge \(\sigma \) at the deceleration radius. The detections of the thermal components also disfavor this possibility.
Vurm et al. (2011) interprets the Band component as the photosphere emission while the “thermal” bump as the synchrotron radiation.
