Abstract
This paper reports collaborative work between a psychiatrist and a computer scientist on the application of visual metaphor for clarifying a number of key concepts in psychotherapy. A number of conceptual difficulties are reviewed and a visual metaphor is proposed which seeks to clarify potential misconceptions. The metaphor is elaborated and applied to the domain of study.
