Abstract

This paper describes the working philosophy of the behavior-based architecture applied to the design of mobile robots. The main advantages with respect to the conventional architecture are presented together with the pioneering ideas of its creator. Finally I present the case of three different computer beings (softbots); they were programmed with the behavior-based architecture with different levels of “intelligence”.
