GitHub Copilot billing cycle

Learn about the billing cycle for GitHub Copilot in organizations and enterprises.

Copilot uses the same billing cycle as other license-based products. For details about how billing cycles work across all products, see Billing cycles.

Within that framework:

  • Charges are calculated based on the number of Copilot seats (licenses) assigned during the billing cycle.
  • You can add or remove seats at any time. At the end of each billing cycle, billed users are calculated based on the number of seats assigned.

For reference information about seat assignment, see GitHub Copilot seat assignment.

Note that GitHub may apply a temporary authorization hold for the value of the usage-based costs in advance, which will appear as a pending charge in your account's payment method.

GitHub Copilot uses UTC for your billing cycle’s timezone. For example, if your cycle ends at 11:59 PM UTC, canceling a seat at 7:00 PM EST (which is 12:00 AM UTC) will fall into the next cycle, and you will be charged for that seat.
