2014 but not 2018 Mac Mini works with early Vizio TV. (No 1080p mode on it)
I had my 2014 Mac Mini (that I sold so I can't use it any more) work with a Vizio VW22HDTV10T, but my 2018 Mac Mini (which I keep for a second Mac) does not work with it.
I tried using 1080p mode, 720p mode, I tried the HDMI directly, the HDMI through a Thunderbolt 2 HDMI adapter (using a TB3->TB2 converter), the VGA through a Thunderbolt 2 VGA adapter, and through an Amazon HDMI->VGA adapter.
Also when comparing resolutions, none of the "native resolutions" of the Vizio is supported by the Macintosh. There was a 1344x--- vs a 1366x--- mode.
The best I could do was to boot in safe mode by holding Shift and then logging in. I was a able to see the login screen but not the main screen.
Someone told Vizio TVs have a way to lock out Apple computers. The Vizio help not was kind of helpful but, none of the suggestions s work.
Apple says if it works on my 1ms Lenovo G25-10 then it's a problem with the way Mac Mini communicates with that particular Vizio TV.
When I go Thrift shopping, should I bring my Mac Mini along and test the monitors with the Mac Mini and see if it works? Or is there a way I know it will work with a Mac Mini without bringing it?
Is there a list of incompatible models?
I also noticed my 2014 Mac Mini handled 1080i fine, but my 2018 Mac Mini doesn't have any interlaced modes. Someone told me Interlaced monitors are no longer supported on newer Macs, and was wondering why the Vizio worked with a 2014 Mac Mini but not a 2018?
Also there's a level of communication which the Vizio TV doesn't understand.
