It adopted an ex-post-facto design and used a survey research method to answer three research questions and test two hypotheses. The population included all Agricultural Science Teachers (ASTs) (n=970) drawn from 438 public secondary schools in Delta State. One teacher was randomly selected from each school after stratification into urban and rural areas from which 180 teachers were sampled. Data generated were analyzed using mean and standard deviation for the research questions and t-test for the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed amongst others that ASTs are committed towards the effective implementation of the Senior Secondary School Agricultural Trades Curriculum (SSSATC) but are faced with several challenges influencing the implementation of the curriculum. The ASTs identified the following strategies amongst others as effective for the successful implementation of the curriculum: motivating teachers through pay package and allowances; financial assistance to develop teaching and learning materials; regular and up-to-date sustainable in-service training for teachers on subject specialist matters among others. Recommendations made include amongst others that the Federal Government of Nigeria should muster the political will to improve on funding of the trade curriculum, employ only qualified hands and the ASTs should make use of the trade curriculum instructional guidelines.

The formal educational curriculum developed had since become obsolete, as a result of global changes in the needs of Nigerians. The senior secondary school leavers were not well prepared to cope with the challenges of higher education nor were they well prepared with the inculcation of functional skills to effectively face the world of work upon graduation. This study critically looked at the various levels of agricultural education in the primary and secondary schools and its implication for sustainable food security in Nigeria. Career choice decision, competent skill development, employable/entrepreneurship students, practical oriented students, increased literacy level, establishment of demonstration farms, and teachers' empowerment were identified by the researcher as some of the implications of the Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) and Senior Secondary Education Curriculum (SSEC) on sustainable food security. Some fundamental issues that might make or mar the BEC and SSEC were identified and recommendations made in order to ensure food security through the BEC and SSEC.

A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study using 5 research questions and was carried out in Delta State, Nigeria. A multistage sampling technique was used to sample 180 AESs from a population that comprises of public secondary school agricultural science teachers (1143) and agricultural extension agents (101). Data were collected through a structured questionnaire designed on a 4-point scale. The data were analyzed using Mean and Standard Deviation with acceptance Mean value of ≥ 2.5. The study showed amongst others that awareness of the SDGs is high; poultry production and fish farming enterprises were highly agreed upon as the most potential opportunities available, while processing and packaging were the least available enterprise of interest. Some challenges facing the AESs were identified and the imperatives for actions determined. The determined actions to be taken include amongst others: ensure farmers receive necessary information and technical support to boost food production; and help to increase the resilience of livelihoods to external threats and crises. The study recommended amongst others that the three tiers of Nigeria government and other donor agencies should build the human capacity of the AESs in order to keep them up-to-date with current global trends and practices in achieving zero hunger by 2030; and they should urgently tackle the issues that result to risk or shocks to farmers.
