Hazem حازم El-Refaey الرفاعي
In addition to being trained as a clinician and becoming a member of the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist (MRCOG in 1990), and a consultant in 1998 I pursued training as an academic. In1994 I obtained a degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland for my work on Prostaglandins. The degree was offered with merits, a rare honour, for pioneering the use of the drug misoprostol in women’s health. which ultimately became part of the World Health Organization essential drug list. The toughest but undeclared criterion of the worthwhile of any research programme is reaching the shores of clinical practice. My research have achieved this in labour miscarriage and abortion. My papers have one of the highest citations in the field.I continued to research throughout my clinical carrier in Gynaecological scanning early pregnancy problems post part hemorrhage. Misoprostol has been ultimately added to Essential drug list of the World health organisation. A unique proof for the exceptional quality of these seminal studies. My academic career extended from Aberdeen University, University College London (UCL) and am currently Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, one of London’s leading hospitals and in Imperial College School of Medicine. I practiced in these three eminent institutes. I have extensive experience as a clinician and as a leader in this speciality. I am experienced in all aspects of the field and continue to provide hands-on experience in labour ward and in gynaecology and remain a clinician at heart. As a result of these studies there has been an explosion in research in this arena. A literature search in Pub Med will yield almost 1000 reviews about misoprostol. Nearly two third of these refer to the use of misoprostol in women’s health. Most of these editorials made direct reference to my publications and qualified the value of these developments. My link with Egypt have remained strong over the years. I regularly contribute to the national newspapers there and I am known as proponent of secular ideas and recognised nationally as a proponent of women rights. I have been granted four patents throughout my carrier, their details are available in any intellectual property (IP) search. I developed therefore insight and Knowledge in addressing innovative ideas.
