Getting help

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Is Wack the book author or the photographer? The selected license with this author clearly cant apply, the statement, that the image is public doamin because its author died more then 70 years ago is incorrect. --Martin H. (talk) 12:48, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wack is the author of the book. I don't know who the photographer was. I'll give the author as "unknown" except for the painting of Leopold II, were a painter's name is given.Edaen (talk) 13:02, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I first thought its from the UK, but it was published in the US and so its PD-US anyway, also the book author is from the US. I searched the book now as far as this is possible without spending much time on it, maybe he is, maybe not, dont know. Its save to select PD-US however, pd-old is unlikely. --Martin H. Flickr

Hej! Jeg kan se at du har haft lidt problemer med at få dine billeder fra Flickr godkendt med PD-user. Du kunne måske lave et link fra http://www.flickr.com/people/mk_iii/ til din konto på Commons og evt. også sætte {{User flickr|mk_iii}} på din brugerside på Commons. Så kan selv den mest ihærdige OTRS-frivillige på Commons ikke være i tvivl om at du kontrollerer begge konti :-) Hvis du har fået slettet nogle billeder eller har haft andre problemer, så sig bare til. --MGA73 (talk) 19:25, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hvis der bliver nogle problemer, så lav et link fra Flickr til Commons eller blot en enkelt redigering, så man kan se at du også kontrollerer Flickr-kontoen (og sæt et link her så man kan se hvor du har rettet). Tak - det er nu bekræftet, at du kontrollerer begge konti nu hvor du har lavet et link fra Flickr til Commons. Du kan nu rette licensen på dine billeder præcis som du har lyst til. Lige på engelsk af hensyn til dem, der ikke kan "nordisk" :-)

Beskrivning for sockenkartor

Hej. Forst sa vill jag bara saga att ditt arbete med sockenkartorna verkligen ar ett praktverk, kudos. Men nar jag (i samband med din tidigare kommentar) tittade pa File:Östra Ramdala.svg sa blev jag fundersam aver beskrivningen:

Detta verkar vara originalbeskrivningarna fran de tva filer du angav som "source" i DerivativeFX. Problemet ar att beskrivningen inte anger vad filen faktiskt visar dvs. "Ramdala socken i Östra härad, Blekinge län." (precis du angivit i sv:Ramdala socken). Jag vet inte om detta ar ett medvetet val for att sedan bearbeta alla beskrivnignarna med en bot eller enbart en miss.

Ett mindre problem ar datumformatieringen i "date"-faltet. Den formatering som anvands av derivativeFX ar inte compatible med Commons standard (har papekat dett har) genom att andra det till antingen "2011-04-22" (eller 2011-04-22 10:58:00Z om du vill behalla tid och tidszon) sa kan du se skillnaden. Men som jag namnde sa ar detta inget stort problem da det latt kan fixas av en bot.

Kanske kunde vara bra att skapa en kategori i stil med Category:Hundreds of Sweden for socknarna ocksa... men vet inte riktigt vilket namn som ar bast... kanske just parish ar ju framst forsamling. /Lokal _Profil 15:57, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jag har mest utgått från att det blir rätt om jag använder DerivativeFX och accepterat resultatet av det skälet. Det här problemet gäller för några hundra kartor. Hur får man bot-hjälp för att rätta till det? Edaen (talk) 16:22, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Bots/Work requests är nog rätt ställe att börja. Kan tänka mig att det går at extrahera den korrekta beskrivningen (på svenska åtminstonne) från bildetexten på sv.wiki eller från filnamnet. Förresten jag har ändrat om i häradskategoristrukturen på Commons så att den överenstämmer med den svenska strukturen.
