Samuel Thompson Barnett CBE (1901-1972) was a New Zealand civil servant. He was Secretary of Justice from 1949 to 1955 and Controller-General of Prisons from 1955 to 1958 at the Department of Justice. Later he was Chairman of the Licensing Control Commission, Trade Practices Commission and President Prices Tribunal between 1960 and 1971. He retired to Waikanae and was elected a member of the Horowhenua County Council. Previously he withdrew from standing for Mayor of Wellington in 1962 and in the 1960 Queen's Birthday Honours was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
