Parque La Alameda, (Alameda Park) is located on the north of Quito and abuts the Historic Center of Quito and inside the park is the Quito Astronomical Observatory. Parque La Alameda, has some of the best panoramic views of the Pichincha Volcano. A UNESCO World Heritage Site that stretches over 790 acres and contains 130 monumental buildings, 5,000 smaller properties, Palacio Gangotena is one of the best examples in the Colonial Center of Quito, Ecuador.


Parque La Alameda has boat rental during the daytime for a nominal cost.

The Quito Astronomical Observatory is one of the oldest observatories in South America, located inside Alameda Park

The Quito Astronomical Observatory was founded in 1873. In 1963, The Government of Ecuador transferred title of the Observatory to the National Polytechnic School. The Quito Astronomical Observatory is the National Observatory of Ecuador and is located 12 minutes south of the Equator in the Quito Colonial Center.

The Quito Astronomical Observatory is managed by E.P.N.

The daily management and operation of the Quito Astronomical Observatory is managed by E.P.N. - Escuela Politécnica Nacional - National Polytechnic School [1] [2]The Office of International Programs and Services provides a permanent and personalized service for the whole community at the National Polytechnic School.[3]
