Aim: Research evidence is rarely the primary driver of contextually salient and feasible policy m... more Aim: Research evidence is rarely the primary driver of contextually salient and feasible policy making; instead, contextual knowledge and factors play a significant role. This paper argues why we need to develop indicators, which can be used to assess if policy making is done in an evidence-informed way. Methods/results: Based on up-to-date theories and literature, this paper suggests a set of initial indicators using the example of physical activity policy making in a school setting. Conclusion: These initial indicators need to be further tested and validated in empirical studies in different contexts.

(English) This report describes a Delphi study conducted within the European FP7 project REsearch... more (English) This report describes a Delphi study conducted within the European FP7 project REsearch into POlicy to enhance Physical Activity (REPOPA), whose main objective is fostering evidence-informed policy making in the field of health and physical activity. The Delphi study was designed and implemented for improving and integrating a draft list of indicators for evidence-informed policy making developed by REPOPA researchers to assess the use of evidence in policy processes, organized in thematic sets. The Delphi study involved 76 policy makers and researchers from six European countries – Italy, Romania, Denmark, Finland, United Kingdom and The Netherlands – and was conducted in two rounds consisting of online questionnaires. Preliminary results about the effect of the Delphi on the original indicators are reported. (Italiano) Questo report descrive lo studio Delphi condotto nell’ambito del progetto europeo FP7 REsearch into POlicy to enhance Physical Activity (REPOPA), che si pone come obiettivo principale quello di favorire l’uso delle evidenze scientifiche nelle politiche riguardanti la salute e l’attivita fisica. Lo studio Delphi e stato ideato e implementato con lo scopo di integrare e validare una lista di indicatori di evidenceinformed policy making sviluppata dai ricercatori REPOPA per valutare l’uso di evidenze nei processi di policy, divisi per set tematici. Lo studio ha visto il coinvolgimento di 76 ricercatori e policy makers di sei paesi europei – Italia, Romania, Danimarca, Finlandia, Regno Unito e Olanda – e organizzazioni internazionali e si e svolto in due fasi: due questionari online per valutare rilevanza e fattibilita degli indicatori. Il report include i risultati preliminari emersi dallo studio Delphi.

The main results are reorganized in a strengths and weaknesses scheme. The analysis of Delphi methodology is preceded by a general introduction on the development of participative methodologies, in the framework of the discussion on the meaning and role of democracy. (Italiano) In questo lavoro viene analizzata la metodologia partecipata del Delphi prendendo in considerazione la letteratura rilevante e discutendola criticamente. I principali risultati sono stati riorganizzati in uno schema punti di forza/criticita. L'analisi della metodologia Delphi e preceduta da un'introduzione generale sullo sviluppo delle metodologie partecipate, inquadrate nel contesto della discussione su significato e ruolo della democrazia.

(English) More than a decade after the publication of the Science and Society report by the House... more (English) More than a decade after the publication of the Science and Society report by the House of Lords, which introduced concepts such as dialogue and public engagement that significantly contributed to change theories and practices of science communication, it seemed reasonable to take some time to reflect on the patterns of science communication that characterize the relation between scientists and member of the public. With this paper we would like to report the results of a survey circulated amongst a sample of Italian physicists who were asked to reflect on their relation with members of the public in light of their personal experiences and practices of communication. As it emerges from the pages that follow the respondents communicate science in many different ways that are not enclosed in fixed models of science communication circulated amongst academics, and on the contrary include a multiplicity of activities, opinions and forms of communication. (Italiano) Un decennio dopo la pubblicazione del rapporto Scienza e Societa da parte della House of Lords inglese, con il quale sono stati introdotti i concetti di dialogo e public engagement che hanno contribuito significativamente a modificare teorie e pratiche di comunicazione della scienza, ci sembra opportuno provare a riflettere sulle modalita con cui gli scienziati si rapportano con il pubblico. Con questo paper vogliamo quindi riportare i risultati ottenuti da un sondaggio postale online sottoposto a un campione di ricercatori impegnati nel campo della fisica cui e stato chiesto di riflettere sul rapporto tra scienza e pubblico anche alla luce delle loro personali esperienze e pratiche di comunicazione della scienza. Come si evince dalle pagine che seguono, le modalita con cui i nostri intervistati comunicano la scienza non possono essere racchiuse in modelli fissi e prestabiliti, e sono caratterizzata da una multiciplita di attivita, opinioni e forme.

The authors present an analysis of the History and Geography textbooks that were the most used in... more The authors present an analysis of the History and Geography textbooks that were the most used in Italian secondary schools in the school year 2016-2017, aimed at investigating immigrant representation and migrations through images and texts. Indeed, textbooks are a kind of media that can impact on the public discourse while presenting a certain vision of society to those that are becoming the future citizens, conveying - explicitly and implicitly - value systems. In this sense, they can act as tools to build support for power or cultural resistance, an aspect that is reflected in the so called "Didactic Transposition Delay", which helps to understand the relationship between knowledge and values. Given their "political" nature, albeit cloaked in an institutional authority, it is important to reflect on this type of media in a critical manner, particularly with respect to the promotion of discrimination and stereotypes. Among the findings of the study, a narrative predominantly describing migrants as "victims" and as a resource (especially eco-nomic) for the country of destination, albeit not lacking representation in terms of problems, while barely making room for the subject of human rights. At the same time, the images convey a representation that is predominantly "male", tending to "veil" the presence of women, contrary to the data, but with certain elements which the authors consider as developments with respect to previous studies.

This paper explores the suitability of an Erasmus+ Sport Collaborative Partnership – DIYPES proje... more This paper explores the suitability of an Erasmus+ Sport Collaborative Partnership – DIYPES project, aimed at testing participatory approaches to physical education and sport classes’ curriculum and contents – within the Responsible Research and Innovation framework indicators. The steps of the DIYPES intervention Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) are confronted with the RRI process and outcomes indicators proposed by RRI-Tools, a FP7 project having as main preoccupation RRI defining and development, and making the RRI concept operational. Results show that DIYPES intervention methodology follows, up to a high extent, the majority of the proposed indicators, thus aligning the project processes and (envisioned – given that project is still under implementation) results within the RRI endeavors. In conclusion, for fostering the achievement of applicable, acceptable and sustainable results it is relevant to test (both prospectively and retrospectively) the compatibility of a cross-country, collaborative curriculum reform project methodology within the RRI proposed framework or concepts. RRI can be proposed as a cornerstone reference in designing collaborative curriculum reform projects, at least in the field of physical education and sports.

During the Officina 2016, first results of the project Developing and Evaluating Skills for Creativity and Innovation (DESCI), financed by the Erasmus+ Program, were proposed and submitted to the community of school and research professionals, policy makers and companies. The event was aimed at developing a model of inclusive and participated Alternating Training, capable of stimulating the Key Competences indicated by the European Commission in 2018, suggested as prerequisite for an active citizenship, the development of the individuals and a chance for students to become knowledgeable and enhance their capacity of taking part responsibly in the process of decision making. The community born around the “Officine” tried to fathom the targets, methodologies and the conceptual and cultural framework in order to understand the value and the return of the proposed DESCI approach.
From that moment on, the “Officine” have continued to represent, for the community born with the first event and expanded during several years, a space for co-creation of knowledge and debate about education and competences for society and social inclusiveness; a reflection chance which

is proposed every year according to different keys and perspectives, in order to provide the community with new insights.
The last “Officina”, entitled “Curriculum and Competence”, was organized in 2019 in partnership with the General Directorate for School Regulations and the Evaluation of the National Education System of the Ministry of Education University and Research – now Ministry of Public Education –, the national network of Vocational Schools for the Water Management and Environmental Rehabilitation (GARA) and the Higher Institute of the Environment Agency (ISPRA). It stimulated reflection on the relationship between curricular innovation and development of competences and skills.
This report aims to provide an overview of the shared experiences and practices and of the proposals that emerged at the working tables within the Officina 2019.
This report is divided into two principal sections and a conclusion. The first chapter, “The Book of Good Practices”, collects the practices shared at the “Officine”. The second chapter presents the considerations that emerged from the five working tables, where the protagonists of the different practices had a chance to discuss and reflect individually and collectively. The last section offers a final thought about the data/inputs emerged from the tables.
