Design studio courses are the basis of industrial design education. The product design projects c... more Design studio courses are the basis of industrial design education. The product design projects carried out by academic and private sector experienced full-time and part-time instructors are shaped in line with the domain and experience of the lecturers. Assessment criteria may also change with the content of each product design project implemented. Instructors convey the values and approaches they consider to the students through the teaching methods they prefer throughout the process. In the industrial design studio education, where teaching takes place through experience transfer, different types of experience and knowledge are brought together by instructors and students collaboratively throughout the process. Within the scope of the study, the different approaches of the full-time and parttime instructors in the project development processes in the product design studios were examined through the professional domains and experiences of the instructors in Turkey. In order to do so, a survey was conducted with both parties. The collected data were analysed with the Chi-Square Independence test, and significant relationships were determined between the experiences, teaching methods, and design process approach of full-time and part-time instructors carrying out the product design studio. Participants' opinions about design techniques, design assessments and shortcomings of education were listed in the table and the distributions of the answers were shown. In this direction, evaluations and suggestions regarding the transfer of experience in product design education have been shared.

Ürün tasarım süreçlerinde uygulanan farklı tasarım yaklaşımları tasarım sürecinin yapısını şekill... more Ürün tasarım süreçlerinde uygulanan farklı tasarım yaklaşımları tasarım sürecinin yapısını şekillendirmektedir. Özel sektörde firma hedefleri için yeni ürün tasarım ve üretim süreçlerinde farklı odaklar belirlenmektedir. Firmanın tasarım anlayışına ek olarak endüstriyel tasarımcıların sahip olduğu tasarım yaklaşımları da tasarlanan ürüne etkide bulunabilmektedir. Tasarımcının zihinsel süreçlerinin bir ürün çıktısı haline gelmesi tasarım yaklaşımları ve kullanıcı odaklı yöntemlerin yanında tasarımcının karakter özelliklerine ve yönelimlerine bağlı olarak sonuçlanabilmektedir. Bu çalışmada tasarım süreci boyunca şekillenen ürün aşamaları katmanlı olarak değerlendirilmiş, tasarımcı gözünden çalışma odakları ve tasarlanan ürüne etkisi incelenmiştir. Tasarımcının tasarladığı bir ürünü nasıl tanımladığı, firma bünyesinde etkileşimde olduğu diğer uzmanlık alanlarıyla bağlantısı ve endüstriyel tasarım mesleğinin yapısını kavrama biçimi araştırılmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında hazırlanan anket uygulaması yoluyla farklı firmalarda ve görevlerde yer alan endüstriyel tasarımcıların görüşleri analiz edilmiştir. Tasarımcıların sosyal karakteri ve mesleki yönelimleri arasındaki ilişkileri çözümleme amacı taşıyan ön çalışma niteliğindeki bu araştırmada, tasarımcıların sahip olduğu tasarım yaklaşımları ile hedefledikleri çalışma alanlarının birbirlerini destekleyebileceği görülmüştür. Bu doğrultuda tasarımcı odaklı süreçler için görüş ve önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

Arising changes with Fourth Industrial Revolution, new internet-based technologies, approaches an... more Arising changes with Fourth Industrial Revolution, new internet-based technologies, approaches and formations manifest themself in the area of design. In novel projects, the designer administrates the process via a collaborative approach which includes cooperation with distinct fields of expertise. For these project processes and the role of the designer to be resolved, Cloud Based Design system which is an interface component with Fab Lab institution; that has spread rapidly as a means to an example of space; is taken under consideration. Not only the design perception and its alterations in the fields of expertise but also the changes in the design process itself is surveyed in the article. In this very article, exemplifications are made on the role of education, designer and design, over formation of sensitivity for designing the design process. A framework for role alterations is aimed at profound and semi-structured interviews.

Processes involving the design process stages in traditional applications shape it directly with interaction. When evaluated in terms of current practices, it can be said that these practices, which are the subject of current education systems, are proven processes. However, the opportunities offered by developing technologies and the disappearance of both space and time limits have allowed for reading and evaluating new opportunities. For example, faster and easier realization of the contributions of instructors in different locations or the interaction of students with each other, cloud-based software of developing technology shows itself as an important and guiding development.

Tez kapsamında teknoloji tabanlı işbirlikli projelerde çalışan endüstriyel tasarımcıların rolleri... more Tez kapsamında teknoloji tabanlı işbirlikli projelerde çalışan endüstriyel tasarımcıların rolleri araştırılmıştır. Tasarımcı rollerinin tasarım-teknoloji etkileşimi ve tasarımcı-mühendis işbirliği bağlamında analiz edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Türkiye ekseninde gerçekleştirilen araştırma için ekonomi ve ticaret raporları doğrultusunda teknoloji tabanlı 3 sektör belirlenmiştir: Türkiye ekonomisini yönlendiren Motorlu Kara Taşıtları Sektörü, gelişmekte olan Elektrikli Ev Aletleri Sektörü ve devlet desteğine ihtiyaç duyan Tıbbi Cihazlar Sektörü çalışma evrenini oluşturmuştur. Sektörler Türkiye ekonomisinde sırasıyla yüksek, orta ve düşük ihracat oranları sebebiyle seçilmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında 15 kişiye pilot anket, 42 kişiye ön anket ve 55 kişiye ana anket uygulamaları yapılmıştır. Ana anket uygulamasına Motorlu Kara Taşıtları Sektöründe ürün geliştirme projeleri yapan 7 firma, Elektrikli Ev Aletlerin Sektöründen 8 firma ve Tıbbi Cihazlar Sektöründen 8 firma katılmıştır. Ayrıca ankete katılan 15 endüstriyel tasarımcı ile yapılan derin görüşmelerde görüşme formu yaklaşımı uygulanmış ve anket sonuçları temellendirilmiştir. Görüşmelere ek olarak tasarımcı ve mühendis mesleklerinden yönetici statüsündeki 5 kişi ile yeni ürün geliştirme ekipleri değerlendirilmiştir. Anket sonuçları SPSS programı ile Ki Kare bağımsızlık testinde işlenerek çapraz tablolar oluşturulmuştur. Yapılan araştırmalar endüstriyel tasarımcıların özel sektörde üstlendikleri 3 farklı rol olduğunu göstermiştir. Süreç analizleri ile tasarımcıların ve mühendislerin yeterlilikleri ve görevleri tanımlanmış, karşılaşılan problemlere akademik eğitim ve sektörel çalışmalar üzerinden çözüm önerileri sunulmuştur.
In this thesis, the roles of industrial designers working in technology-based collaborative projects were investigated. Analyzing designer roles in the context of design-technology interaction and designer-engineer collaboration was aimed. In line with the economic and trade reports for research conducted in Turkey axis three technology based sectors were determined. Motor Vehicles Sector that directs Turkey’s economy; Electrical Appliances Sector that is developing; Medical Devices Sector that need industry and government support have created the population of study. Sectors are in Turkey's economy has been chosen respectively due to high, middle and low exportation rates. Within the scope of the study, 15 pilot surveys, 42 preliminary surveys and 55 main surveys were conducted. 7 companies from Motor Vehicles Sector that have product development projects, 8 companies from Electrical Appliances Sector and 8 companies from Medical Devices Sector participated in the main survey application. The interview form approach was applied in the deep interviews with 15 industrial designers participating in the survey and the results of the survey were substantiated. In addition to the interviews, new product development teamswere evaluated with 5 managers from designer and engineer professions. The results of the survey were analyzed by SPSS program in Chi-square independence test and cross-tables were created. Research has shown that industrial designers have 3 different roles in the industry. The competencies and duties of the designers and engineers have been defined with the process analyses, proposals including academic education and sectoral studies have been presented to the problems encountered.

Teknolojik gelişmeler ürün tasarım süreçlerini ve endüstriyel tasarımcıların süreç içerisindeki r... more Teknolojik gelişmeler ürün tasarım süreçlerini ve endüstriyel tasarımcıların süreç içerisindeki rollerini değiştirebilmektedir. İşbirlikli tasarım süreçlerinin dinamiklerini değiştiren yeni teknolojiler, tasarımcıların sahip oldukları görevleri çeşitlendirmektedir. Tasarım ve teknoloji etkileşimi sayesinde endüstriyel tasarımcıların kullandıkları araçlar ve tasarımcıların yetenekleri gelişmekte, tasarım kavramının algılanma biçimleri de değiştirmektedir. Teknolojiyi temel alan projelerin gerçekleştirildiği sektörlerde tasarım sürecinden ve endüstriyel tasarımcıdan farklı beklentiler ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, teknoloji faaliyetlerine ve ülkenin ekonomi değerlerine doğrudan ya da dolaylı katkıda bulunan tasarım kavramının işbirlikli ürün geliştirme süreçlerinde incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu doğrultuda Türkiye’de yer alan sektörlerin faaliyetleri güncel sektör ve ekonomi raporları ile incelenerek farklı gelişim aşamalarına sahip sektörler belirlenmiştir. Belirlenen üç sektörde tasarım süreci ve tasarımcı değer analizi yapılmıştır. Tasarımcıların rolündeki değişim, teknolojik gelişmelere adaptasyonları ve tasarım kavramının bu değişimlere göre nasıl konumlandırıldığı yapılandırılmış görüşme metoduyla değerlendirilmiştir. Endüstriyel tasarımcıların, gelişen tasarım araçlarına adaptasyonları ile birlikte, işbirlikli tasarım sürecinin dijital basamaklarına adaptasyonu için bireysel yeteneklerini güncel tutmalarının önemli olduğu, tasarım eğitiminde ve özel sektördeki tasarım süreçleri yapılarından bazı yeni yaklaşımların uygulamaya aktarılmasının faydalı olacağı değerlendirilmiştir.
