Funding and Finances

The work of ASC programmes continues to advance toward our Mission, supported through income generated and our generous funders.

ASC receives funding from two main sources – Annual fees collected from Licence Holders in commercial operations and Royalties collected on consumer-facing products bearing the ASC label, demonstrating commitment to responsibly farmed seafood.

ASC is grateful to our funders who have continued to support our programmes. As we deliver progress towards our mission and drive improvements as directed through our strategy, we will continue to seek opportunities to support our programmes’ growth and development.

Project Spotlight: The Certification & Ratings Collaboration

Through the generous support of the Packard Foundation, Moore Foundation and Walton Foundation – ASC partners with other leading seafood certification and ratings programs focused on environmental sustainability and/or social responsibility.

The Seafood Certification & Ratings Collaboration (CRC) unites five global programs working together to coordinate tools and increase impact so that more seafood producers move along a clear path toward environmental sustainability and social responsibility.

Among project successes, the CRC has delivered environmental and social data tools to support businesses, governments and stakeholders in understanding the performance of aquaculture and fisheries globally.

Income and expenditure in 2023

We made key strategic investments across ASC programmes in 2023 to support our growth, enhance the value of ASC and ensure the continued integrity of ASC offerings. Such as bringing key markets to farms in ASC Discovery Tours, building partnerships to advance the production of responsible seafood, and grow our Improvement Programme by ASC.

ASC achieved income growth in 2023, despite ongoing challenges from external economic circumstances. ASC expenditure rose 13.5%, with dedicated activities supporting the certification programme (develop and maintenance of our standards and assurance) and marketing and communications activities (servicing and outreach to farms and the commercial sector).
