Two questionnaires were completed by 88 incarcer-ated, male sexual offenders (45 child molesters and 43 rapists): the Spielberger state trait anxi-ety inventory and the Buss-Durkee hostility inventory. It was found that the rapists ’ level of aggression was significantly higher than that of the child molesters. No significant differences in anxiety levels were found between the two groups. The results are discussed in terms of their relevance to theory and clinical practice.

Its aim is to paralyse the population with fear and anxiety,1 to intimidate and to induce a sense of vulnerability2 worry and concern that is disproportional to and far exceeds the actual damage it causes.3 Terrorists terrorize by using threats or physical actions to kill and injure innocent people. In other words, although terrorist acts injure and kill some victims, their ultimate goal is to cause a sense of fear, anxiety, helplessness and vulnerability among the general population. As a result, these acts evoke feelings of potential victimization4 unrelated to the actual probability of becoming a victim.5 (The fact that terrorist attacks are unpredictable creates a perception of uncontrollability, which affects one’s capability of coping with the threat.6)

Staff members believe that the crucial relationship qualities in the context of a correctional institution are involvement; support; inmate autonomy; an antiauthoritarian position; and that the relationship should be of a friendly, informal nature, with a low degree of staff control of inmates. By contrast, prison inmates prefer to experience a staff member as an authoritarian patron in an apparent wish to be controlled by a clear, definite set of rules and expectations. It would appear that with regard to the inmates, the slightly modified Goffmanian style of relationship, especially as it pertains to definite boundaries, endures and perhaps predominates. The research was conducted in the psychiatric ward of the Mental Health and Clinical Criminology Center affiliated with the Israel Prison Service.

The present study describes the relationship between these prototypes and anxiety that results from personal, professional, and job insecurity. The greater this anxiety and insecurity, the more likely a staff member is to be punitively oriented. In recent years, there has been a revival of the rehabilitation orientation in the criminal justice system The results suggest that unless measures are taken to reduce anxiety and insecurity among prison staff they will be unable to tolerate the close staff-inmate relations necessary in a rehabilitation-oriented institution.

The purpose of this article is to highlight its development. Criminology is defined as a interdisciplinary super-profession. We tend to view criminology as a basic profession with a number of specializations. Clinical criminology is one of these specializations. Forensic psychiatry and clinical criminology have common roots in psychiatry, law and behavioural sciences. They overlap in some fields. Members of both professions work in the same setting and share some of the tasks, but the formal and professional responsibilities differ significantly. We perceive clinical criminology and forensic psychiatry as complementary professions belonging to medicine. The multidisciplinary educated clinical criminologist is the only professional in the forensic system who is qualified to moderate between the mental health and legal expert.

The fact that sexual harassment is still a topic of concern and a focus of Victimological research signifies that sexual harassment is still an ongoing phenomenon in civil organization, universities and the army. Israel is the only state where army service is compulsory service for female as well as male. Therefore in Israel university studies begins usually after the army service. The purpose of our study was to examine the role of loneliness and social integration as potential mediators in the relationship between physical pain and suicidal ideation in the elderly. Design: Descriptive, bivariate correlations, and moderated mediation analyses were performed. Setting: Personal meetings were held with participants in their homes. Participants: A total of 198 elderly men aged 65 and over. Measurements: Self-report measures: Beck Scale for Suicidal Ideation, Physical pain subscale, Multidimensional Social Integration in Later Life Scale, and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Loneliness Scale (Version 3). Results: Our findings showed that the association between physical pain and suicidal ideation was mediated by loneliness and social integration. Further analyses revealed that this mediation model was significant among single, but not married, men. Conclusions: Physi...

Modular judgment was operationalized using blame schemata suited to judgment of everyday aggression. Subjects were 72 individuals, 36 therapists and 36 non-therapists; half were men and half women. Each subject was presented with written descriptions of four rapes, which included information regarding victim's gender (male versus female) and victim's prior acquaintance with the rapist (stranger or known). Dependent variables were attribution of blame and judgments regarding severity of the rape and of the punishment deserved by the rapist. Among both therapists and non-therapists there was a slight general tendency to blame the victim. As expected, women were blamed more than men. Also, men attributed less blame to male victims then did women, whereas women attributed less blame to female victims then did men. These results support the theories of modular judgment and of defensive attribution. As for judgment of severity of the rape, therapists judged the rapes as slightly more severe. Similar results were found regarding judgment of deserved punishment. We suggest further investigation of the connection between blame attribution and rape myths, which may facilitate blaming the victim.

To examine this relationship, we focused on Ethiopian adolescents in Israel who are at risk for substance abuse. Many immigrants from Ethiopia experienced severe immigration trauma and research indicates the existence of transgenerational trauma transmission. The current research focuses on the connection between Ethiopian adolescents' perceptions of their parents' immigration trauma and their readiness to use psychoactive substances. Five hundred and ten second-generation Ethiopian adolescents (Israeli-born children of Ethiopian immigrants) filled out questionnaires examining socio-demographic characteristics, immigration impact and readiness to consume alcoholic beverages and use illegal drugs. Our findings show that readiness levels among Ethiopian adolescents to use psychoactive substances are relatively low, and that parental trauma only ...
