i was never religious. i did not believe in a god nor an afterlife. but for him, i wanted to believe that there was a god and that he was kind. for him, i wanted to believe that he would find peace when his body was laid to rest. for jūshirō, i wanted to believe that there was an afterlife where the universe was better to him. and i hoped that i would find him again.
my husband was a gentle man, and in all the love he had for his work, his friends, his family, he did not leave any space for himself. i was never religious, but i thought maybe i could be now, if i really tried. i could worship him — the legacy he left behind, he things he cared for, the values that he lived by.
