More and more image processing applications are intended to run on mobile devices. This trend is ... more More and more image processing applications are intended to run on mobile devices. This trend is visible also in medical industry, which have very strict reliability and safety requirements. Increased power consumption and inefficient image processing can affect both of these factors significantly. More over, it affects the user experience as well. In this paper authors investigates the performance and power consumption of several different numeric algorithms implemented on iPhone device. The comparison is made between CPU and GPU based solutions. Authors evaluated the test scenarios involving common used operations: matrix multiplication, thresholding and Canny’s edge detection. The results showed that GPU based solution can be up to 4 times faster as CPU based one, with similar power footprint in particular cases. To prevent this, most surgical instruments and implants are sterilized. However, ensuring that this process is carried out safely and according to the normative requirements is not a trivial task. This study aims to develop a sensor system that can automatically detect successful steam sterilization on the basis of the measured temperature profiles. This can be achieved only when the relationship between the temperature on the surface of the tool and the temperature at the measurement point inside the tool is known. To find this relationship, the thermodynamic model of the system has been developed. Simulated results of thermal simulations were compared with the acquired temperature profiles to verify the correctness of the model. Such systems are also called WIM systems for direct enforcement (e-WIM). The achievement of introducing e-WIM systems is conditional on ensuring constant, known, and high-accuracy dynamic weighing of vehicles. WIM systems weigh moving vehicles, and on this basis, they estimate static parameters, i.e., static axle load and gross vehicle weight. An approach for granting more data and enabling access to additional settings and parameters is since many decades the use of displays. Especially in medical industry, screens became an essential part of the daily work of doctors and medical staff. From patient monitors to blood sugar test devices, displays are present in all shapes and functions. However, these screens are still limited to be used in devices which can't be sterilized. This is caused by the very harsh conditions of steam sterilizations, the most common type in Europe. Hereby, temperatures up to 135 degree Celsius and 3 bar pressure occur. The use of Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) systems for vehicle's direct enforcement depends, first of a... more The use of Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) systems for vehicle's direct enforcement depends, first of all, on their high and constant accuracy under variable measurement conditions. This work concerns improving accuracy of weighing results obtained in WIM systems. The method commonly employed for achieving this goal is to increase the number of axle load sensors at the weighing site. The objective of this study is to compare the accuracy of Weigh-in-Motion systems equipped with different numbers of axle load sensors. The paper presents the results of in situ tests and simulations. Experiments were carried out on 16-sensors system and were supplemented by results obtained by simulations using multibody dynamic software. For accuracy assessment of weighing systems, two criteria were used: the 95%-percent relative error and the reliability characteristic. Quantitative relationship between the number of axle load sensors and weighing accuracy was estimated. Optimal number of sensors was evaluated for multi-sensor systems which is a step forward in implementation of WIM systems for direct enforcement of overloading.

In this paper, we present the results of a comparison of two estimators of the gross vehicle weig... more In this paper, we present the results of a comparison of two estimators of the gross vehicle weight (GVW) and the static load of individual axles of vehicles. The estimators were used to process measurement data derived from Multi-Sensor Weigh-In-Motion systems (MS-WIM). The term estimator is understood as an algorithm according to which the dynamic axle load measurement results are processed in order to determine the static load. The result obtained is called static load estimate. As a measure of measurement uncertainty, we adopted the standard deviation of the static load estimate. The mean value and the maximum likelihood estimators were compared. Studies were conducted using simulation methods based on synthetic data and experimental data obtained from a WIM system equipped with 16 lines of polymer axle load sensors. This system was designed in Poland in a period of 3 years from 2003 to 2006. The embodied system is equipped with 16 piezoelectric load sensors, in the form of narrow 4m long strips, provided by Measurement Specialties. The paper outlines the system structure and its elements i.e. the weighing site, the data acquisition system and data processing software. Experimental tests indicate that the designed MS-WIM system falls in accuracy class B+(7) in the speed range from 30 km/h to 80 km/h.
