ABSTRACT Now growing interest in 3D video services inevitably brings a greater need to measure th... more ABSTRACT Now growing interest in 3D video services inevitably brings a greater need to measure their quality. From a financial point of view alone, it is crucial for providers to offer users the best experience possible. Such measurements are necessary in order to optimize the performance of telecommunication networks or to plan new investment. Unfortunately, the nature of this kind of service makes it almost impossible to use existing and verified 2D quality metrics. Therefore, suitable 3D quality metrics are urgently needed. In this paper, we propose one such solution - an objective, bitstream quality metric for stereoscopic high definition video affected by compression and packet loss in a network.

ABSTRACT Quality of Experience (QoE) in 3DTV may be influenced by many factors, such as the viewi... more ABSTRACT Quality of Experience (QoE) in 3DTV may be influenced by many factors, such as the viewing conditions, the characteristics of the panel of viewers, etc. In this study, the impact of two factors, namely the test environment and the display technology are analyzed. Particularly, two paired comparison experiments have been carried out to assess the overall preference of experience (PoE) for a set of 3D video sequences. The first experiment, performed at University of Nantes, allows comparing the results obtained in a standard laboratory versus living-room-like environment. No significance difference has been found. The second experiment, performed at Brno University, allows comparing the results obtained using stereoscopic display with shutter glasses versus polarized glasses. Significance difference could be identified depending on the video content. Since the same test material has been used in both locations, inter-laboratory correlation is also analyzed.

Current systems cover the aspects of maintaining the quality of 2D (only) media by conducting user requirements surveys and 2D QoE assessments. This paper presents the work performed in the EU FP7 SARACEN research project on personalized 3D media streaming over P2P architectures, together with evaluation tests and results as regards scalable and adaptive coding for 3D video streams.

Different cross talk definitions exist, which makes cross talk measurement and comparison difficult. We take a step back and focus on a detailed 3D display luminance analysis. The conclusions we draw from the temporal luminance analysis can be used to propose an effective approach to cross talk measurements. In scope of the presented work we have measured four different 3D displays.
