Background: The investigation examines the adoption of agricultural matters and innovations by
farmers as presented on radio stations in Kaduna and Kano States.
Objective:The primary objective is to assess the extent of farmers' adoption of these agricultural
matters and innovations as aired on selected AM and FM radio stations in Kaduna and Kano States.
Method: The study employs a quantitative (survey) methodology utilizing a questionnaire to elicit
responses regarding the adoption of agricultural radio programmes in relation to farmers' attitudes
towards farming.
Result: The findings indicate that respondents agree that agricultural radio programmes aid in the
adoption of new agricultural matters and innovations, with a mean value of 4.02, as they pay close
attention while listening to these programmes. Furthermore, respondents confirm that they acquire
more information about new agricultural matters and innovations from the radio, with a mean
value of 3.97. This is supported by respondents who affirm that they frequently listen to
agricultural radio programmes, with a mean value of 3.90.
Conclusion: Consequently, the study concludes that radio serves as a complementary medium for
disseminating agricultural knowledge, particularly in light of the limited number of extension
workers and the increased ratio of extension agents to farmers in Nigeria. The top-down nature of
agricultural program production needs to be reevaluated in order to allow for a two-way flow of
information by implementing a feedback mechanism.
Key Recommendation: The study recommends the maintenance of radio as a means of
disseminating agricultural information to compensate for the shortage of extension agents in
Nigeria.
Unique Contribution: The study suggests the establishment of a feedback opportunity for listener
inquiries, which would facilitate a two-way flow of information and enhance the liveliness and
participatory nature of the program, particularly in the case of follow-up questions.
