Klaus Platzgummer met François Roche in Chakkrawat, a district in Bangkok’s city center. Roche Roche runs there his architecture office ‹new-territories.com› together with Camille Lacandée. Since the foundation of the office in 1993 with Stéphanie Lavaux and Gilles Desevedavy, the studio has changed the name and place several times. In lectures and interviews, Roche avoids the presentation of his face. In lieu of his face he represents himself with the avatar. This specific strategy of representation was the motivation for the talk.

Klaus Platzgummer talked to Martino Stierli, the Philip Johnson Chief Curator of Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The talk was shaped by Stierli's farewell from academia, and his new engagement at the MoMA since March 2015. Focal points of the talk were MoMA's near future, the institution MoMA, and its role in history and theory of architecture. Furthermore Stierli commented on the emerging museum networks and the problems with exhibiting architecture.

The discussion took up his evidently economical perspective on architecture by focusing on the relation between austerity-policies and architectural expression. Stephan Trüby was the Scientific Director of the Venice Architecture Biennale 2014, curated by Rem Koolhaas.

The critical concern of the workshop “Utopia Computer” is the euphoria, expectation and hope inspired by the introduction of computers within architecture in the early digital age. With the advent of the personal computer and the launch of the Internet in the 1990s, utopian ideals found in architectural discourse from the 1960s were revisited and adjusted to the specific characteristics of digital media.
