We're aware that sometimes your projects have very complex modeling objectives and that modeling doesn't always go as smoothly as the hands-on exercises practiced in a classroom. We also appreciate that project schedules can be very dynamic, making it difficult for you to deliver project milestones in a timely way.
We want to transfer our technological know-how to you, so that whatever we've learned or discovered about water management modeling is passed on to you. For example, when we undertake a detailed peer review of your model, we'll also help you build the skills and expertise needed to conduct these reviews on your own.
We consult with researchers, local governments, regulatory agencies, developers, and engineering firms. Our approach is collaborative rather than competitive.
Not sure how to build a model to satisfy your objectives? Uncertain where to start or what data resources are available? Need to figure out how to represent a complicated network or unusual situation in your model? Challenged by stringent regulations or not sure how to demonstrate compliance? These are questions (among many others!) that we've asked ourselves too and we're eager to share our expertise with you.
We often hear modelers discussing the need for consistent modeling approaches, data development methodologies, reporting and deliverables among all project members – whether they are staff from different departments in your organization, consultants, developers, local government or regulatory agencies.
The task of developing specific modeling standards, guidelines and protocols can be daunting. We can make this process go smoothly for you. We're experienced developers of site/context-specific guidelines and protocols ― we've helped a lot of clients in our 30+ years.
Got a sinking feeling that your model is not capable of doing what it needs to do? Long for a push-of-a-button tool that automates a labour-intense process? Have a wish-list tool or feature for EPA SWMM, but don't have time to wait for it to be included in the next official software release?
Not to worry. We can develop and test whatever you have in mind. Even if you don't have your own spreadsheets, macros, scripts, or code ― just describe your idea to us and we'll let you know if it's possible to develop and test within your timeline and budget. We can test custom tools and features using our extensive library of datasets or experimental data from our network of academic researchers.
We solve problems and address unique challenges for model developers every day. And we have years of experience reviewing models created by other organizations. You do excellent work ― let our peer reviews strengthen that confidence, confirming that your models are developed with the appropriate standard of care and in accordance with the latest practices. Sometimes just getting another perspective can greatly improve your models and modeling reports.
The overarching goal of our peer reviews is to transfer knowledge to you ― helping you build the skills needed to conduct detailed model reviews on your own.
Our engineers are veteran trainers ― using practical, real-world applications in their training workshops that are highly relevant to the modeling work you do. But we know that some modeling problems you face can't be solved using generic methodologies and require a creative and inventive approach.
With that in mind, we offer custom workshops tailored to your project specs, including training in traditional stormwater infrastructure analysis and design, emerging technologies, and innovative applications. We teach your team new skills and provide opportunities for creative dialog and collaborative problem-solving ― skills that will extend to any other current and future modeling projects your team tackles. We happily facilitate these discussions throughout the training.
Our mandate is to encourage and promote good modeling practices and to support you whenever you need guidance on water modeling projects. And we're happy to mentor your modeling team through a project if you don't have the time or resources to do so.
Involve us right at the beginning of a project – we'll help you plot a course to achieve objectives and provide training and supervision as necessary. Or involve us in projects that are underway – we'll confirm if things are going as planned, suggest alternative methodologies to improve accuracy or efficiency, and support you as you refine and improve your models.
